I could quite literally wring the fish out and get a glass of cooking oil. The chips were mediocre at best. Didn't taste that great, but weren't as greasy as the fish. Didn't give it 1 star because at least it didn't make me throw up.

Bel and the Dragon is the hidden gem of Reading. Great location, especially when dinning outside…read more The service has always been great and the food superb! Their roast is exquisite but it's the suckling pig that keeps bringing me back. For the wine connoisseurs, there is a bottle on their list for you. For the novice, don't worry - you can't go wrong with the house white or red. Make sure to leave a little room after your great meal for an espresso martini to wrap it all up. In short, when someone asks me to suggest a place in Reading for dinner, my first suggestion is always Bel and the Dragon.

We did say something to the waitress and she was very apologetic. Then manager came over apologised again and asked if there is anything wrong with the beef. We said it was the veg mainly. The beef was ok but not great. They gave us some free side dishes and desserts. I must say the building and the services were very good. However the chef and food really let this place down. I saw most people left out their veg on their plate when I left. My partner doesn't normally complain about food. So it must be quite bad. You can't cook the potatoes right what's left for a Sunday roast?! It's £20 for the roast so there should be some expectations to it. I gave 2 stars only because the service was good and the complimentary gesture. Otherwise 1 star!

They seat you, then you order at the counter. Food can be a long time coming, even if like us, you head in before it fills up, which it can. But it seems the long waits are just because it's all done well. Burgers are towering, and there are almost always new flavours on the menu. Lots of mad stuff to try along the classics. Plus, veggie, chorizo, chicken, and even Greek or minted lamb options. Plus great dips and fantastic shakes. All I'd say, is the bill soon adds up though. Even with an online voucher deal. Everything superb, but you sure pay for it. Cracking place though.

Ordering was fine, but long wait for food. Children both had junior chicken burgers which were described fresh chicken breast fillets as but were 2 breaded chicken strips in a bun. Youngest wouldn't touch his. Had to wait 10 minutes for drinks and husbands didn't arrive with rest of order, was then left on bar for further 10 minutes while staff walked past it. Both adult burgers were very good - a kiwi and a veggie and camembert. Chips are overpriced at 2.95. Don't think I would visit again.

I managed to break from the sandwich rut and instead got a baked potato, which actually hit the spot. Served with some chili that actually had a slight bit of heat, some tomato and salad, this was a nice change. They also had good looking sandwich fillings, tuna salad, chicken salad, the like, however, I couldn't see any labels, and as a tourist, I was a bit daunted. In the end, the hot lunch sounded better anyway, and was pretty satisfying. Prices do seem a bit high...I think it was £5.50 for my baked potato. If I do the math on that, it seems like quite a bit for a potato, even with chili. I think sandwiches may have actually be a little less than the potato.
