I have been staying at Galusha's Cottages for over 20 years and absolutely love every minute of it…read more I count the minutes each year before I can go back. Yes, the cabins are bare bones, and yes, you have to bring your own sheets and supplies, but, hey, that's the way mountain escapes always used to be. This is a great old-fashioned experience - away from the intrusion of TV, Wifi and cell phones. I wouldn't trade that solitude and disconnecting for anything. Lewey Lake is beautiful, peaceful and quiet. No speed boats, just canoes, kayaks, lots of birds and clear skies. The view of the Milky Way is something you don't find in too many places on the East Coast anymore.

I spent my first weekend at the cottages 9/20 to 9/22. For people looking for a tranquil setting…read morewithout power boat traffic this is a great stop. Lewey lake is just south of Indian Lake. The cottages are reasonably priced. If you are looking for a place glamp or want all the comforts of home than you might want to look elsewhere. If you want good accommodations and the ability to get away from the internet then this is for you. The cabins are rustic. They have electricity and water and are clean. You will have do some cleaning when you depart but that keeps the prices reasonable and isn't too much to ask. The lake has an abundance of wildlife. Owls, loons, beavers, moose, deer, and turkey are just some of the things you can see. The fishing was okay. There is the opportunity to catch bass and other fish. Be prepared to fish shallow water and plan on fishing vegetation. The kayaking and canoeing is great. You feel like you have the whole place to yourself. If you want a quiet getaway away from the hustle and bustle this is a place worth the trip.

Todd was very accommodating to us when we had to switch dates for our vacation. He was also great with communication, giving us detailed welcoming and departing emails stocked with all sorts of info. There was one small glitch that Todd saw to in a very timely manor. The cabin had a kitchenette that had everything we needed for our week stay. Two separate bathrooms (with abundant hot water) were very nice to have and would come in handy for two couples or a family with kids. The Wi-Fi was fantastic - no issues. TV with Roku was nice though we used it just once. We made use of the fire pit, grill and picnic table almost every day. Corn hole and a horseshoe pit were also used. We also brought croquet and bocci sets that we used as there was ample space to play. $10 for firewood that could be used for 3 separate fires was a decent deal. It's a great location between Saranac and Placid. The only suggestion I would have might be to put together a binder with suggestions of local hikes, water holes, falls to see/swim in, places to eat, etc. Here are a couple to consider: Jay Covered Bridge (swim, 30 min drive), https://www.whitefaceregion.com/story/2015/08/jay-rapids-adirondacks-best-kept-secret, Peninsula nature trails (10 min) easy trails with access to swimming in Lake Placid https://www.lakeplacid.com/hiking/peninsula-nature-trails , Donnollys ice cream 20 min, mom and pop ice cream place with just one swirled flavor that rotates daily. It's the creamiest that I have ever tasted. The same guy has been running the place for nearly 60 yrs. https://www.facebook.com/people/Donnellys-Ice-Cream/100064413290587/?ref=page_internal. There are tons of places to checkout. Make sure to do some homework and make a list before you arrive,
