Kitschà L'os - Kitschà L'os - Nun doll with torn skirt, possibly source of someone's nightmare

Once getting past the "cute" the mid-century retro-esque replica kitsch and beauty products up…read morefront, really enjoyed exploring the real vintage ephemera and functional treasures towards the back of Kitschà L'os... more my kind of stuff! What you may find... * Non-digital media-related stuff like 8mm movie editor and splicers, a Polaroid camera kit, 45 rpm vinyl singles, or real vintage typewriters for banging out your novel without spellcheck; * Classic casserole dishes without exposure to microplastics or non-stick PFAS; * Dial and pushbutton phones for adding back your landline; * Percolators for your morning coffee; * Children's banks for teaching them how to save money; and * Other useful and now obsolete ephemera. Tucked in there were other things that may make you smile (or not if you think about it) such as a nun doll with torn skirt, possibly the source of someone's nightmare. Fun?! Those genuine, truly old, old school finds at Kitschà L'os were like traveling back in time and worth the journey!

The store is set up in two, although not perfectly distinct sections: vintage and antique items (genuine) and vintage-inspired/novelty items. While the latter might have made me like the place less it's so tastefully set up and the prices are so generally reasonable that I can't say boo. Additionally, having the two sections probably makes gift shopping (for your fave Kitsch lover) a dream. When I visited this weekend there was a big labour day sale- I spotted beautiful vintage Pyrex bowls for prices like $25. Obviously you could probably snag these kinds of things for cheaper if you combed through a Village des Valeurs, by why bother if these guys are going to dig up the good stuff? I most definitely will be back!

Need to decorate your pad?…read more Just come here. Seriously this is a gigantic Winners and Homesense all-in-one location at the Place Versailles mall, literally steps away from Radisson metro station. Like all Winners and Homesense, it can be hit or miss but I've walked away with more hits than misses at this particular location. You'll find all sorts of unique items for your home if you like to decorate like I do. Recipe books, rugs, olive wood cutting boards, vanity mirrors, hand-blown glass vases from Poland, you'll find all of that here and much more. I think because this location is farther away from the city center, it seems to stock better stuff. Not a big deal. If you're on the metro, it is about 20 minutes from downtown, but keep your ear buds on or read a book and you'll be here in no time. Also, if you like picking up and collecting quality recipe books, this Homesense is the best place for it. I have picked up classics like the 2 volume boxed set of "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" by Julia Child, the classic of Italian cooking "The Silver Spoon", "The Gourmet Cookbook Vol. I and II", all of it in hardcover and for a fraction of what you would pay for them anywhere else. The Julia Child set I often see online for $60+. I picked it up here for $30. It's always worth stopping here and looking because stock changes all the time here and you'd be very surprised what you'll find.

Lovaco…read morehas beautiful furniture that fits our space and style, made from materials that I can feel good about, and that wear well. We got our sofa from them at the start of the pandemic and our giant dog immediately adopted it, which would be hard on a lesser sofa, but ours still looks great. We've since gotten a living room chair, and a stool that are PERFECT and comfortable, a beanbag chair which is the most charming thing we own, and a couple of gorgeous lamps. The service is always wonderful, both friendly and helpful. We're looking forward to seeing what they'll have in their new, bigger space. This is the store for people who tend towards a mid-century or Scandinavian aesthetic but are grossed out by how shoddy Ikea has become and can afford to spend a little more on something that's local, much better made, and noticeably better looking.

I loved the multiple green spaces around the café area where you could relax with a drink and a book under some greenery. The staff was welcoming but definitely left you to explore and wander the store. It also houses a cool little cafe with bread and pastries from L' Amour au Pain. The latte was really good. Sorry, no drip brewed coffee for any Americans out there. I believe they make sandwiches and salads for a quick no fuss lunch. Ok, now the part I've been hesitant on whether I should share because I want it to be my own little piece of urban paradise. I figured in the end, it is not mine to keep and I would be doing the business owners a disservice by not helping them attract more clients to them. This place should be shared with anyone willing to explore the hidden treasures of the City. Most tourists would not come into a home furnishings place, but trust me. You want to at least grab a coffee and follow me. My absolute favorite part is their little shaded "terrasse" ally. If you ever need a little hideaway when you are in Old Port. It's the perfect place. I feel like I've been transported to a different time and place. Nothing fancy, just tranquil, a simple elegance that the French are synonymous with. I wonder if the manager would kick me out if I curled up with a book one day.
