The side of the park we were on just had street parking or you could park further away at the community center. We opted for the street. The park itself seems like it could really use some updated. I bet when this park first opened, it was amazing. But years of wear and tear are inevitable. And at some point, a large overhaul is in order. The lake was really cool and my kids enjoyed seeing the ducks. I had no idea we had a lake like this with a park in the city. Overall a really cool park that really needs updates. They have two full tennis courts that are decent and a half basketball court that is off to the side of the tennis courts and shares the same fenced in area. There is ample parking here at the park, but I can see how during large events that parking could become scarce. They have two lots; one is located by the tennis courts and other is shared with the Jewish Chabad Center next door. The main section of the park is completely fenced in and has a small picnic shelter with tables under it, a decent paved 2/10 of a mile walking trail, a restroom facility, benches, and a couple of picnic tables. There is a bunch of shade in this area and green space in the center where you could hold a picnic, play catch or relax on. You will also see a borrow a book box and a story trail in the are as well The are also has a playground area that is on a bed of wood chips and has traditional swings, toddler swings, tire swings, a medium sized jungle gym with a slide, A fire truck themed jungle gym with a couple of slides, a merry-go-round, and a jungle gym with monkey bars and rock climbing. The equipment is in decent shape and looked like kids would have a lot of fun here. Because the area is fenced in, it is popular for those with dogs. Even though they have many signs posted to tell you to keep your dogs on a leash, I saw a few people that did not while I was there. This is a very nice park that has a lot to offer. I love the shade that it has. Even though it is located off of a busy road, I still found it peaceful. This place is a diamond in the rough and you should really consider coming here if you are looking for a park to visit.

As a regular at Rhodes Park I will admit that every time I visit I break the law, but I am always…read moresure to follow another law. Hypocritical? Maybe. Because the park is usually empty, and my dog is generally trained to come on voice command, I always let him off the leash here to play fetch (breaking the law!). However, I always pick up after he does his buisness and I will call you out if you don't pick up after your dog (or offer you a scented poo bag). A new city ordinance imposes a fine if you don't pick up. I love the large trees that provide plenty of shade on hot days. The only reason I don't give this park four stars is because it has so much potential to be better. My guess is that at one point way back when, this park was well landscaped and maintained. The city does a good job of keeping it mowed, but it could be so much more. Maybe one day the three parks on Highland Avenue will get some attention.

Rhodes Park is yet another one of the numerous green spaces to get out and enjoy in the 'ham. The…read morepark is like a big bowl within the Highland Park neighborhood, and there's a big open space on one side that's great for throwing a frisbee around. Parking is pretty easy to find in spaces along the roads circling the park. If you're hungry after all that exertion, then Rojo and the new O'Henry's are just a couple blocks away, and you can sit on one of the patios there and enjoy the view out into Rushton Park.

I was working over in the Crestline/Irondale-ish area and wanted to eat my lunch somewhere outside…read moresince it was SUCH a beautiful day. We came across this park on Google... okay sweet! When we got it pulled up on the GPS, I was CONVINCED it was a mistake because we could not find it. We drove all around the block but could not see where it was, even though GPS said we were clearly there! We starting seeing a playground and open areas behind a bunch of houses, so we knew we were nearby. We drove around more and finalllllyyy found an entrance. It is hidden-- the entrance is on Kingsbury Ave. I've posted a picture so you'll know where to find it and what it looks like. There's also only street parking available. It was a Tuesday afternoon in May that we went, and it was so peaceful. The park is completely surrounded by houses (why it's so hard to find). There was only one other person there doing some running exercise. There's a playground, swings, track, picnic tables under some huge trees, and a good amount of open area. It was a hot day so we ate lunch under the trees, which kept us very cool. Then we played on the swings and playground as an attempt to relive our childhood memories! No bathroom or water fountain (maybe I missed that) that I saw. All in all-- a nice peaceful park. Maybe when school is out it might be busier, but I enjoyed myself!
