Run, don't even walk away from them. You will regret ever signing up with them. They billed us monthly for web hosting and we could not restore our website after it went 'under repairs'. We called several times to be told that everything was in working order and there was nothing they could do. We just went without a website..... We found out when we were severing our ties with Birch that they had lost the company (their vendor) that did their web hosting. I had spoken with that company and they were the ones that told me the reason that we had no capability to use what we had been charged for for 2+ years. THE WORST. I am saving approximately $400.00 a month after finally getting out of our contract. We are a small company. Some of the staff was good, a LOT of them are rude. It's the people behind the scenes (level 2) that were nice, and helpful. After giving the proper notice (90 days) prior to our termination day, they billed us for another month of service and even were so nice as to turn us into collections FOR SERVICES WE NEVER RECEIVED. The explanation was that there is work on their end that has to be done, even if they are not providing service. My conversation after waiting 45 minutes on hold: ME: My phone line and internet isn't working. I need help. Birch: We are three weeks out with technicians. If we find it's your fault it doesn't work, we charge $300 an hour for diagnoses. ME; I need help now. My business is down. Birch: We can sell you another line with a 75 year contract extension. ME: My line and internet are fine I just need help. Birch: Sir, anything else I can do for you? I wanted to remind you your bill is due next week. Like another reviewer here, I'd rather give negative stars as I've nothing positive to say about Birch. I am a business communications consultant in business for over 30 years and have worked with countless carriers and providers. Birch acquired an important security service client of mine and its 20 toll free numbers from a purchase of another carrier/provider. The TFNs all terminate at alarm monitoring equipment; all alarms place average 2 10ths of a minute test calls daily; last count was over 196,000 calls per day. Failure to connect with the monitoring station generates alarms at the station and require placement of repair tickets at Birch by my client. The need for repairs has been constant and a waste of hours of time. One day I called Birch Customer Service numerous times only to get ring no answer. Later the same day when I finally got through I was told all C/S agents had escaped to the basement during a tornado warning. Birch is a communications company and has NO backup or redundancy built in to ensure proper and consistent service to its users! Birch's bill has been incorrect from the time of take over and its C/S refused to fix it charging $280 a month in fees alone including for numerous fixed services not provided and $5 per TFN per month. We finally found another carrier/provider specializing in TFNs terminating at alarm monitoring stations. Typically in the process of switching the TFNs includes a 30 day window during which the new provider can seize possession once all its programming is completed and a port time and date are set. Birch released the TFNs and immediately pulled the plug disconnecting all the TFNs up front causing all the TFNs to go down. This is unethical at best. I own a business that depends on the phones and internet, and Yelp reviews. As a business owner, I do my best to not leave a negative review, but this is completely warranted. There are no words to describe the level of frustration that I have felt with Birch since we began our relationship. It gets particularly dicey when we have an outage. The reps at Birch had such little knowledge of what was going on that I became the project manager and the go between for Birch and AT&T. I provided Birch with updates that they did not have, I connected them with Supervisors at AT&T to get the job done. It was almost surreal. Every time I called in I had to retell my story to Tier 1 sometimes they would transfer me to Tier 2, sometimes not. It was an hour call each time. I'm well into an hour of another call as I write this review. Birch had no idea what was happening. I was even told by a Birch rep that it would be easier for me to actually walk the ticket numbers for the repair over to the AT&T lineman because it just wouldn't get done quickly through Birch. I was told by a Birch rep that AT&T doesn't work on Saturdays so I would be down until Monday. NOT TRUE. I called AT&T and connected with a supervisor who said they would be out to complete the repair. Thank you AT&T. To top it off, I was also sold 10MB uploads and 10MB downloads. Today after our service came back up AFTER 4 DAYS I figured I would do a speed test. Guess what? 5MB uploads and 5 MB downloads. I called and opened another ticket, and the tech told me "well you're not set up for 10, only 6, I have to open another ticket to get you 10MB." What? If I hadn't called and said "I'm not getting the right speed, would they have ever looked into it?" I am still waiting on hold for another "supervisor" to help. It's been ONE HOUR AND FORTY FIVE MINUTES!!!!!! AAAAAARRRRRRrrrggh! read more

My clients are staying in the same building and changing the phone company. The winning carrier has submitted our port request over and over and over again. Birch Communications asked us to stay and offered a $200 discount. The service does not work and they keep telling us there is nothing wrong with the equipment. Birch Communications keeps rejecting the port to the winning carrier and tell them they need a CSR from CBeyond who they bought so CBeyond does not exist anymore. They tell us that the winning carrier didn't submit the port and in the same breath say it was submitted incorrectly. Did they not get it or was it incorrect? They said a PON will be generated when it is submitted correctly. Today we got the PON and a rejection. This is costing my client valuable time and resources to keep this going not to mention paying 2 phone bills and the cost of 2 internet accounts. The bill with Birch is current and just paid them another $600 to keep the account active. So they have now paid them $1200 last and this month. This is Fraud !! read more

