It was this Bird's branch that my mother would send me out to every week to pick up a cream cake for each of us. My father's choice would ALWAYS be the vanilla cream slice! It was this very store that opened my eyes to a variety of cream cakes. It was only when I moved away from the Derby area, did I realize it was a regional specialty. For many years I would return and devour a huge selection of their cream cakes to make up for the times there has been a drought. My favourites include their cream bun, trifle, vanilla cream slice, cream meringue and apple puff. They also do confectionary, breads and savoury pasties/pies.
