I went fishing with Captain Dave years ago - back when I was probably 12 or 13 years old. It was…read moreone of the best experiences of my life. Capt. Dave was incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the man knows his fish. We headed out early one morning from Fernandina. It was great weather, clear and not too hot for the middle of summer. The captain told us to head into the marina and we'd recognize him because he's the biggest guy there. He's also the nicest guy there but he wouldn't tell you. We had a great ride out. Capt. Dave said that he had just replaced the engine, and you could tell. It was purring. The ride was fun and smooth. But the fun started when we stared fishing. Captain Dave knows the waters around Amelia. It's his home. We started the day without too much action, but we were honing in. We passed some other boats and it was obvious Dave was friends with all the captains. Fun to see other people on the water. But the real fun started later. We saw some action in the water and Captain Dave and the first mate said it looked like a sailfish. Dave was determined to get it. As we cruised I heard the line snap. Dave yelled, "Sail! Sail!" And I saw a fish larger than I was at the time jump out of the water. We fought the fish for an hour, and landed it. It was one of the most memorable moments of my life. On a separate trip with Capt. Dave we landed so many barracuda we had fish in the freezer for a year. This man knows how to fish.
