I have been using McMurtry Disposal services for a few years now, in Madison Tennessee area, and I…read morejust want to take a minute to tell anyone who wonders about using their service that it will be the best 30.00 a month you'll ever spend. For $7.50 a week (that's basically the cost of one Starbucks coffee a week, if I was one to pay $5-6.00 plus tax for a cup of coffee... lol) but for that modest fee, they pull into my driveway right on time every single week and they quickly empty the trash and back on out. If I'm outside and we see each other, they always say hi. The workers are such nice pleasant hardworking people. Despite my trash cans often being a regular horror show mess (usually due to some tenant who didn't use trash bags when they emptied garbage out of their cars, which is an ongoing hassle due to tenants regularly moving in & out & me having to try to train yet another grown man not to throw full cups of cold drinks on top of garbage in my garbage cans because I don't enjoy having to wash them out when they do that......ugh...) I no longer have to stress taking my garbage off so this has been, as I said the best $30.00 a month I've ever spent. Anyway, I digress, McMurtry Disposal has even picked up a bag or two by my back door when I have absentmindedly forgotten to take them out to the cans in time, they've done that without me asking. So this company does an excellent, very reliable job for me week after week through snow, rain and my awful trash, at a very reasonable rate (I used to have to take my trash off myself and it was such a hassle, a mess and I dreaded it every time so I really appreciate the job they do for me. Thanks Mrs. K Hussey.

It's hard to recycle ... period. There's so many rules to follow, and they differ based on what…read morecity and/or county you're in. Not to mention, if you live in an apartment, you most likely don't have access to a recycle bin that you can roll out to the curb every two weeks. However, spaces like the East Convenience Center are working hard to make recycling easier. After the holidays, I had a mountain of cardboard, along with various other recyclables (plastic, metal, glass ... all of the things). This center is free to use once per day for Davidson County residents - you just pull up during operating hours and hand over your ID to prove your residency. The folks at the booth are friendly as can be, and they've been happy to answer any questions I had, especially on my first visit. I have yet to encounter a long wait to drop off my materials, but I've heard Saturdays can get a little busy. Pro tip - pre-sort your recyclables beforehand to keep your visit quick. Glass, plastic, metal, and paper (excluding cardboard) are all located in easy-to-access bins. If you pull further into the center, there's a separate section for cardboard. The East Convenience Center does allow other types of waste disposal ... you'll want to reference their website for specifics (and it might have a cost associated with it, depending on what it is you're dumping). I'm thankful to have this easy-to-use recycling center so close to my home ... and can't wait to see the city continue to expand and improve spaces like this.
