This pub has attracted our attention many times as we drive past in our drive to London (a little under 2 hours South of here). Tonight, on our way driving home from Christmas Tree shopping(we need a 12 foot tree!) we decided to give it a try.
The place is clean, inviting with very friendly and prompt staff. We were seated (it was early!) in an almost empty dining room which was slowly filling as we left (6-6:30 on a Saturday). My wife enjoyed an old Mout cider while had a nice glass of Merlot. BTW there is a separate bar area for non-diners.
I had a special (lamb stew with dumplings - good old English comfort food!) and Mrs G had a chicken curry.
The food was definitely above average - not quite as good as good as we had hoped but a solid 4 stars! read more
