We had a very good night's sleep. The beds were very comfortable and the sheets were very soft bamboo sheets. The rooms had a coffee pot but also a hot pot that I loved being able to have hot tea in my room. There was a continental breakfast that had a lot of variety including hot waffles, bagels, cereals, yogurt, juice, coffee, hot chocolate, tea. I would definitely stay there again. Also it's not very far off Hwy 80. Kudos to the owners. read more

We had an unexpected but lovely stay at The Big Chief Hotel. The rooms were modern and clean, very comfortable nights sleep. Kim and Stefanie were helpful to us as we navigated our Sprinter breaking down and needing repair. We enjoyed the pool and the continental breakfast was on point. Highly recommend if you find yourself in Battle Mountain! read more

Nice, clean hotel. Great, restful stop on our long trip home. Basic breakfast was enough to get us quickly on the road next morning.

You've seen the pictures of the outside in other posts. Actually a great place. We don't usually stay at motel's because the doors/windows face outward and tend to be noisy with car and lights flooding the room but this is the exception to the rule. Room was nice with a comfy bed (as stated in previous reviews). Fridge was awesome!!! I always put it on the coldest and rarely (as it did here) does it freeze my water on the top shelf. Breakfast was carb heavy but there's a casino with a restraunt a block away if you want an actual breakfast. Very quiet and no headlights in the windows. Staff was great and there's a great variety of restaurants within 2 miles of the motel. It was $130.00 a night on Priceline which I thought was a little spendy for a motel but everything is spendy right now. Bidenomics!! Overall, for a Motel, I would highly recommend this place and will probably stay here again on our way back through. read more

A nice, clean, quiet, reasonably priced motel. We had a great night's sleep. Highly recommended.

As advertised on billboard along I-80 & online sources this is a CLEAN hotel. Room had everything a traveler could need. The customer service was outstanding. Had issues with TV, satellite dish service but the hotel owner was right on it & fixed it. She's the reason the hotel is so nice, clean and worth the stay; every time I saw her she was busy, busy, busy. I was traveling from Sacramento to Salt Lake City & didn't want to drive the full 10+ hrs so I made an over night pit stop here. It was a good decision, making the stop & choosing Big Chief. read more

Kim and her Staff are amazing. I stayed 14 days on my last trip. This is the only place I'd in Battle Mountain. read more

The room was nice and clean. The employees were all nice and friendly. They use refillable soap and shampoo and lotion bottles to reduce so much plastic use. The breakfast was good and very thoughtful lots of jellies and jams. read more

We had an unexpected stay in Battle Mountain as the result of car trouble on our way to California. Picked the motel after a quick search for the best price and ratings. One night, turned into two... the service is amazing, rooms are super clean and the beds are fantastic! Not knowing when we might get our car out of the shop, they allowed us to pay a small fee to have a place to relax until 5:00 pm. We ended up staying an additional evening and they credited the small fee towards or second night stay. This place is awesome and I highly recommend! read more

This hotel is right on the river. Views are amazing. They have food and beverages you can buy in the office. Breakfast is very good, wide selection of food. Rooms are clean read more

My boyfriend and I went to this motel over the weekend and it was very pleasant. When he checked in he was greeted by a friendly associate and was very welcoming. She recommended the Mexican restaurant down the street that was very good. We were impressed with the cleaning staff as the rooms were spotless. We are looking forward to coming back and staying. read more

Everything about the Big Chief Motel works. The hotel is well maintained, the staff are wonderful and the breakfast is fresh and delicious. We had a wonderful stay in their comfortable beds and enjoyed breakfast in their two person swing chair. If you are passing through Battle Mountain and looking for a great night's stay then look no further than the Chief. read more

The looks from the outside definitely do not do this place justice. From the outside it appears to be a hotel where ladies of the night and the stereotypical trucker utilizes. However, we arrived around 1a promptly got our first floor room. The parking lot was pretty packed but we found parking right outside our room door. We entered the room not knowing what to expect and to our surprise it was very clean, organized and neatly assembled. Tb worked with clear picture and premium channels, hardwood (might not be real wood) floors, tiled vanity area and bathroom, only negative was trying to figure out how to get hot water in shower (hint: just keep turning the knob and checking the temp). Room had a mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot with coffee, a small dining table, heat/ac unit, and a desk area. The bed itself was comfy, clean, and desired after a long drive. Rooms are well lit, and pretty spacious. On our return trip to our home state we stayed here again- and had the opportunity to stay in the second floor rooms. We noticed that the lower level floors appear to be smoking rooms whereas the rooms on the second floor are non-smoking as they have a non-smoking sign on the door (just an FYI). However both rooms we occupied (lower and upper room) did not smell of smokers remorse. So win win. The top floor room had more plush bedding (throw pillows, two sets of standard size pillows). Also the upper room was carpeted verses the hard wood floors on the lower level. Nonetheless the rooms seem to have all the same amenities (microwave, mini fridge, ironing board, iron, cable tv, heater, coffee pot, etc). read more

