I like this place in general - one part bar, one part dance floor, and attached to Tweet, their brunch counterpart. 4 stars because the music was quite unfun at times - it was 80s at first but then just random, unfamiliar and generic techno in between dance sets. I hear it's better when they have DJs. I love that they have cider and a great variety of craft beers for $5, maintaining a Chicago standard for beverages even as it feels like a regular, even dive bar. In terms of clientele - all gay, mostly boys, but sometimes FKA (Formerly Known As) has a night there which brings in a more diverse queer crowd. I felt pretty out of place as a lady-lovin' lady but I didn't come on a ladies' night, so I don't begrudge the place for that. read more

I've only been once on a Sunday evening but it was a great experience overall. They had gyros, falafel and fries for free with reasonably priced drinks. The atmospheres and clientele was interesting. The staff was all very friendly. The only real downfall was cash only and the bar area could use better lighting and layout. read more

Super-friendly neighborhood bar in Andersonville just off the Red Line, Argyle stop (even an out-of-towner like me found it easily.) We went on a Sunday and for the free buffet 4-6pm and $2.50 lemonades. It definitely gets crowded, but you can always hang out on the back patio if you need a little air. read more

Wow! What can I say about my favorite bar in Chicago! Good food, good drinks, great music and the bartenders are fantastic! This place has so much going for it. Go there on a Friday or Saturday night it is packed and the music is really good to dance to. Go on a Sunday for their free buffett and their drink specials of Vodka/Lemonades for $2.50, always a great crowd for that. Don't forget to try out their Monday night specials. $1 burger nights! For just $1 you get a choice of a burger or a veggie dog (for us vegetarians out there), and either a salad or fries! Really good food too! Definitely one of my all time favorite places to hang out for a few drinks and to see friends! Very laid back place, everyone seems to feel welcome. read more

Perhaps my post is premature, but after a day spent shopping and attending a seminar, I ended up popping by in my quest to find a reasonably local watering hole. I walked into a friendly bar where a euchre group was convening for some hot-and-heavy action involving the classic Midwestern card game, got well-served by a friendly barman, and wound up having an engaging conversation with a couple of the locals. One martini became three, and I left thinking that I'd found a lovely spot worth the trip. read more

Thursday night is a great party. Dancing, Cheap enough drinks ( the water was $2.75, watch out for that), a patio out back, cute gay people of all kinds, near enough to the train, i can actually get almost any of my friends here reguardless of orientation. It is packed, but there are several bathrooms and coatracks and I never have to wait too long for the bartenders attention. And they serve food until midnight. I this place!!! I love that on Mondays you can get a burger for a $1 with a side of fries or salad...or you can get a veggie hot dog (that would be me). It is an extra $1 for cheese, and this place has a big crowd for the number of tables. I thought they might cut people off at the door, but it is not so. If you want a table, go early. Big Chicks has been my favorite place forever (OK, 15 years). Seriously, I don't live in the neighborhood any more but I still try to go occasionally. Loved them before they had food, but their food is super-delish ($1 burgers AND $2 off pitchers on Mondays....it's packed for a reason). Staff, in general, couldn't be better (Stuart is likely the best bartender on earth....makes a mean drink, talks to you, always has a smile even when stressed). Crowd is random....young, old, gay, straight, all ethnicities (though Friday night can be a bit Roscoe's-ish). Sunday afternoons are the shizzzz.......cute boys, free BBQ, it's just fun. I wish I lived closer (though I'm grateful at times that I don't...I spent every night there for at least 5 years). read more

I've been going to Big Chicks for drinks and/or food at least a couple times per week for a few years now. It is great having Big Chicks so close to my condo in Edgewater. Some reasons why I love Big Chicks: - Tasty food! - Clean kitchen (I've never gotten sick from eating at Big Chicks. Can't say that about some other places in the neighborhood -- Yes, Hamburger Mary's, I'm looking at YOU!) - Very Economical prices! Food and drinks are very reasonable. The specials are really a great deal. Try the chicken quesadillas on Wednesdays! Delicious! - Great staff and bartenders! Love you Stewart, Andy, Daniel, et all! - Euchre nights twice a week! I live right around the corner and have definitely become a regular :) I love love love it here, best staff in the world. This is my neighborhood spot. It doesn't get any better than this when it comes to a great spot to unwind with a few drinks after work. They pour well and the drinks are cheap. There are nightly food specials as well. The people are really nice and doesn't have the pretentiousness of many other places that are a bit further south. Big Chicks is a nice little bar far from Boystown. Staff is always friendly and make some nice drinks. Clientele ranges from lesbians to twinks. Really nice to go for a drink during the week when it's not busy, or to go dancing on a weekend. Food is really good and sometimes have some nice specials. read more

I'm in from out of town and this spot had great reviews on Yelp, so I was looking forward to checking it out. I was encouraged by the number of lesbians in the photos from the bar, but when I arrived I was treated like a red headed step child. A bartender asked if I needed an alcohol or food menu, and when I answered both, he curiously informed me that he only had a food menu. Know what else? Apparently the food and alcohol are not served in the same place either, so you can't eat at the bar. That's odd, but ok, just don't quip to me, "oh you gotta go over there for that" or something to that effect. The second bartender spent most of his time at the other end of the bar encouraging someone to grab a nipple. And when I ordered a drink, I tried to say "thank you" but the bartender interrupted me at "tha.." and said "eight dollars." These boys only seem at home with other men. They were having a very involved conversation with boys at the bar when while they hadn't even been even been courteous to me. I don't feel welcome and I won't be back. Find a different hangout my lesbian friends. This one ain't for us. They got 2 stars instead on 1 for the excellent tater tots though! read more

Like most people, I thought this was a bar for the ladies, but apparently it is not. It is a bar for the boys, the men and a few women too. Strong drinkies are always welcome. Bartenders who buy shots are even more welcome. The loos are a little gross and the floor is probably dirty but this semi-dive bar with a dance floor and excellent music is quite the riot! Normally I don't feel a need to count change when it's given to me, but I had a funny feeling, and so I checked and lucky that I did.
