Team Dumdumaya - Muay Thai Near Me - Antioch, California

I've been training with Team Dumdumaya since the summer of 2015. Before Andre welcomed me into his space, I was a wanderer who didn't really have a home gym. I trained everywhere, but called no place home. I originally started at Cesar's in Pleasant Hill, same as Andre. Andre is the first coach I've ever had who invested in me and actually cared about my Jiu Jitsu journey. He didn't see me as some dumb girl on the mat, but a valuable training partner. And he treated me that way. Being a woman coming up in this sport is different and I've most often been looked at as not a worthwhile training partner. But not with Andre. I've learned more from him than any coach I've ever trained under. He's a great coach and a good man. He has excellent leadership, coaching, and teaching sense. He breaks down the technique in a clear and straightforward way to make it simple to learn and then execute. The school is laid back and without ego but that doesn't mean we don't train hard. The team has something for most everyone. Andre's hired great coaches under him- fellow black belts James Carlson, Richie Storelee, and his son Cyrus Dumdumaya. There's adult coed Jiu Jitsu classes and women's and children's Jiu Jitsu classes, plus Muy Thai and MMA classes. My whole family trains here. I'm proud to say both my 14 year old daughter and 9 year old son started here and have grown in confidence and technique with Andre and then Gabe and now Cyrus as their coaches. My husband joined the team a year or so after we got married in 2018 and brought his son as well. The place is super family-oriented. Multiple families from grandparents on down to grandkids train there. All in all, it's a great place to train. I call it home. Come check it out, the first class is always free. read more

My husband has wanted our youngest to try jiu jitsu for a while. In asking around I heard great things about Our House Gym and contacted one of the owners to find out more information. She was super helpful and allowed my son to do a trial class. He was SUPER nervous but the coach made him feel very welcome and reassured him consistently. My son was hooked by the end of the class. He's been here now for just over a month and looks forward to it every class day. Their coach has a unique ability in that he manages to be friendly and approachable while also demanding respect and attention from his students. He is a GREAT teacher. My son has really taken to him. I'm so thankful to have found such an amazing place for my son. read more

I been training here for a little over 3 years now. I've trained at many local jiujitsu gyms and this place is like no other, by focusing on building a strong foundation through the fundamentals. Jiujitsu is always expanding and building, with that being said it's easy to get lost in all the fancy moves these days but with the coaching, they always come back to the basics and fundamentals which is the most important. They have kids and adult classes so the whole family can get involved. Team Dumdumaya offers Muay Thai and Wrestling to make sure your game is well rounded. Great place to challenge yourself. read more

My two sons have attended Team Dumdumaya. My youngest started when he was 11 years old. He is now 15. This a very good safe place. All the instructors really care about all the children learning JiuJitsu and discipline. They take the time to work with every child learning needs. I am very happy with how my son had developed his skills. read more

I've been training in jiu jitsu under Andre for almost two years and he's a phenomenal coach. I love the atmosphere here, it's kept me motivated to work hard and put more of myself into everything I do. The gym is family owned and run, I think that's why the team itself is a family. This team is made up of the salt of the earth kind of people. We have every background and we're all equal on the mat, we can all learn from each other. Our ranks matter when it comes to the traditions and respect but if you're authentic and want to learn jiu jitsu, you're welcomed wholeheartedly - no gym can beat this one. read more

I have been training here a little over a year and love it. Both my kids also train here and both the kids and adults classes are excellent. I have had my son at 2 other places and this is by far my favorite. The coaches are knowledgeable and approachable which makes asking questions easier and enhances the learning experience. I highly recommend you give it a try. They offer trail classes as well as open mat on Saturdays. read more

I've only been taking my daughter here a couple weeks now, after we removed her from a well known school in Brentwood, and I have to say she has gotten her passion back for training. She's remembering techniques she had forgotten and has actually learned more in the last 2 weeks, than she did in the 10 months, at the other school. These guys are a few bucks more, but not overpriced and we'll worth it so far. The kids actually have time to train and it's more like her original school in Rancho Cordova. Where the actually care more about training and teaching proper techniques and less about their belting up program and money. It's nice to see my daughter looking forward to going to class again rather than dreading it. Just know this program is tough and they push your kids not coddle them. They learn discipline and how to work hard, not how to go through the motions to get rewarded. With that said these guys really seem to care. Just wish they had more classes through out the week. read more