For being a 1star motel, it definitely is under rated. The owner put a lot of work into this motel to make it clean and modern. We came up for a softball tournament in the summer and she was very accommodating. We took over her parking lot every night with parents and kids- and she was understanding. read more

The room was clean, the service desk was helpful and I just loved the bed. Actually was the only good night of rest I got in our one week vacation. Loved the breakfast they had too. Had waffles, coffee, juice, sweets, cereal, milk, toast and a few other things. The only thing that people might not like is the train goes by here, we were already awake when it went by at 6:35am on a Saturday, so it didn't bother us much but heads up to other people. They also had a pool but we didn't have a chance to use it. read more

Awful experience. The parking lot wasn't maintained at all after the snow, this should have been our warning to leave. We have a sedan and didn't feel comfortable driving it over the icy snowbank to park near our room (this snow bank was blocking the majority of the parking spots). Therefore, we had to walk across ice to get to our room. Almost all road not covered in snow had a thick layer of ice. Management: Not acceptable, you need to ensure the safety of your guests. My wife was being careful and she wore boots with a traction sole and she STILL SLIPPED ON YOUR PROPERTY! Her whole back and neck is hurting and you better hope it heals soon or you will be hearing from us. Flushing the toilet led to the toilet overflowing and flooding the bathroom and into the bedroom area so we had to change rooms. We were told that the manager had to come inspect the toilet first but then she never showed up. Thankfully we got to change rooms and thought we would be good to go.... not the case. Our room had a huge draft coming from under the door from outside. We woke up in the morning getting choked out by diesel since a truck was idling outside our door for a long time. The huge gap under the door along with the heater pulled in the diesel, our whole room was awful for a long time after that and we had to turn off the heater. Very very unpleased with management. read more

Motorcycling westbound from Salt Lake City on a very cold and windy day. Found the Big Chief Motel and was just hoping for a hot shower. Man this place was awesome! Such friendly staff and welcoming office. The owner greeted me with a smile and put me in a room right where I parked my bike. The room was clean - I mean even clean smelling. No old smoke smell or disinfectant smell, just nice and clean. And a really comfortable bed. In fact, the best bed I'd slept on in over a week. Owner pointed me to a great Mexican restaurant right down the street - homemade mole was just killer. Good brewed coffee in the morning along with pretty awesome waffles and other breakfast items - included in the price. Nice and tidy office/foyer too. All in all this place is a throwback gem and what a cool town too. You can tell the owners take pride in their place, the way it should be. Highly recommend and I'll be back. read more

Travelling from Portland to Phoenix, we were looking for a good sort of halfway point to stop for the night and the Big Chief Motel did not disappoint. Right off the freeway with a sparkling sign and ample parking, we were greeted and checked in quickly. (We did have a reservation) The room was clean and updated and the shower was hot with strong pressure. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we got a great nights sleep. Dont skip the free continental breakfast the next morning! The waffle machine is super easy to use and tastes delicious. read more

Our second time staying for multiple days in multiple rooms. We have been so pleased. The units are very clean and some units have been updated with stove tops and walk in showers. The pool was open and very clean as well. We took grandson and his dog. The Management is very accommodating as well. We will always stay here when in BattleMountain NV. read more

Writing this from the lobby/dining area of the motel - very nice. Internet is a little slow here, but was better in my room last night. Very decent coffee and continental breakfast this morning. Room was really good - clean, big comfortable bed, modern equipment - TV, bedding, thick towels, microwave, mini-fridge, etc. Great, friendly, knowledgeable staff/ownership - met last night and this morning. Recommended the Mexican restaurant, which turned out well last night. Only downer was the train tracks are just across the st. less than 100-150 years away.... and there seemed to be fast freight trains all night, every 1.5-3.5 hours. I noted them at 9:30pm, midnight, ~2am & 4 am. read more

Nice rooms. NO INTERNET WI-FI. At arrival the front desk said it should be back on soon. This morning the guy said "It's not our fault, they are working on the towers. It's their fault." Did not care that every billboard boasts free internet. All attitude, no obligation to customer. Plenty of other hotels in Battle mountain. read more

