I work close by to Big Chicks on Monday nights. I was told by a local of Uptown of the $1 burger deals here! Walking in, you great typical dive bar vibes with a chill atmosphere. The beer prices were average but you can't beat the burger deals that comes with fries for a dollar. You can throw more dollars for additional like another patty or a pretzel bun. Not checking Yelp prior, i didn't know this was a gay bar. I was welcomed by the hospitality of the bartenders and servers with "babe". My friends and I came to Big Chicks to kiss my 20s goodbye on my 30th birthday. We walked in around 7pm, all in 20s attire and were immediately greeted like movie stars. Everyone was so nice! We had a few hours to hang out and drink before they turned the back room into a dance floor. Alex (aka The Ambassador) was the best! He brought us cake from Tweet, the restaurant next door, and then kept showering us with gifts (a cute mug from Tweet, some fun leftover hair pieces from Halloween and an adorable stuffed unicorn that I named after him!) The Ambassador also gave my friends and I a tour of the artwork around Big Chicks and explained the story behind the establishment. We all had a blast when the music finally got turned up! While the forties classic interior is very stately, it's not really a scene. On any given night, you'll see the bears and the twinks and the dykes and the daddies all cavorting and carousing. The bartenders make for friendly male eye-candy. There's even a small dance floor where you can boogie. The best part of the place is the incredible art collection which covers the walls. It's so impressive with Chicago native artists, city art tours have included this bar as destination on their itinerary. Plus, who doesn't like free shots at midnight? The bar has such a great space too with a couple of separate rooms, lots of seating and even an outdoor patio for the smokers...I don't smoke but it was nice having an area to go outside and get some air. The service was good once we found someone to seat us at a table. The bar was not busy (Sunday evening) and no one was available or watching the door for guests. (not welcoming) (F-). The Burgers were very good (B+) and so was the wine (A). My biggest issue, aside from no one at the door, were the restrooms. They were dirty, out of paper towels AND there were used paper towels all over the floor since the waste bid needs to be opened and people can't seem to figure that out. PLEASE PLEASE clean and maintain your restrooms. This does not reflect well on the bar/restaurant. So, in the future I might come here for a drink but I'm not sure I would want to eat here. The atmosphere is great. I loved that they were playing disco music! It was pretty busy so a little hard to get the bartends attention, but when you did it was worth the wait. He was very nice and attentive when he could be, im sure the regulars love him! I enjoyed that they had vegetarian, pescatarian, and meat options, really makes it easy for a group of friends with different dietary restrictions to still be able to enjoy a meal all together. My friends ordered the fish and chips (pretty sure the chips were made i house which were 10/10). The mozzarella sticks were good, and the artichoke quesadilla was yummy. There was a guy bothering my friends and I and the staff made sure to not allow it and kicked him out thankfully. We appreciated that they noticed. You gotta love a place that is called Big Chicks! I was here with the Yelp Beer Garden Club today and this place is everything that everyone said it was. What's not to like about a place that is welcoming to everyone and serves free hamburgers and hotdogs on Sunday. Mmmm. . my cheeseburger was delicious and don't skimp on the potato salad cuz it tastes like your mom made it!. They also have a great tossed salad with a wonderful vinaigrette dressing as well as a couple of different desserts- all for FREE as long as you buy a drink. Now where can you get a deal better than that? They also have $2.50 vodka and lemonade's and play some great tunes that have you dancing through the bar as you navigate the crowds! The place is packed with lots of cute gay guys, and we had an added bonus today insomuch that it was about 100 degrees out which meant the shirts were coming off the men in droves out in the beer garden. My uncle and his partner are always trying to get me to Big Chicks. I have been unreasonably stubborn about my reluctance. It's mostly because I would have to walk through "Crazytown" (what my husband and I call that area... why are there so many crazies around there?!) to get there. Well, last night was one of the uncles' birthday and they talked me into going. I can't say no to a birthday party. I brought some members of my gay crew in case it was awful and we had to bail to SoFo. I was surprised. I had fun! We got there early... 10:30 or so... and got some tables by the front window. It definitely got significantly more crowded by midnight and don't arrive at that time if you expect a table. The best part... I DIDN'T HAVE TO EVER WAIT IN A BATHROOM LINE. I like this place a lot as a no pretensions, no frills, local, casual type of bar. I've gone with friends, I've gone there on dates. It's absolutely a great place for a casual hang out. The food there, when it's Tweet, is also fantastic (just as an aside). One downside for me is that they're a cash only bar, and I tend to prefer to use my credit card these days. The other downside is that I feel there are a bunch of other places I would rather go that's just as far away from where I live and making the trip to Big Chicks usually isn't a priority in my mind. read more

