Even though most things are closed or on hiatus until next year, Montana Fair still is a fun place…read moreto take the kids so they can burn off the excess energy. The typical food places are there, serving the usual not-so-healthy fare, but there are also some with lighter choices. On a hot day in the sun, the beer tent gives some welcome relief. The hall is open, but most booths are empty save for displays promoting next years fair. With a couple of exceptions, most vendors who are in person are hawking cleaners, mattresses, and the like. On the other hand, there is a bingo game going on in the open space in the next room. So, something for everyone here. There is live music from time to time in the courtyard area. The adults who aren't playing bingo can relax while the kids are doing their thing. It's a very laid back fair this year. For a $5 entry fee, this escape can't be topped as a way to get outside, give the kids something to do (rides cost extra) and just enjoy being out. Masks are required for entry this year, but with fewer people making for easier social distancing, the masks didn't stay on long once people got inside the fair grounds.

Plenty of seating for spectators. Pleasant staff. $5 entry for skaters on weekdays, $6 weekends. Rent classic roller skates ($2) or modern inline skates ($5). They have open skate and offer occasional group games on the rink which the kids seemed to enjoy; winners get candy. Everything from the music, to the skate rentals, to the staff on the rink seemed well organized. They also have a small area devoted to arcade games. Only critiques are their signage is super small and not likely to generate drive-by traffic- you have to know where you're going to find it. Also, would be nice if they had a small section of club chairs or just more comfortable seating for spectators to relax instead of being relegated to picnic tables and hard chairs. We will definitely be back. My son had a blast!

Lots of great spots to see below to town and out to the mountains. Some shaded areas too. Dogs on leashes are permitted. I did not see any restrooms, or picnic tables. They call it a Park, and I suppose with a couple of picnic tables in the shelter and the "necessary" building, it is a park, but not one that encourages long-term lounging. There's something about this spot that makes you want to walk, or run, or meander. Here, on top of the rimrocks, either direction, there's an impressive view of the City continuing all the way over to the Beartooth Mountains. It's a park that's also the trailhead for further exploration. Along the route there is an occasional bench upon which to sit and look at the sunset, or the sunrise, or the clouds moving over the mountains. The path is wide enough to accommodate walkers, joggers, and bikers in both directions. It's ADA accessible. But, come back to the Park to take a break, or have that picnic, or just stand around and chat with friends. You can't lose with the view.
