I mustered the courage to hook the frozen squid but once the fish came up, I'd be damned if my hands went anywhere near it. Then there came Steve. My new fishing buddy took me out to this pier just down the street from my house. Like adventurous (and trespassing) teens, we hopped the dumpster and jumped over the fence. Only 10 yards away, an obvious entrance to the apartment building welcomed everyone else without the wits to illegally enter. Nevertheless, there we were on the short hike to the pier on the bay. The scene was quiet and serene with only the rapping of the tide against the low seawall. As dusk turned to night, Steve and I settled in as the only two fisherpeople casting our hooks to sea. Steve's friend claimed to catching a 20 pound tarpon only weeks earlier. For us, the only fish looking to sample bait happened to be baby snapper and grunts. Every catch went back to the water and as I huddled close to my hoodie and took in the low glow from the pier lights, I loved every second of my little adventure with Steve and thought I could be anywhere but 5 minutes from my house.

Yes, there were 33 of us fishing on this boat and 3 crew. So you don't get individual attention, but for our trip, they did their best to get to everyone as quickly as they could. The captain moved the ship a number of times to try and find some fish. I think we caught about 6 or 7 fish total, but it wasn't due to lack of trying. This was a nice trip and a good value, I think, but it IS a fishing boat and not a deluxe high-dollar white glove yacht!

NONE of us caught anything... wasted money... got ripped off for "live bait" some boats go out of their way to make sure you get your moneys worth... not this one... they just put it in their pocket. Pay a little more money and go on a better boat for fishing... you get what you pay for.

The boats are pretty big, they seem to be able to hold about 30 persons on the fishing level. There's an upper deck for a smaller fee, for people who do not want to fish, but go along for the ride. You're welcome to keep whatever you catch, depending the size of course. Once we cough a nurse shark, we were not able to keep it, but it sure had eveyone taking onboard! You're also allowed to bring your meals and drinks on board. It's definitely a party if you make friends with your neighbors and enjoy the tour. Cool learning experience too. They showed us a sucker fish as it strapped to the boat walls before setting her free. We went on a Friday at 7:30pm. The boat wasn't too packed and we claimed the front. Between 3 of us, we took home 4 fish. We caught a bunch more that were tossed back in the water -- baby sharks, and many fish that weren't of proper size. Great adventure even if you don't catch any fish. A very peaceful view of the skyline looking east and we caught moonrise to the west. Nice ocean breeze! After returning, they scaled and gutted the fishies for some fun cooking ahead.
