I love the "Old days, never changed a thing" feel to it…read more Don't get fooled by the not so updated interior style (more about that below) they were some of the first ones who were following very strict organic rules. They were really early part of this movement, back early when it wasn't a movement yet and people wanting organic food were considered weird outsiders. They are part of Goût mieux (natural ingredients, seasonal, regional, organic, animal and eco friendly). Due to that, the menu might seem limited but it offers everything you need, be it meat, vegetarian or vegan. I loved the mussles which were a seasonal special, and the crispy chicken (breadcrumbed and fried lil scallops) were delicious, too. Considering this is in the heart of Zurich's old town and they use high quality ingredients the food is very reasonable priced. You can also play billiard or cards, it has a very relaxed and friendly vibe. I also appreciate the noise level. Sometimes when a restaurant is fully booked you end up screaming or hardly talking with each other but not here. I truly believe they haven't changed much during the past 30 years concerning the interiors. In times where it seems traveling becomes slowly obsolete because you find the very same cafes and restaurants in all trendy cities (that so urban, classy yet relaxed oh its so NYC kind of style) this restaurant is a city treasure. Much of this true old style restaurants are disappearing or already have disappeared a long time ago just to give place to new restaurants which try to be nostalgic and from the good old days. This place is a 100% real. The waiting staff was very friendly.

Restaurant Schlauch is the kind of down-to-earth place you (at least I) immediately feel "at home"…read more With more than 70 years of restaurant history, it seems to be one of the most traditional places in Zurich. Named after an early affiliation with the Zurich fire fighters, the German word "Schlauch" translates into hose. The food is very good, with a focus on organically and locally produced ingredients. The menu, and the whole place in general, is more comparable to a "Bierhalle" than to a classy Restaurant. However, the atmosphere (e.g. the kind of local people coming here) is very distinct from Bierhalle - most notably it is much quieter and more cozy. Next to the usual menu card, there are three daily full menus, including soup and salad. Check out their homepage for details. There is also the possibility to play pool, snooker and carambole. Totally recommend, especially when you want to have a relaxed evening with friends!

As a place to watch sports, the atmosphere is pretty good. There is a decent amount of seating inside with views of the screens, but depending on where you're sitting relative to support columns and how many people are standing, views can be obstructed. It would be helpful if they had additional TVs attached to the columns so there'd be more angles to clearly view matches. There's also an outdoor area with another large projection screen, but I didn't sit outside so can't speak to the experience. There's a good selection of beers on draft that can also be ordered by the pitcher; prices are fair for Lausanne. For food there's a selection of typical bar snacks, such as nachos and wings, as well as pizzas, salads, and burgers. My friend ordered the nachos, which were pretty good. I had a burger which was ok. The meat was kind of dry and instead of using "real" cheese, there was a cheese sauce that wasn't that good. At least the bread was nice as were the potato wedges, so while it's not the best burger ever, it's ok and will satisfy your hunger. Service here is at the bar, and overall it's friendly and efficient, though there was once when we had a long wait to get another round, and the employees seemed to move at a glacial pace. A flaw of this place is the restrooms are too small for such a large bar/restaurant: only one urinal and toilet for the guys, and I think two toilets for the ladies. When we were there the ladies room apparently flooded, so they had to use the one handicapped toilet, and as you can imagine there were long waits. When there aren't sports on, they played a mix of pop and rap. Despite some issues, Bulldog is a solid choice to go watch a match, though I'm not sure I would visit otherwise.
