    Omelette and side salad

It's about an hour from us, but we love driving through the French countryside, and the reward at the end of the drive is lunch at Bigot, followed by their amazing hot chocolate. I love the quiche tourangelle with bits of pork. This place has been here for 100 years and is one of those spots you should not miss if you are visiting Amboise.

    House selection of chocolates

Rating: 74/100 pts This chocolatier/patisserie is smack dab in the middle of town, and flanked on all sides by souvenir shops. Common reason would suggest that it is overpriced and intent on snagging weary travelers. WRONG! Stopping here after seeing the chateau was one of the best decisions I made during my stay in Amboise! Walk in and go straight past the display case and cashier till you get to the cafe seating area. Take a seat and admire the rustic, medieval interior. Without thinking, order the house selection of chocolate w/coffee plate. The dessert tray that comes out includes a mix of the shop's best items, including chocolates, banana bread, merengue, and a piece of brownie. The flavors are rich, the chocolates are deep, and the coffee is fantastic! Though it opened 400 years after his death, I'm fairly certain Leonardo Da Vinci would have frequented this place. I mean, his house was right down the street, and he usually had good ideas. A great place to drop in when visiting Amboise.

The lady here was scary as fuck but the chocolate thing I got was alright. That's it.

Friand Saucisse, Quiche Tourangelle, and Tarte Tatin!!! TO DIE FOR!!!!

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! The best you've ever had! The Friand Saucisse (puff pastry with sausage) is the best version of that that you've ever had!! The Quiche Tourangelle (quiche with two kinds of pork) is out of this world!!! And the TARTE TATIN with pear sorbet and Chantilly cream might be the best thing you have EVER eaten!!!!!! Period!!! INSANELY DELICIOUS!!! All made in house! Great service!! Great food with sidewalk outdoor seating and view of the Château Amboise!! Just perfect!!

    Tasty tarts!

My mom and I tried several tarts and they were really filling but also quite tasty. The coffee eclair was ok but not as flavorful as I'd hoped. What really surprised me was the fact that nearly all of the chocolates I bought were only ok. I expected more from them but expectations have let me down before.

Lovely personalities working there! Great pain de chocolate and croissants! There was a lady working there who helped me with my French and she was very helpful! Great location and delicious food!

Great quiche. Pastries, chocolates, and candies are works of art. Beautiful ambience.

Great view and place to stop for coffee and a dessert- but will not return or recommend due to poor attitude of staff.

Amazing chocolate, amazing pastries, amazing everything!…read more Mr & I stopped by La maison de Rabelais as were exiting the chateau. I can't leave any chocolatier behind & Mr was looking for a savory snack. Grabbed some sea salt caramels, pistachio truffles and honeycomb nougats & these were among the very best chocolates I've ever tasted! The chocolate was so creamy and immediately melted in the mouth - the fillings were intensely flavored and our only regret was not tasting while we were there because we would have purchased a large box instead of the few pieces we did On our way out the door, the Mr saw a cheese quiche & a raspberry jelly filled tart so he grabbed both & the quiche was the cheesiest, most flavorful quiche he's had - the crust was flaky and buttery and again, the only regret was not getting more! I'd even say this place is a destination spot - come for lunch & desserts, sit on their patio while gazing upon the lovely chateau. It's a win-win!

This was an absolute highlight of our honeymoon in France. A quiet little bakery and brasserie…read moreacross the street from the chateaux. The exposed beams, locals popping in to chat was the right, authentic experience we were looking for. Breakfast was perfect. The croque madame was to die for and one of our few regrets from our time in Loire was not making a second visit We bought some chocolates to take with us; the salted caramels were particularly good. Make the stop!
