You meet the most awesome people when you do activities that involve animals. Janet and Denver this world is better because of You two !! Went to their stable today 5/3 and just WOW.. the stable the horses the knowledge the stories - I could have stayed forever !! Thank you for a wonderful experience.. and sharing your beautiful horses with us.We will see you again shortly.

Such an awesome location located nearby! I spoke with many people beforehand who were all surprised to know of a local spot right in Syosset with horseback riding. The trails were awesome and Janet was so incredibly nice and knowledgeable. I took my boyfriend for his birthday and he loved it!! I would recommend wearing stretchy/loose fitting jeans. You definitely dont want something too tight as itll be extremely uncomfortable and painful when in the saddle. It can be painful in your inner thighs after a while but Janet gave some good tips to minimize that feeling! After the 1.25h ride we got to feed the horses apples and carrots (they loveeeee carrots!) that we had brought from our home. DEFINITELY recommend going here and maybe deeper into the Spring as we didnt get to see much greenery since things are JUST beginning to bloom - but thats not their fault!

I have ridden here a few times and brought my son and daughter. They are such sweet people. They give you more than your money's worth.Janet and her staff are super knowledgeable and willing to educate. I wish them much happiness and success in their new place!! If anyone deserves it,it's them. Go for a ride, you will not be dissappointed!!

Loved this whole experience. Janet was so wonderful in guiding us. The trail is beautiful, the horses were very well behaved. The whole experience was very peaceful. It's a great way to get away without leaving Long Island. We are definitely coming back, and can't wait!

If you are into getting away from it all for a little while and enjoying the outdoors, do yourself a favor and spend some time on horseback with Janet as your guide. You'd be hard pressed to find a better place to ride and enjoy the scenery than here- and across the street to the Muttontown Preserve. Well tended paths and nice open fields through make for a peaceful morning. The mad Russian (aka Mrs. Me) booked us an early trip mostly because she had to get to work in the late morning. When we arrived early, Janet was finishing up her chores and getting things ready as we looked on at the feeding of the horses. In a conservation area, without too much fanfare, travel slowly so you don't miss the entrance. Once inside, there is ample parking and if you're lucky, there won't be too many in your group. As it turned out, there were just the three of us and that suited us just fine. After Janet spoke to us about our experiences, she set us up with horses and adjusted the stirrups for us to ride. We both had decent experience at riding so this went probably faster than it might. She is very thorough and makes sure that everyone involved is comfortable and that includes rider and horse. You'll ride for at least an hour and if it's been a while since you last rode, your legs will remind you of the experience either later that same day or the next. If you're able, you'll get a lesson on posting and trotting with the horse. Pleasant conversation along our walk through the woods and the silences between to take in the scenery. Depending on the time of year, bring bug spray for yourself. Janet was nice enough to lead the way and clear all of the cobwebs for us, lol. I know that we will be back soon because Mrs. Me loves the animals so much and enjoys riding almost or equal to her love of fishing. Well done!

My horse was perfect size for me!

Very well worth the trip! Janet makes everything so easy! I am a first time rider and I felt very comfortable. The area is so beautiful and very easy to get to from Manhattan! My husband and I loved every minute of it.

Had a great experience with Janet leading the way! She took her time to explain everything to us. We got some background on the horses and away we went! Communication was great and pretty fast with janet it was all done primarily through text. We got to ride and feed some snacks to feed the horses afterwards. We all had to wear masks at the common area but once riding they can come off.

Beautiful barn and property - feels like you're on your own private estate. Janet was lovely - a very warm and helpful instructor on our trail ride. The horses were so sweet and well behaved - especially for a beginner rider like myself. It was exactly what I needed! Thank you Janet!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience! Janet our tour guide was amazing! The horses were noticeably very well taken care of by her and her staff! Horses were well behaved and the trail ride was very enjoyable. We certainly wouldn't hesitate to return and ride again!

My daughter and I made memories today horseback riding at Big River Barn with our host Janet. We really enjoyed the trail through Connetquot Park Preserve. It was very relaxing and great for the soul. We also learned some important techniques for both safety and becoming one with the horse. We had a great time and highly recommend. We shall return for more adventures.

Today was my second time riding with Janet and Big Barn Rescue. The last time I went was at their previous location with my family friend. Today I went with my mom for a Mother's Day gift at their new location in Muttontown and it was BEAUTIFUL. The horses are so responsive. I rode Prima Donna, a 26 year old Arabian, and she was so good. I hope to be able to ride her again soon - loved her trot. The trail is amazing and there is even a big open space where you can trot/canter at your own will. I will definitely be back again and again.

I have been looking for a decent place to do a horse riding session with friends that is outside of the city and close to nature. Big River Barn offered an amazing one hour trail that made the whole experience unforgettable. Janet was really friendly, made sure each of us felt comfortable, and did not rush anything throughout the process. Most of us were beginners so we were a little bit nervous, but the horses are amazing and easy-going, so it wasn't that hard to get adjusted. I'm very glad I came here and tried it out and I highly recommend it to you too!

What is the availability on a Saturday?

Text me at 516-650-0016 for info about availability or anything else.

What would be the minimum age recommended? I have a 7 year old, is she too young?

She’s too young for us. Try Alicia Curcio at 516-286-2461. She takes small kids.

What is the pricing per person for a 1 hr trail ride?

Our rides last at least 1 1/4 hours, usually closer to 1 1/2 hours, and cost $125 per person. We take cash or credit card.

The facility is on the CW Post campus of Long Island University, and I must say, it's run very professionally. My awesome coach is helping me sort through my anxiety after being thrown pretty badly about 6 months ago. She gives tons of positive reinforcement, is patient, and knows exactly what I'm ready for. Love her. They have a huge indoor ring as well, which is great for lessons in the winter/rain, etc. They have all sorts of school horses, so if you need to start on a pokey pony, they are available! I've seen all levels and ages riding out there. Little tiny kids to old people like me. I've taken away one star for two reasons: sometimes I'm in the ring with up to 3 other lessons, which can get a little crowded; and I wish that I could tack up the horses myself and put them back in their stalls. They have handlers that do that for you. They offer pay as you go half hour and hour lessons. I think they also offer 10 lesson packages, but that's way too rich for my blood.
