There is sooo much to do here. The lake, marina has pontoon boats. Swimming, canoe, kayak, paddleboards, paddle boats, obstacle course, a long "rock" (concrete) slide. We saw a huge snapping turtle while canoeing! The outdoor pool, very large, with tons of chaises, a indoor grill, bathrooms, clubhouse, several outdoor tables and benches. Indoor lap pool and fitness center with lots of artwork for sale. At The Clubhouse, several options for meals, including the Bear Paw Pub. Soccer, tennis, bocce ball, golf, fishing, pretty sure I'm forgetting some. Several hiking and walking trails, one has a waterfall payout. The only thing lacking is better signage. The maps are awful and the only sign for the pools, lake, etc is when you are there! Lol!

A man-made community in the mountains.. it's what you would want a retreat from the city to be: quiet, beautiful, secluded. This place is less than 2 hours from Atlanta. I brought anti-nausea medicine, expecting the road up to be windy. It wasn't as windy as I expected. The community in the mountains itself was more windy than the drive. There are several entrances. One must be a homeowner or guest to be able to enter the gates. Ask for a map as the community is large! I stayed in the treetopper "neighborhood" within the community. This involved a scenic drive past the marina, park, and golf-course. I saw signs for a park, dog park, hiking trail. One can park near the lake and sit on one of many benches. This is in a great location, close to Dahlonega, Amicalola Falls, Jasper, etc. There is at least one restaurant one site but there are several good restaurants nearby as well. I highly recommend this for a mountain getaway.

As a Big Canoe resident, Big Canoe truly has it all!. From trails, lakes, and streams to golf, tennis, and fishing, there's plenty to explore and enjoy within our gates. And as a 30 year old growing community, Big Canoe also has more than 50 social clubs and a calendar packed with events, performances, and festivals year round!.

    Treetopper rental - loved it!

We spent the weekend here for a wedding. The venue was beautiful. The ceremony was held on the patio overlooking the lake, and it was a wonderful view. The building itself was a bit on the smaller side, but it was cute. There are various cabins, homes, and treetoppers for rent. We stayed in the latter, and we loved it! There's kayaking, canoeing, and other water sports available. This is more for relaxation, so I'm not sure how fun it would be for a family with younger children. The are minimal restaurants around so we had to improvise. We would definitely consider coming back.

Nestled…read morebetween Jasper and Tate, just past the end of 575, you'll find plenty of green space for a day in the park. Diamonds and soccer fields stay busy with rec league teams, with the occasional cross country meet, including twice in fall. These races have been our reason to visit the past several years, and we've witnessed the positive evolution of the space in that time. A large playground area will keep the younger participants happy, with colorful barriers surrounding to increase the safety and fun factors. Watch out for flying round projectiles from the games surrounding on all sides though. Grab time with the orange roundball on outdoor courts or in the Pickens County Community Center adjacent, then cool off in the outdoor pool in warm seasons. Run/walk/jog on the 1-2 miles of winding paths throughout the park, and follow the exercise signs along the way for a little cross-training. Take a thoughtful break at the Peace Pole monument courtesy of the Rotary Club of Jasper, then move on to percussion with the musical feature nearby. Plenty of parking at the community center and along the back of the park, and on race weekends at the school across the street. Don't miss the infamous tunnel on your way across the highway, taking care since it's part of the 5K course. I'll be back at least once more for another late-season race, and hopefully after that.

This park has tons of amenities, but the real hidden gem is the free run club every Tuesday at 7PM by the track. There is a nice skate and bike park there as well. Got to see several deer along the trail as well. I like how much nature this park has, many deers roam in the park. Dog must be leashed as there is wildlife present. Multiple picnic areas that varies in size. Four picnic pavilions that can be reserved, ample free parking but there is no shade on slides and swings. Play ground for kids and lots of space for different age groups to meet and do some fun activities. Well worth a visit any time of the year. If you are out this way definitely check it out.

If you're nervous, concerned, or even jaded about what kind of real help you can get in a public mental health capacity, I'm letting you know these people are kind, professional, and extremely good at their obviously sensitive and challenging jobs. My prescriber and counselor have humor, common sense, expertise, and compassion! I know they see me as a human struggling to find my best self again, and they put genuine care and intelligent detail into every meeting. I have been to other public counseling places in different areas of Georgia, and I was so uncomfortable with the setting and lack of compassion that I just never stuck with it. Please give yourself a chance to process and heal your troubles and difficulties with these wonderful professionals. They GET IT. When you walk in, the front desk is nice and helpful. They will work with you right there to get your scheduling and questions done! Next, when you go for your paperwork to start in Avida, the woman is a literal sparkling earth angel and you cannot convince me otherwise. You will feel healing begin just by going in there and starting to get your health needs addressed. My counselor is savvy, personable, genuine, caring and easy to talk to and take helpful tips from. I love the balance of flow during our sessions, and always leave feeling heard, validated, and stronger on my way! My prescriber is so sharp and on the ball that 1st session, she was able to successfully pinpoint my most urgent symptoms diagnostic root cause and treat it with new medicine! She checks in routinely and regularly so my meds remain effective as I go. This is HUGE. For all the scary medicine and bad service stories on the internet, mine today is this: Avida is a quite literal lifesaver, and they're doing it SO WELL. I followed my prescribers directions exactly, and am titrated off my old med and now onto the new by itself. It is working!! I'm feeling improvements daily! Please don't be afraid to seek care, here or anywhere you feel okay going. But my experience here is the best care I have ever had in the mental health field. Thank you, Avida good humans!
