Called three times over the past few weeks to order a Berkshire pork roast for Christmas. 1st time I was told, no problem, call back in a week and we'll order it. The next two times I called back it seemed they had forgotten I'd called. But said they would call me back to let me know when they could get it. I ended up going into the store, and the gentlemen said he would get it tomorrow and he would call when it was in. This was two days ago, and I still don't have a call back. I'm a bit upset the service has been so poor because the meat looks awesome and I've heard good things, but I've had to find another go to butcher.

They have all kinds of fish/seafood and all kinds of meat - both marinated and non-marinated - and the prices are pretty reasonable. On the weekends they usually have some more special things (fresh Wagyu), just call ahead to make sure they have what you need. Everything is very well spaced out and organized in this store, and you can ask anyone for help and they'll direct you where you need to go. They even have rewards points to help out the frequent shoppers! I'm a big fan of the Butcher's Market and will continue to go there when I'm buying something special.

While in line to checkout we saw more than a few people with trays of cinnamon buns so we had to try them as well. This is a summery of our purchased food:. The cinnamon rolls were grainy. Not smooth. I think they were old (I had to pull them from the back). The steaks had a great flavor as the marinade was really good. Three of the 4 steaks were over cooked because we were given 4 different sized steaks. 2 got burnt the third was well done....$60 wasted. The tuna was good but again they gave us one large steak and one thinner one so the smaller was was dry....another $15 wasted. If I can make any suggestion....do not make a purchase without seeing what you are buying. $136.00 later I can say I was disappointed because of the unevenness it was cooked improperly. 4 stars because the cook is partially to blame. 3 stars otherwise. The sales person is the first person that should know better than to sell meat and fish the way they did. Ruined my Christmas meal. Only 1 of us ate. :(

The only reason I found out about it is because my National Guard unit just moved from Abbeville to near Hodges and Ware Shoals. I was making up a missed drill. When you do a make-up, you work with one of the full-time folks and go out to lunch if you want. They took me to Godfrey's. Only locals know about it. Godfrey's is a restaurant, as well as a small market with a few really high quality meats, including their own country ham and homemade sausage. It turns out the sausage is made by a retired National Guard guy who I knew. For lunch, I had fried chicken, recommended by my buddies, and fries. The fried chicken was great, the usual southern batter done perfectly. Fries were also cooked properly. You can also get burgers and the usual fare for a walk up lunch counter. There are also typical grocery items you would find at a small market, mostly necessities, it is the only grocery for probably 10 miles or more. Hodges is tiny. But, the real prize is the meats and pimento cheese. The sausage and pimento cheese are both made there fresh. The sausage is exceptional, ground pork, mildly spiced and very lean. The pimento cheese is the best I have ever had, it has some olive and jalapenos that give it a perfect kick. Godfrey's is worth going out of your way to visit. Eat lunch, get 10 pounds of sausage if that much is available and get pimento cheese. If you could freeze pimento cheese, I'd get ten pounds of that, too. If you like country ham, theirs looks good.

We are Central Coast California (Santa Maria Tri Tip land) transplants and we love our grilled tri tip. We also picked up some marinated carne asada and chicken. Even found my favorite Happy Cow Habanero Jack cheese! My Tri Tip was the best I've had since moving here almost 3 years ago! I'm heading in today to grab some tallow for frying and of course another tri tip! Do yourself a favor and stop here for all of your summer grilling needs!