Our business service was transferred to Birch from CBeyond and while we haven't had any major problems with internet service (yet), every single time I try to call customer service, they try to transfer me to a different department and they leave me on hold indefinitely. I'm not sure what the people there do other than transfer people to a hold that leads nowhere. I want to cancel service now but I imagine that's not going to be easy if I can't talk to anyone! Slow internet. Constantly cuts off. Tech support is slow, takes at least half a day to get your business back up and running on internet and phones. For any small business, this takes a HUGE TOLL. Cancelled their service and oh guess what? They don't do shit. Equipment and everything? Pry it off yourself and you have to mail it back on your own dime. They don't do anything for you. Even cancelling their service was ridiculous. You have to jump through so many hoops just to make sure your service is cancelled or they just keep billing you and say it's your fault. read more

Worst of the worst for ISP's mainly because they are not an ISP. they are a ATT reseller that pretends to be an ISP. if anything goes wrong they take a week to fix what an ISP takes an hour. all they do is hang up with you and send an email to ATT. the simplest problem turns into a 6 hour process. A situation where a provider needs to come on site with take a month to fix. That means you can have your internet down for a month. I have seen that at multiple locations. I am in IT and we pick up business from customers who can't get Birch to fix their stuff to such a degree they hire an IT company to deal with them. and I do, by cancelling their service at every point possible. ***Important note***** Birch with almost always auto renew your contract upon expiration. if you are seeing this, you need to give them notice now, effective whenever your contract expires, then you can order new internet when it gets to 20-30 days out. read more

Absolutely the worst. Our phone service with them stopped, and I contacted them to get it resolved. I got no response from them, so eventually had to get phone service from somewhere else. Weeks later, I heard back from them, but by then it was too late - we had already suffered for weeks with no phones. They keep calling our business to sell us phone service. I spoke with one person who put me through to her supervisor who told me to do some research and check out their BBB page. I did. Their rating is high, but ALL of their reviews are negative. So I determined they won't be getting my business. Someone else called and I told him exactly this, he then demanded that I read him the negative reviews. He was belligerent with me and I asked to be taken off their list. This morning they called again, as soon as she said "Birch" I (politely) said "let me stop you, based on reviews I've decided to not go with your company. I have asked to be taken off your list, please don't call me again" to which she responded "OK, I'll call you tomorrow!" in an angry way (tomorrow I will just mute her call and let her talk as long as she'd like). I called Birch directly after this experience, I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1 because the lady I spoke with, Pat, from the Macon office was SO NICE and sounded genuinely irritated that I had been treated so poorly. BEWARE!!!! Under the impression she was dealing with AT&T, my secretary signed up with Birch to "reduce" our telephone charges. I received their bill after one week of using their service and told her to cancel Birch and restore the service with AT&T that Birch unilaterally cancelled only to receive a bill from Birch for $1700 for contract cancellation fees. That's right, one week $1700. My telephone bill never exceeds $300/month in my busiest season. I am in the process of disputing this with Birch and don't know the outcome yet but I suspect that they will determine that I owe the $1700. After reading the reviews on Yelp I decided to post this comment and will update as events progress. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. THE SERVICE IS OVER PRICED, UNDER PERFORMING, AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NON-EXISTANT. I attempted to cancel my service with Birch/Cbeyond Communication. I informed them, in writing, within 90 days of the end of my contract. I was told by the representative at Birch that once the contract ended, that our account would revert to month to month. It took our new telecom vendor MONTHS to successfully port out all of our numbers. Birch was incredibly difficult to deal with when trying to retain the phone numbers for our business. They repeatedly denied almost every port request with no assistance in reasoning, and when I called they said they didn't even show a port request in the system. After over multiple months of back and forth, I was able to finally port out all of my numbers. I finally was able to completely disconnect after 5 months of nonsense. Now, over a month after my disconnect request, they tried to charge me $4500 in early disconnect fees. Stating that the 30 day notice, and month to month contract, expired after 90 days. Something EVERY SINGLE PERSON AT BIRCH FAILED to inform me of when attempting to disconnect. I was specifically told on multiple occasions that I would NOT be charged a disconnect fee and that our balance would be pro-rated to the date of the final disconnect. I have yet to see an adjustment to the pro-rated date, and they charges me double disconnect fees. THIS COMPANY WILL LIE TO YOUR FACE, WILL NOT HONOR THE PROMISES OF THEIR EMPLOYEES. read more

These people may offer you good prices, however beware of their horrendous, ineffective and rude customer service. I made the mistake of signing up for 3 years of service through them. What a big mistake that was. I would have rather pay an extra couple of hundreds bucks a month and save me countless customer support and tech support calls, billing disputes, etc. If you are still thinking about signing up with them, call their 800 support line. They sign you to a contract that is auto-renewed. They do not contact you by phone or email to tell you your service is about to be auto-renewed. If you are a paperless customer it is not apparent in the portal that you are out to be auto-renewed. My building sold and I moved out of state and they still would not allow me out of my contract without paying an early termination fee. Initially, the early termination fee was $580.00 dollars. After months of arguing back and forth with them, they finally reduced it to $81.00 dollars. Don't do business with these crooks.There are better companies out there. read more

