Usually populated by teens, it's refresching to see that most are cordial and rarely do I see kids smoking or hear swearing (I'm often at the bus stop with my younger kids). I like the set-up of this park: it has small hills to the west, the parking garage to the south, and the bus bays to the east. There is an "active" graffitti wall, as the City encourages pent-up teen taggers to let loose on this wall - and the results are usually pretty creative! I always thought this was a terrific idea to discourage graffitti elsewhere, by allowing it in certain public spaces. Looking at the skate park proper, it seems to have all the rails and ramps that most other skate parks have - perhaps just in a more constricted space.

They also do skate camps during the summer. It's next to the soccer and baseball fields and a bathroom is available. It definitely feels like a safe welcoming place and I have been here multiple times with my son.

The trails were relatively well maintained but not particularly wide and, as others have said - quite a bit of garbage around. Lots of fun things to look at and very accessible for our kids. I did notice that a number of trees look like they are unhealthy and perhaps needed to be taken down. Lots of shade for a warm day.

My favorite part of this park is the glacial erratic that's just to the side of the skate park. Though not as mighty as the Lake Stevens erratic, this one is pretty darn impressive. Parking is plentiful and there's a porta-john on site for that need.

After parking my car, I went to the skate park and checked out a sculpture piece added in 2008 with the skate park, per the website as of 1 August 2023 the main park itself is approximately 40 years old. After setting a self-timer on my phone and taking a picture of myself having fun, I went and explored the main park area. A large grassy area had yellow grass, a reminder of low rainfall paired with summer heat. Birds chirped along the border on one side of the park, chirping as they flitted about in with the blooming wildflowers. I could hear a Steller's jay calling from the direction of an area of trailer homes bordering another side of the park. A group was using the playground and a fenced basketball area had its gate open for use.

Arriving at Heritage Park in Stanwood around 9:29 a.m. this morning, Wednesday 24 May 2023, one…read morevehicle was pulling out of the parking lot and other than that my silver 2010 Toyota Corolla that I named Lepton was the only vehicle in the parking lot. City workers were in their office (at work on the road) and the road was closed past the park. Driving all the way up to the road closed sign, I saw the turn-in for the parking lot and was relieved the entrance was not in the section of the road that was closed. The park has a variety of offerings including numerous soccer fields, two large baseball fields, pickleball courts abutting a fenced-in grassy sitting area equipped with benches, a skate park, a playground, a restroom building by a flagpole, porta-pottis scattered throughout the park, and two horseshoe pits. I had not thrown a horseshoe in 15 to 20 years (I am approximately 30 years old as of writing this on 24 May 2023). So, knowing I was bigger and stronger than the last time I threw one, I picked up a horseshoe and threw it better than I ever did when I was growing up. Fun to see the decade-plus rest served my horseshoe-throwing skills well. A swallow soared past me and Lepton in the parking lot and European starlings were hard at work foraging in the grass of one of the baseball fields. A worker was mowing the grass past one of the baseball fields. It was an overall serene exploring experience.

Good for beginners but when the ramps get wet they take FOREVER to dry. And they are super slippery…read morewhen wet.
