Steve is a professional walleye tournament competitor and has a lifetime of fishing knowledge and experience he shares with his clients to make their fishing trip successful. His boat is a 19-foot Ranger that has every option available to successfully fish any technique required by the conditions. Steve knows where the fish are and what to use. And if the fish aren't biting he always has another method or another spot to try. Steve's entire focus is his clients catching fish and having a fun fishing experience. He makes sure each client's rod is fully rigged and continuously positions the boat to get bait in the right spot. On this day we caught several walleye, some big ones we couldn't keep because they were in the slot (20-27 inches), and enough keepers (15-20 inches) for an excellent fish dinner. They have a kiddie slide as well as diving boards in the deep end. They do have lap swimming available and swimming courses. There are individual summer passes and family summer passes available. There is a food stand on the premises. Once when visiting the pool with children I was sitting for, I witnessed a lifeguard who was on her way out of the center (I assume her shift was over.) jump into the pool fully clothed to save a small child who was struggling in the water. This is a big hangout spot for local families and is very busy on a hot summer day.

Field of Dreams was my birthday gift to myself, and it was worth every mile getting there!…read more We drove nearly six hours from Kansas City to Dyersville specifically so I could finally visit this place. I first saw Field of Dreams in 1989, and the movie has stayed with me ever since. When we arrived, we were asked if we'd consider donating $20 toward the upkeep of the field. I couldn't get the money out of my pocket fast enough. Keeping a place like this available for people to experience is absolutely worth supporting. Seeing the farmhouse, wooden bleachers and baseball diamond surrounded by Iowa corn was almost surreal. The best part is that you're not just standing behind a rope looking at everything. I walked onto the field, through the outfield grass, into the corn and then back out again. I sat in the bleachers with our dog Gus and even got to hold a bat and imagine standing at the plate. For me, there was also a very personal connection. I never got to play catch with my father, which is probably one reason the ending of this movie has always affected me so deeply. Standing on that field brought back emotions I wasn't expecting. For a little while, I wasn't thinking about being 68 years old. I was thinking about being that kid who loved baseball and wondering, "What if?" We unfortunately missed the farmhouse tour by just a few minutes. The next tour was an hour later, and with another three-hour drive to Des Moines ahead of us, we couldn't wait. That's my only regret from the visit, and certainly not the Field of Dreams' fault. There is also a nice visitor area with memorabilia, displays and souvenirs. Baseball and movie fans will find plenty to look at. My advice: don't rush this place. Walk onto the field. Sit in the bleachers. Walk into the corn. Take your pictures, but put the phone away for a few minutes too and just look around. Way out in the middle of Iowa sits a baseball field made famous by a movie more than three decades ago. For some people, it will simply be a cool movie location. For me, it was something much more. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday gift to myself. Absolutely worth the trip.

I watched the movie countless times as a kid when it first came out, and recently introduced my…read more11-year-old son to it. While roadtripping across the United States, I knew I wanted to add this to our list of places to stop. We were not disappointed! It's a lovely drive amongst the cornfields to get to the site. We came on a Tuesday in August and it wasn't crowded at all. Plenty of parking. $20 suggested donation to enter. They provide bats and balls and gloves and anyone can go out on the field for a catch or to bat, or run the bases. Lots of families around playing on the field. They even had a "ghost player" dressed in a 1919 era uniform to pose for pictures. You can take a tour of the farm house for an added price, though we didn't do this part. They have a snack stand next to the field and a full restaurant next to the farm house if you get hungry, both of which serve alcohol. I guess the only downside is how wildly commercialized the whole site has become. A gigantic gift shop, the aforementioned restaurant, and an indoor event space all overshadow the much smaller farm house, and the massive stadium built for MLB's annual game looms over the left field fence. But the magic is still there. The magic of the most perfect baseball movie ever made, transposed into the modern era in the form of families spending time together in a heaven made of sunny Iowa cornfields.

We traveled from Wisconsin for a 4th of July youth baseball tournament at the Dubuque Sports…read moreCenter. The fields are situated at the dead end of a steep, narrow road that leads you to believe this can't be the correct way, right up until it opens up to the facility. There is a large gravel parking lot, but it is laid out very tight making it a bit of a squeeze for everyone to safely get in/out as one set of games concludes and the next begins. There are five fields with all sand infield surfaces. The artificial pitching mounds are rather on the small side. One of the fields is laid out toward a hill and the steep hill is actually part of the outfield. We were on/near fields 1 & 2 all weekend. The bleachers have an aluminum roof over your head for protection from foul balls & as shade from the sun. Reasonably priced concessions and a pretty decent selection of offerings available for purchase. The grounds state "no carry ins" which is par for the course. During our two days the weather was in the high 80's with the humidity even worse. On day one several parents went back and forth to cars for bottles of water for our players and ourselves. The staff monitoring the gate throughout the day did not say a thing about this and for safety in super humid conditions it made sense you would allow your guests to carry in water. On day 2 the person monitoring the gate said "no carry ins" per the owner. There was no free water source available (that I saw at least) inside the park aside for buying it from the concession stand. I get as a business your trying to make money, but c'mon man how about using a little common sense with parents bringing in just water. For as much as I otherwise enjoyed the facility, the handling of the gate on morning two was a major turn off. (Side review: parents if traveling here for a tournament, consider staying at the nearby Best Western. They have a large pool & rec area for parents to gather. They also offer a solid complimentary breakfast to kick start the day.)

In 2016 my kids played fall baseball down there and none of the batting cages where working. This past summer my kids where in tournaments there and they only had 1 batting cage out of 3 working so if you wanted batting practice you would have to wait in a long line. The one year my kids played fall ball down there with their baseball teams they never stuck with the schedule that was made out. The schedule would change between 2-3 times each week and one time they tried changing everyone's schedule the morning of games. Some of us that where there for 8:00 games where told they wanted us to wait until noon for our 1st game. Fields 1-3 have good seating but if your kids are playing on fields 4 or 5 the seating sucks.

We did get lost trying to find the nature center which didn't seem connected to the part of the park we first arrived in...it seems there are two separate entrances? Fortunately we were near the cool castle-like tower, the Julien Dubuque Monument, which offers stunning panoramic views of the Mississippi and of the city of Dubuque. Definitely would like to come back for more hiking here!