The only "small" complaint is the Open Kitchen cook - Cashier. He was very unprofessional and unpleasant. He didn't bring enough plates for our table. When the entrees were ready, he literally threw food in front of us. With no silverware!!! He made no eye contact, very angry and never checked us. He charged for extra sour cream a dollar.. it was a little ketchup tub..crazy!! This is ridiculous. I understand that everyone have bad days, but every customer service employee needs to be pleasant and smiling at any moment in front of the customers. Customer service by him was below par. It was pretty good for a regular burger and it was $1...cant beat that! There seems to be 2 sides to this place as I had to order on the side opposite the bar and then come back to the bar to order a drink. They give you a number for your burger while you wait to avoid giving someone the wrong burger which is cool and makes sense. Full bar here and they have a decent beer selection. The bar itself is a little dark and has a TV that was playing an 80s Geena Davis movie and good music at the same time. Sunday nights between 4-6pm is free BBQ night. I did not even know this until my friend mentioned it to me. I had already ate but you know, I made room for some more food. On the website, it says that you have to purchase a drink which is really a no brainer coming to this bar, but just make sure to tip the guy serving the food. It was extremely busy at this place, but I imagine that many people were here for the free food. So the name of this place is named after the owner, who happens to be a "big chick." There is artwork adorned on the walls of this establishment filled with lots of women. This place has a rustic art deco look to it which is really nice. On one hand I have a general love for the sassy staff, fun music, cute patio and dancefloor but on the other hand the place can get SO EFFING PACKED and make it impossible for me to have a good time. I need my space! So I can bust a move! And I dont love the restroom situation: there's a small one in the very back of the bar for all you men but the ladies have to go outside to the patio and in through back door of the establishment next door to use their facilities. Not a huge deal, I know. Unless it's 12 degrees and I soaking wet with sweat and spilled beer. So if it's not exploding with people crammed into every inch, it's a good time. Friendly neighborhood bar..great drink specials and pretty good food. Love Buck Burger Mondays. Those grilled burgers are the best and it is hard not to have more than one at that price. Customers are pretty friendly and tend to just walk up and start talking to you. It's the kind of place that I love going to just to hang out when I need a break from working at home. IMO, it doesn't seem like they push the cakes and I have no idea why, but they are wonderful! Would give them 4 1/2 stars but can't. Dropped them 1/2 a star because while I love those Buck Burgers, they could give you a few more fries (which are nice, tasty and hot). They also do a nice brunch as well, but it does get crowded. It's been 2 days since I wandered inside and I'm still raving about Fat Girls. I came to Chicago to forget my break-up and after visiting what felt like every other bar in town we ended up at Fat Girls... err, uh... Big Chicks. Apparently Friday is 90's night and we danced to everthing from "MMMBop" to "Vogue." It was AMAZING and just what I needed. Trash from left to right. Front to back. Nothing but bodies and it felt like a sauna. My friend Candy was with me and someone gave us a heads up about a cleaner bathroom than the one we were waiting for. At first I wasn't sure how to take it. After I stepped inside the one he warned against I thanked him for the warning because it smelled like a sewer back-up and something so horrid she wouldn't even want to squat. Hell, I was standing and didn't even want to aim. Drinks were flowing and so were the pink shots. I'm pretty sure that's what caused my massive hangover the next day, but again, we went to what felt like every other bar in Chicago and I can't positively cast blame here. My first time there, I went with a couple girl friends and didn't enjoy the place too much... was kind of a random night, and it was empty. The bartender was a bit rude, they didn't/don't take credit card, and they made a really bad raspberry lemon drop martini. So, I vowed never go to back... ... Until last night. Two moves and two years later, I found myself at BC for their $1 burger night. How come I never knew about this?! It was pretty crowded by the time we arrived, and the wait for a burger was 40 minutes. CHEAP EATS? I'M THERE!! Oh, add $1 for cheese... It's true that you kind of get this melting pot of famished gays, but it's pretty cool - didn't get a pretentious vibe at all. We ended up making a new friend and we joined him at his table to enjoy our burger --- which was decent, can't complain for a $2 burger and it definitely beats crappy chain burgers (read: McDonalds down the street). Also, tried another raspberry lemondrop and it was better than I had remembered, a little messy on the rim... but... hey!
