When Cookie Monster eats something, he makes a very distinct, loud munching "noise", often interpreted as "OMM-nom-nom-nom..." & says "Me want cookie!" Instead of "I want a cookie". After winning a game show contest, Cookie Monster comically choose 1 cookie over an array of luxurious much more valuable and better prizes.