Worst telecommunications company ever! Have regular fax and telephone account with them for my business, then decided to add wireless internet. I asked the rep if I decided to cancel the wireless service later down the road , if that was alright, the rep said it is fine to cancel, it would not be a problem. So 6 months I decide I no longer needed the wireless service. They canceled the service but continued to bill me. I called to ask why? The rep said we had added that wireless service to your current account as a package deal, so because it was added as a package deal you are continued to be charge even though it is cancelled. Does this make sense? You are told you can cancel at anytime but continued to be charged? I have 2 more years remaining on my contract, I plan to cancel and go with ATT or perhaps Comcast. This company bought Cbeyond who was the BIGGEST NIGHTMARE to deal with. First off their pricing is THE BIGGEST RIP OFF AROUND!!! 500 bucks a month for internet speed comparable to dial up. Half the time our service was down and sometimes for days if not almost a week. The sales reps will drive you nuts and once they get your business good luck ever getting them to service your account.This God awful company cost me tens of thousands of dollars in lost business being that we are an internet company and all of our business is either over the phone or internet. So after years of nonstop problems with them that they were unable to resolve they got so sick of dealing with us they let us out of our contract and were going to give us a full credit once we threatened them and filed a complaint with the FCC. OK so that was back in 2010 and then Birch Communications bought them in 2014 and ever since that took place I started getting NONSTOP calls saying I owed them 700 bucks from 2010. WOW I thought I was done with this nightmare company but evidently BIRCH is just as BAD. So now everyday since April I have a collection company calling me about this 700 debt that Cbeyond was supposed to credit us back for their terrible service and all the trouble we went threw with them. I also know someone who used to work for them and she had nothing but horrible things to say about them. Evidently the founder of the company is the biggest scumbag there is. BTW we also had a security breach where $4000 in long distance calls were billed to us by an insecure line. Birch finally credited that back after 8 months of investigation. So glad we left. We were unhappy with every single service we were "provided" by this company. Our mobile service was particularly bad so we decided to change carriers last November. We also wanted to move our phone/Internet but needed to wait until March to avoid a huge early termination fee. I was aware we had a bundled Internet, phone, and mobile contract with some discounts so before making any changes, I called in to inquire as to whether or not we would lose any discounts if we moved our mobile services, as I knew we wouldn't be able to get a different phone/internet provider until March. During that phone call last November I was told that I would not lose any of my discounts. I actually was really concerned about this, and I posed the question in several ways and was told expressly that we would not lose any discounts. Our move to the new mobile phone provider was not without hiccups and they continued to bill is for mobile services despite the fact that we were with another company. I called and made a billing dispute over the continued cell phone charges. They took over 45 days to respond and then when they did respond it was just to tell me that it didn't matter that they continued billing us for mobile, because they had also been giving us a discount that we would not be eligible for if we didn't use their mobile service. Their claim was if they took off the charges for mobile services they would also have to remove the discount and we would end up owing them more!! Here is my huge problem with this. I called and was specifically told I would not be losing any discounts. However the lady in the billing dispute department claims there is a note that in November when I called I was informed by someone named Victoria that I would be losing the discount. This is a full-out lie. I was told exactly the opposite. Now that we are not under a contract with them, we are trying to get away from their $500 crappy 1.5 Mbps and are getting jerked around even more. Worst customer service. Dishonest employees who lie. I highly recommend recording conversations because I have extreme cause to doubt the integrity of any employee based on my experiences. read more

The company is liars! They called up my business and introduced themselves as Verizon,the company I currently have. So they swore they are just modifying services,but then Verizon said that I have another provider and charged me early termination fee, whike the name of the provider was unknown. This company slipped the owner into an auto renewing contract without it being disclosed. Then in July of 2016 we called and added a few fax lines. During this conversation we asked if there was any type of contract or if we would be extending any type of contract. We were told no to both implementing to our understanding that we were just adding a few lines for fax machines and that we are under no contract. 2017 had numerous phone issues. We actually stopped using birch around early december and held on to it as a back up until our new service was up and running. Call to cancel a few days ago and they inform me that we are under an annual auto renewing contract that will renew on 1/12/18 so we do not have 30 days to request a cancellation and will be charged over $2000 for early cancellation. I requested a copy of the contract to be emailed to me, this was never received. I call again today to get an update and again try to cancel service and am told that there was a miscommunication and our contract ends on 7/26/2019 so we actually will owe them $4,400 to cancel. I talked to 4 different people and 2 supervisors (Courtney and Susan). Explained that I understand business is business if they want us to pay for 30 days of service that would be fine but we have been with them for over 6 years and should not be in any type of contract as it was told to us in 2016 that we weren't. Apparently when we added the phone line in 2016 they added on a 3 year extension to our contract and renewed it as well as continued the annual auto renewal that we were never aware of. I Called a third time today and just asked to cancel service but they refuse to turn it off until I sign an agreement stating that I agree to pay the $4,400 that they state we will owe for turning off a phone bill. I will be mailing them a certified letter to stop services but I will not be signing another document from their office as they decide to slip things in and will lie to your face about it. Then as they stumble over their own dates and nobody knows what is going on the only thing they can say is sorry we messed up but this is on you. Zero ounce of human decency.
