These seven neon colored stacked boulder towers (each boulder between 10 and 25 tons) are located in the middle of nowhere. This art installation symbolizes the meeting between nature and the artificial. Stacked like stone cairns, these shouldn't be as captivating as they are, but it brings out a childlike wonder, and everyone who sees them marvels at them. These have faded somewhat (I was also here in 2019 so I posted some of those pictures too). This work was supposed to be relocated in 2024 but I think now it will become permanent. You will need a car/transportation to view this. There was a food truck nearby but otherwise no facilities.

When we visited now, it wasn't too busy compared to September, when the crowds were a lot bigger. The only downside was seeing graffiti on one of the rocks -- it's frustrating that people feel the need to ruin something so unique. Overall, still a great spot for photos and a short scenic visit while in Vegas.

Standing there with his happy little face (I am guessing it's a boy cat, but who knows?), it's a total mood lifter amid the city's neon chaos. Snowball is an unofficial city mascot, especially to those of us creative types who frequent the downtown Arts District. Perfect for a quick selfie or just to take in some fun street art, Snowball's got a playful energy that makes it impossible not to smile. His tongue is sticking out and his squinting eyes have the cutest expression ever (and one that most cat parents will recognize). Snowball's oversized ears are the icing on the cake.  I love public art and I personally think it's worth the trip downtown to pay Snowball a visit. It's a fun, quirky statue that's free and open to all, 24/7.

The Artistic Iron Works on Charleston makes decorative metal designs and sculptures like tortoise, plants, horses, and dinosaurs, so cool! 18-blocks of the Arts District is amazing! I wasn't sure where we were headed since we had trusted Nadine's expert navigation through Las Vegas over the past six days. She took us to places we've never been to but have only enjoyed reading about through other Yelp reviews since I started Yelp in 2013. I knew that Nadine drove us to the edge of the Downtown area as we went through a site that appeared to be residential yet surrounded by low-rise hotels, a couple of high-rises, and bright neon lighted signs. She asked us to keep our eyes peeled for street parking as we got closer to the destination, and as Lady Luck would have it, we scored a parking space within seconds of her request. She was also excited because as we exited the car, she directed us to walk to the nearby street corner. We first noticed the heart sculpture filled with padlocks that reminded me of the famed love lock bridge, Pont des Arts, in Paris, France. But, soon after, I was enthralled with the sight of an enormous 60-ft metal sculpture of a Praying Mantis and the entrance to Las Vegas' Container Park shopping mall. We noticed several people sitting on the bleachers facing the statue, and before I could step up to take a peek at the praying mantis' background placard, Nadine told me to stay in place since the show was about to begin. No sooner than I drew back, a voice announced the celebration of someone's birthday and several events around town. The colorful lights on the praying mantis flashed, lively music played, and its animatronics made this metal monster come alive. As I was taking pictures, several bursts of flames shot from the praying mantis' antennae with explosions, which made me jump out of my shoes and heart race. Other spectators danced around the area to the music and added to the entertainment. The fire show lasted several minutes, and we wandered around the Container Park shopping mall. The shopping mall features locally-owned boutique-like businesses with a "hand-crafted flair." From Container Park's Business Directory, we noted jewelry, art, toys, apparel, and pet supply stores. While browsing this mall, we found it to be a refreshing change from seeing the high-end or upscale stores on The Strip. At the center of the park, there was an interactive playground for adults and children, complete with a 33' tall slide and a NEOS play system. If we weren't feeling so full from dinner, my husband would have proposed that we play or challenge ourselves in the electronic play system. What's not to like? The Praying Mantis is Public Art with free entertainment, and the Container Park is a fun place to let their inner child out.

The giant insect towers just under 40 feet, and it looks like something straight out of a science fiction movie.  This thing came to be at the Burning Man festival over a decade ago, and now it has become a centerpiece in the quirky Las Vegas Arts District that's loved by locals and tourists alike. The Mantis is pretty cool day or night, although the dramatic lighting makes for better photo ops in the evening. It used to shoot fire from its head, but I haven't seen it with the flames in years. Regardless, this is the perfect stop for anyone who is a fan of offbeat art, funky photo ops, or just a good dose of "only in Vegas" weirdness.

I reached out to this business and sadly learned that there are no places in town that teach this skill. This business does offer other classes working with fused glass so I decided to sign up for one. The cost for my class was only $40 which I thought was very reasonable. Although I am not in this part of town often, the studio was easy to find parking was plentiful in their lot. This business is broken into two areas. When you enter, you are in the gallery and there are various artists featured along with their pieces. Very impressive. In the back of the studio is where all the glass art is created. There are kilns, tools, workbenches etc. My friend and I signed up to create a colorful heart this past Saturday morning. We were warmly greeted by Don who checked us in and then we patiently waited for the class to begin. Barbara and Larry (owners) took us back into the working part of the studio and we all found our places around two tables. Since we were handling glass, we had to wear gloves for safety. The purpose of the class was to create a mosaic style heart/paperweight. There were two large trays at each table filled with colorful, fused glass. After trying various sizes of the glass, I was finally able to finish creating my design and considered my heart masterpiece completed. Larry was extremely informative and helpful throughout the class as was Barbara. I learned from Larry about their extensive involvement with our community. They had just recently held an event for the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation. I love a small business that gives back and it makes me want to support them even more. Both Barbara and Larry display a real passion for what they do and enjoy sharing it with others. Larry expressed to me how addicting creating this kind of art an be and I totally believe him. After our hearts were created, they would now be placed in the kiln for firing. Barbara advised all of us that as soon as our hearts were ready, we would be notified and able to pick them up. I have been looking for a creative outlet and I believe I will be back taking more classes and learning more about working with fused glass.

A moment in which in your burry eyed, foggy state of boarding your return flight home, you might vaguely remember a giant thing with tumbling numbers or a giant tree house looking thing you thought was a restaurant. But make no mistake, those items (which are indeed public art) have been placed there for you to see, experience, be mesmerized by and enjoy....whether you actually knew it or not. Crystals and the City Center area that surrounds it, is a treasure trove of some of the city's greatest contemporary, cool art installations. From the cool Mihajima Marks U.S debuted piece that went in to Crystals last year, to the funky cool tree house that houses Maestros designed by David Rockwell or James Turrell's Akhob located inside Louis Vuitton (appointments required, so call well in advance)...great art is everywhere at Crystals! Look up City Center Art Collection before you visit, for if art is your thing, this is a fun scavenger hunt around City Center, in addition to Crystals (the shopping entity at City Center). Most of the pieces are large and can make you travel around the entire site to discover. The art at Crystals can rotate from time to time, so keep your eyes peeled for new stuff during each visit.

It's a 5-6 day display set up time and they post on their website when it's closed off for set up called "dark dates." The horticulture team does an amazing job with both real and faux flowers, it's impressive! If you go during the day, aka normal waking hours, it's super packed but you can still get a few chances to take photos without anyone in it if you're patient. If you want no one in your photo, obviously need to go at crazy hours like 3am-6am. Recently went in April '26 for their "Springtime Symphony: Music In Motion" with a horse carousel. This theme celebrated an enchanted landscape and the joy of a springtime symphony in full bloom. Note: you can buy the fragrance in the air by way of the seasonal candle at the shop jointly connected to the conservatory!
