Big Rusty is made with a lot more metal than most of the other trolls, which are mostly made from wood. I believe all of his artwork is made from reclaimed items and it was actually nice to be able to see and appreciate this medium. Photos don't do Big Rusty Justice. There there is a real charm to this hungry creation that only comes across when you see himin person. Don't be put off by all the no trespassing signs and road closure signs and dead end signs, etc... it seems that the people who live nearby are just trying to keep visitors away. There is a very clear sign at the beginning of the gravel road that states the city has declared the road open and it is okay for you to visit. You will probably spend as much time walking through the abandoned buildings and looking at the graffiti as you do in appreciating Big Rusty. Art is art and this is definitely worth visiting.

This is the first in his series of trolls to pop up in NJ but there are over 100 sculptures around the world. The abandoned building behind Big Rusty was a former pottery factory and what is still standing is covered with graffiti, which kind of adds to the cool factor here. There were a couple of kids adding to it when we were there. This is by no means a finished park with paved trails and restrooms. There is a lot of broken glass, some of the structures are a bit iffy and there is poison ivy all over, so watch your step. We were headed to Philly and made the pit stop here first. There isn't a ton to do in the area and you can only spend so much time admiring Big Rusty so if you're driving far make sure you have other plans nearby.
