I've been coming to Big Break for 4 months now and I absolutely love it. I'd always wanted to join a jiu jitsu gym but had been hesitant due to cost, schedule and just overall vibe from the teachers and students. Since my introductory session with David I felt like I was at home. After my first class I got the sense of camaraderie with my new classmates. The instruction is top notch. David and Sam break every lesson down so even those who aren't as athletically gifted can understand and replicate. The cost of training is extremely reasonable. I'm from the South Bay originally and memberships can cost $250 plus for unlimited classes. When you join Big Break you can go to all the classes here and even attend affiliate gyms which I believe there are 4 or 5 others at no additions cost. Overall 5/5 stars easily. The instructors, David & Sam are friendly, funny, and know what they're doing (as their wall of medals prove.) I've had terrible balance all my life & I can already feel major improvement in the short time I've been going. On Saturdays I catch the tail end of one of the kids classes & let me tell you, if eight year old me had as much fun in Karate as these kids do here, I'd be Mr. Miyagi by now. At the time of me writing this there's still a deal ongoing; $85 for 6 weeks of unlimited. That means come in anytime for a jiujitsu class, & the strength & conditioning class for 6 weeks, no contract needed. Met David the head instructor and owner at Big Break while training at a different academy. So when he decided to start his own academy I immediately switch. I felt his style, approach, and philosophies were that of my interest. His demeanor and style of teaching fit into what I felt was best for myself and kids. His background of being a teacher and being able to relate to children has giving my kids a better understanding of the art. I wish we could have done a trial run. To have paid the initiation fee the first month and the price of a gi to then be kicked out with zero communication. When I got the termination email it did state they had to speak to my son multiple times at the lesson but I was never contacted before this day. I asked after going a handful of times if I could drop off so that I could get my other son to football and was told "oh we encourage it, go to Starbucks" I would have appreciate being told there might be a problem so that I could have stayed and made sure all was well. My son would come out from class so happy and couldn't wait to share what he had learned. Ultimately our hope was that our son would learn about responsibility of his actions and respect. If you are looking for help with your child and they are not perfect this is not the place for you. As a parent of this community I would not recommend this place. I did give two stars because initially signing up was great, David was very nice to myself and my son. And I can not say that that was the case just a few weeks later. read more

I've been training here for a few months and I love it. I had a brief introduction to Jiu Jitsu last year but started here very much a beginner. I've learned so much and feel so much more confident grappling than when I first started, I'm excited to keep training. The other people that started around when I did say they feel the same, and it's fun to roll and see how we've all improved. We always have fun, we're always learning new things, and we're always getting better. The classes are scheduled so everyone can make it and there's multiple kids classes. Sometimes I get there early and watch the kids class and they have a blast. If you have kids, I highly recommend you sign them up! It's such a great thing to learn and this is a great place to learn it.