The word motel I feel like may make people hesitant to coming here.. DONT LET IT. The rooms at this place were clean and air conditioning worked great! We stayed at Big Chief Motel last night. The front desk lady in the evening was sweet, we got checked in quick. The exterior of Big chief does have a look of the motel, with small moderately heated pool. The interior of the hotel room was a pleasant surprise for us. Rooms are spacious, with clean and comfortable bed and pillows. Pillows were a win for me! The room came with mini fridge, microwave, iron box, hair dryer and toiletries. (Wondering why is it a 1 star hotel! - 5 stars for this motel) The best part of Big chief in my opinion was Diane, morning front desk lady. She is courteous, helpful, a delight. I felt at home having the complimentary breakfast while she checked on us if we are doing ok. I really appreciate her genuine warmth and the personal touch to the service she provides. read more

Nice rooms and very comfortable bedding, better than most hotels I've been to, including Wi-Fi and Direct Tv

This place was exactly what I needed on my long drive cross country. It is more in town than the other hotel but completely worth it. Guy who checked me in was very nice as I showed up without reservation and he got me checked right in. Room was good size, very clean, hot shower, and flat screen tv. Free wifi that was good speed. The breakfast is very simple with fresh English muffins, cereal, coffee/juice, fruit and a few packaged goods. They are pet friendly $5 per dog per night. In the rooms for dogs they have hard "wood" floors with big mats on them to not slip. I would 100% stay here again vs going to Elko where it's more expensive and crowded. Big Chiefs is great and for a great price too! read more

Rooms are clean, spacious, and affordable. Came here after a long road trip and I have no complaints. My room had hardwood floors, a clean bathroom and a stain free bed. I paid around $100 for the room and was pleasantly surprised with the quality. Staff is friendly and they have a free breakfast starting at 6am. read more

Immaculately clean, comfortable bed AND outstanding service. I have stayed at franchise properties for business many times over many years, avoiding the small places due to a lot of prior bad experience. The Big Chief is an example of what small "mom and pop" businesses should be. The owner took a lot of extra effort to help me after a bad experience up the road at a franchise. The room was quiet, very clean and the bed was great. The breakfast was also excellent. Don't let the "old school" look and feel fool you. This place is a great value and run by people with an outstanding work ethic. I would like another star to give. read more

This spot is a diamond In the rough. Of course a lot of people think motels are sketchy but I did not get this from this place. Very pleased with the service we received at the front desk , it was speedy and easy to check in with no reservation. We arrived about 10 and went right to our room, the mattress was the best , very comfortable, I think this room was just remodeled, with new mattress and upgraded bathroom, it had a larger fridge then other places I've seen. Very clean I'll come back again, we got two double beds for around a $100.00 ,very quiet place for a nice sleep read more

Admittedly, I am a business traveler with 200+ nights a year on the road. Most places I travel to are a little bigger, with a few more options than Battle Mountain. The hotel was okay. It sufficed. I got a place to rest for a night before I had to go to work and at a decent price. The wifi worked well. The room was quiet. Breakfast was very carb-centric but I understand - bread products are the least inexpensive things to offer. I didn't come for the food, it's okay. There's a small outside pool. I didn't use it. read more

My husband and I have stayed in hundreds of hotels (25 + years of touring...maybe thousands?) and this motel actually impressed us a lot. It's not often that EVER happens. You can tell that they care. The room was spotless. The bathroom spotless. The bed was comfortable and the towels were fluffy. The breakfast bar was immaculately clean and the options were many. If you're cruising through northern Nevada and you need a comfy place to sleep I highly recommend The Big Chief. read more

We broke our journey between Montana and California with a one-night stay at Big Chief Motel and, to be honest, did not expect a lot from it, but we were impressed. The room was clean and comfortable, but what blew us away was the breakfast. We arrived in the hotel's pleasant and spotlessly clean foyer the minute breakfast at 6am expecting the "continental breakfast" to consist of a plastic wrapped muffin and a dodgy cup of coffee. Instead, we were delighted to find a wide range of options including a waffle machine, toast, yogurt, eggs, fruit, cereals, juices, coffee and a range of teas. In addition, we enjoyed the company of the charming and very hardworking owner who was at the front desk having set up breakfast herself. read more

Very Nice for a Small Town a LONG Way from Anything We had no reason to visit Battle Mountain except it was in the right location at the right time for our travel needs. And it was a very pleasant experience. This is an old style mom-and-pop roadside motel, something fast disappearing except in these smaller towns. The management here does an excellent job keeping everything clean and up-to-date. The front desk clerks are nice. The continental breakfast was good. The whole place had a pleasant vibe and I would happily return (although I'm not sure when this Florida boy will be back in Battle Mountain, NV, anytime soon!) read more
