In particular, Magic: The Gathering is their specialty. They deal in box sets, booster packs, and singles. Their prices are reasonable for the going rates within the TCG market at any given time. In addition, their staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the various games they sell. If your inner nerd has a TCG itch to scratch, skip the big box stores and pay Star City Comics & Games a visit.

I first came there in the 2022 to play D&D. I bought all of…read moremy books, dice, starter set, and character sheets there. A big pro for Mishap Games is that James will take a chance on you even though you are a stranger when you ask to host games. Some stores are very shy. The big problem in 2022 and in 2023 was the story was poorly cleaned. The tables were not cleaned during the week and the trash cans were never taken out either. Therefore there were nats flying around all the time. I remember for three weeks straight there was a donut box under the check out counter. The bathrooms was something out of a Eastern Kentucky rest stop. Then in the summer of 2023 there was the huge issue where out of nowhere James stopped folks from coming to the store and using his tables. He was disappointed that folks were coming in and not even saying hello or buying anything, then after months of coming to the store they would just vanish. I totally understand his frustration. Sadly, this hasty policy was enough for some folks to leave the store and never come back. And it all could have been prevented by just having the discord calendar managed better and better communication with loyal customers from the get go. Within a matter of days James reversed his policy due to the feedback he got on discord. Thankfully, for 2024, the store is much much cleaner. Sadly, once again due to horrible communication and judgement, James has lost more business. About 1.5 hours before my group was going to play at his table, one of the players who lives within walking distance brought 3 or 4 kids into the store. They were not his kids. Then I get notified that if this same person or anyone that has been playing with him at the same table does this again then we will no longer have access to the tables. So this is like five people. These five people did nothing wrong. So I just saved James the trouble by just banning myself for life. I wouldn't have a spine or self respect if I walked back in there. I wise manager would have a store policy in place for such matters if that was such a liability risk (which is what I was told) and the customer would have been told to leave immediately. Furthermore, a wise manager would tell the person that brought in the kids that they would be banned from playing, instead of casting a wide net and getting customers involved who are innocent and have done nothing wrong. This store has a lot of potential, but James seems determined to run off customers. It already has a great location with great parking. Sadly, James has failed to capitalize on the basement to help folks socialize (Fiji Island days) and the Kitchen (Fiji Island days) for supplemental income. James is an expert with games, and is friendly and can talk with you, but he's a horrible manager, and a unfair person. The margin for error is too thin when you compete with Amazon and roll 20 and the like. I don't see this business lasting through 2025. Just a wild guess.

So I arrived and picked it up, took it to the desk and the lady said she needed to get approval for the price match. I looked up the listing from walmart to show her the listed price. She said that the price, including the shipping, has to be lower than their price. The listing says "Free pickup, Fri October 11th." She took a picture of the listing, including the shipping details and sends them in a message to her store manager, no reply. She called the manager, no answer. Time is burning. She messaged the store owner, no reply. She called the owner, no answer. We are now at 20 minutes of waiting. I figured "It would be a shame to leave empty handed, i mean after all Ive waited this long." She keeps messaging and calling until finally she gets through to someone, but they hang up on her. Finally, 30 minutes after I arrived, she makes contact with someone that can approve the discount. She is than told the manager has to confirm the price and is hung up on. So we wait even longer. Finally she gets a call, they wont match the price because walmart's free shipping is only if I spend $35. Walmart clearly ships this item to the store for free. The lady at the store was very nice. I cannot recommend her more highly. The manager of the store was both unprofessional and demeaning in the way he/she treated the customer and the lady at the counter. Later in the evening the owner called me to apologize and offered to deliver it to my himself.

They have sections for fiction, non-fiction, young adults, cooking, new arrivals, local authors, and more. I like how they offer both used and new books at affordable prices. In addition to books they have all the book accessories you could think of- bookmarks, notebooks, stickers, and more. It doesn't stop with with just books they have treats from local sweetshops, handmade candles, and handmade body scrubs. The lady who runs the store is adorable too. Opening this store has been her dream since moving to Blacksburg and she did it so well. I can't wait to spend more time walking around the store finding new reads and chatting with her.

Please support your bookstore!! I live in a country that has no bookstore. There are a couple of…read moreshops in the resort towns that sell books abandoned by travellers or people moving out of the country, but no bookstore. So I was absolutely thrilled to be in this one during a recent visit stateside. On 9 Sept, I spent hours inspecting every inch of every shelf... I even forgot to have lunch. Despite my "loitering" no one followed or questioned me (yes, it has happened that I've been surveilled in a bookstore after the first hour of shopping). I had a few questions about the location of certain items. The store manager, Clayton Richmond, came to my aid and had a few recommendations even. I appreciated his time and attention as it was very helpful. The two women at checkout were also incredibly and genuinely friendly and helpful. I think is also a reflection of Mr Richmond's management as well as the work ethic and disposition of the women themselves. This would be my favorite happy place if I lived in Roanoke. The night before we reserved a book at end of the day. My husband drove 2.5 hours to pick the book up when they opened and they sold it out from under us. This was for a little girl and now we have to tell her that this store didn't abide by their policies and sold it to some man whose hold had expired the night before. Teresa was yelling, rude and was blaming us!! Teresa has no business training staff or having any contact with anyone from the outside world. She's a terrible human being!
