THIS IS A DISREPUTABLE COMPANY - STEER CLEAR!
Disregard those 5 stars posted today.
The response provided by Bill's Tax Service, mostly likely written by Bill Scheid's daughter Tammy DeWitt* who is a partner in the company but was not involved in any conversations in this matter, is inaccurate. The IRS audit on the IRS-assigned date, revealed that "Enrolled Agent (EA)", Bill Scheid, caused three major errors on my 2020 federal income tax return (the errors carried over to 2021 and are/were apparent before that). The IRS-assigned audit date was considerably after Bill's early August dental work was completed. When we briefly spoke on the phone the day before the audit on August 31, 2022, he sounded just fine and should have been wiling to attend the audit meeting with me. He declined. Instead Bill instructed me to attend the two-hour audit meeting alone and to "TAKE NOTES". I am not a tax professional. Bill knows that I am unable to discuss or explain income tax returns, deductions, HIS entries onto my return, and tax law with a seasoned, professional IRS examiner. In conversation, Bill intentionally diminished me and my stress about the entire ordeal; he didn't give a damn. Bill offered no assistance, he did not suggest a rescheduled audit meeting date that better suited him, and he did not instruct either of his two partners to attend the audit meeting with me with a power of attorney.
Incidentally, Bill's Tax Service was not open at all on September 5, 2022 or any date reasonably after that. It took weeks. I went to the office location and spoke with contractors there who told me they were preparing the office for "some tax lawyers".
Now that Bill's errors are fully documented and H&R Block is correcting them, Bill and Tammy tell me that they have no responsibility in this matter. They say I signed a document in 2020 that waives my right to hold Bill responsible for his numerous errors on my tax return and/or the costs I have incurred in correcting all of them. I asked Tammy for a copy of that document, but although she has had sufficient time she has not responded to my request. The IRS complaint forms (Form 14157) I am preparing and will file next week require me to provide specific information about Bill's Tax Service that I do not have. Tammy has expressly refused to provide this information. It looks bad when I write onto the IRS form that "the EA refuses to provide the requested information."
Here is my advice to you: Unless you have a very easy federal income tax return or are an income tax expert, stay away from Bill's Tax Service and his two partners/daughters. After I gave them twelve years of my business, they have behaved in this instance most disrespectfully and dishonorably. When Bill retires (which will probably be very soon) and his two daughters take over, I predict things there will only get much worse.
* I have been a client at Bill's Tax Service for twelve years. When Bill was unavailable to prepare my return in 2018, Tammy did this work. She overcharged me $150.00, I paid more for her less qualified work in 2018 than I have ever paid in any other tax year. When I informed Bill that Tammy had overcharged me, Bill refused to discuss it with me. I trusted Bill at that time and continued with his company. Although I advocated for Bill during my conversations with the IRS auditor, I was completely wrong in doing so. Now I am very, very sorry and "in trouble" with the IRS due to the actions and inactions of Bill's Tax Service, namely Bill and Tammy. read more
