Shower has no lip on the floor so its the kind that gets water all over everything that this part of the world seems to love so much. No bugs and a nice big heater to keep the place warm at night. While our room didn't overlook the ocean like others, we were right behind them so the beach was just a minute walk away. There was also a glow worm area right across the street from the hotel! We went and it was amazing! I can't believe it's just there for free and every other place charges to see the glow worms. The room was hard to stay in. But you get what you pay for. The DVD system didn't work so we couldn't watch the DVD we picked out from the office. The bathroom was small with no counter space and the heater in our room wasn't working. I was also bitten by a bunch of mosquitos. I may pay a little extra next time to stay at the new beachfront hotel in town.

We loved our stay here!…read more The grounds itself are so fun, with live animals to check out, access to the beach/water view, picnic areas with BBQs, and lots of greenery. The cabin was lovely for our stay - exactly the accommodations we needed with a kitchenette, teas and coffees, and some incredible shower water pressure. The local recommendations guidebook led us to the Glow Worm Dell and Kharun Thai, two of the highlights of our time in Hokitika. The office receptionist recommended Hokitika Gorge to us at checkout which was a highlight of our trip!
