I've been to Billy B's about 3 different times now when I stop through to visit my mom. The food is always delicious. You'd pass it right by if you don't know the area. They have ample friendly staff members available. The place is always clean and relaxed. That makes a good environment for woofing down some loaded baked potato, seafood gumbo, catfish, (what we had), or whatever they are offering. We were a little sad we didn't get the crawfish étouffée that's usually on the menu, but what we did have made us very happy and put a smile on our bellies I'm sure. Haha. Oooooh this was some good. I was traveling from Shreveport south and as I was getting close to Mansfield, I was hungry as it was 1:00pm. That McDs sausage biscuit at 6:30 was long gone. I did a quick Yelp search of restaurants in the area and Billy B's Cajun Grill was at the top of the list so that's where I headed, and since it on the side of 171, easy to get to. Go in, get me a half n half tea. Menu had a lot of options non- Cajun - burgers, Tex-Mex, steaks, CFS-, but if Cajun is in your name, well that narrows it down for me. What, no shrimp n grits on the menu? So I went with the smothered catfish - blackened on a bed of dirty rice and smothered in crawfish étouffée. OMG this was so good. So good in fact that I had to get an extra 2 hush puppies to soak up all that goodness. The waitress so nice to oblige that last minute request. Never eat here again. I'm Muslim I asked if the brisket potatoe had any pork they said no I was eating it and I was tasting bacon bites. On top of that woke up to look at my account they charged me $9,300 dollars for my meal. Not sure what they got going on. I am a truck driver my rent due, bills can't get paid that automatically withdraw from account and kids need necessities for upcoming month. Overall experience trash. Unbelievable! My coworker and I enjoyed a lunch there on a Friday & this will be about that single experience. I had the jambalaya with a side of loaded mashed potatoes. The sides are separate and, for me, it was a mistake to order one because the entree portion is huge and the sides are as well. It was an extra $4 for the side ($2.45 if NOT loaded) but both together were well past my ability to eat them at one sitting. The jambalaya was well above average, the single disappointing aspect being the chicken was on the dry/tough side. Not egregiously so, but noticeably. My coworker had the smothered catfish, blackened with an etouffé topping however he noted it really wasn't etouffé, more a GOOD sauce. He liked it very much. Most of the menu offerings are Louisiana staples like what we had, plus there's gumbo, red beans & rice, various other fish options, and the sides are very good. And the service was very friendly, prompt and attentive. So what can I really say about it? It's on the pricey side. My jambalaya was a $10.99 special but with the side @$19. My coworker's bill came to $15. The portions were generous and Mansfield doesn't have ANY other restaurants that come up to the quality except perhaps a couple of TexMex restaurants. I'm sure we'll come back on our days in Mansfield but I may opt for a vegetable plate with a couple of the sides. They'd be very good, filling, and more economical. read more

No matter that it was busy we received quick and courteous service. Had the catfish plate. It's was so hot we broke the fish filets in half to cool them. Loads of French fries. The dinner also came with hush puppies and great coke slaw. All this and it was reasonably priced. I would highly recommend this place. read more

We stopped for lunch while passing through Mansfield,Louisiana and really enjoyed our meals. It's a very nice looking building inside and outside with friendly staff. We wanted something light, so we both ordered salads, but you can see from the pictures that they really piled on the fried crawfish and grilled shrimp. We could have shared this meal! After sitting at the outside table for a few minutes I realize it's varnish is coming off on my clothes and onto my arms. We got up from the table and was asked to return because the other table we went to isn't a dining table. With all this trouble then y'all was out of oysters too. Maybe my expectations were too high? I'm working in the area and I'm from Texas. I guess I expected ALL Cajun food to be amazing in Louisiana. Billy B's is just ok if you're looking for a Cajun fix. Definitely not anywhere close to what I've had in other parts of LA. It's also kind of pricey. I guess I should have known when the chips and salsa are 4.99. Yes, really! The salsa was bland and the chips were nothing special. The fact that they serve it on an actual plate probably accounts for the price tag. Very disappointing. The jambalaya I ordered was also very bland and nothing to write home about. The cup of red beans and rice (4.99) had so little rice that I could actually count the grains and it was not that great tasting either. They get a star for the fact that the staff is nice and helpful and the tea was good. They also gave me a free sample of the gumbo when I asked (should've got the gumbo). In summary, the food is just ok but it's a little too pricey. Was this just an off day? Not worth a return trip unless I'm really craving Cajun and there's nothing else. read more

I've driven by this randomly-located restaurant a zillion times and it's always busy so I really wanted to try it. Had lunch on a Monday and it was pretty full. I do NOT understand why it's so crowded (unless there are just absolutely no other options!). I had a crawfish po'boy (good, but nothing special). It had a sprinkle of shredded iceberg lettuce and a single tomato slice (no pickles or onions) and the bread was fine. HOWEVER, everything else my husband and I had was awful. His hamburger steak, broccoli and cauliflower were frozen (with canned nacho cheese on top), and the green beans and gravy canned. My onion rings were inedible- frozen, undercooked and rubbery. The po'boy and friendly service saved this rating, but only barely. Keep driving!!! read more

Any restaurant north of Bunkie with "Cajun" in its name is usually looked upon with skepticism by me and mine. Not anymore! Billy B's had amazing fish (mouth melting and hot), gator bites were served hot and the gumbo was delicious. it was a meeting place halfway between my daughters' home and mine, and will be the official meeting place from now on. Hands down, Billy B's is my favorite place in Mansfield to eat. I just love the oysters on the half shell with a cold draft beer. The service and atmosphere is great.
