Classes are small, there are five babies in the one we attend, and the instructor is fantastic. She engages the babies really well and uses song and movement to get them used to the water. She builds on the natural reflexes they have to help them swim and it's amazing to see the babies who are 5 and 6 months old and have attended before, kicking away and even swimming to the surface after a dunking. I also believe it's the best value for money in baby swim classes offered in Edinburgh which is always a plus!

There's the "big pool", the little pool and a Jacuzzi too if you're feeling a little chilli, they even have a little shoot for the daredevils. They hold various classes here, swimming lessons for all ages, ladies only classes and water aerobics. During these times the pool is usually only open to people taking part in the classes therefore it's best to check the website beforehand to avoid disappointment. During the summer holidays it's probably best to go early in the morning as during the day it's usually choc-a-block as children under the age of 16 get to swim for free during school break.

If you have an East Renfrewshire Council Access All Areas card (library card) you get a discount on entry or any if the PAYG monthly memberships. The swimming pool varies between a pleasure and a torture. I've given up trying to do a decent number of lengths in a decent time as the only time the pool is open that I can attend are immediately after work or Saturday morning. There are always swimming lessons on during the week (group taking up 2 lanes, individual ones across the pool) and on a Saturday morning it's mobbed with pensioners who want to stand in the middle of the pool and talk rather than swim. The main pool will become busier and busier due to recent manpower cuts closing the kids/learning pool at peak times. The changing facilities are good and secure. Lockers mostly work with the obligatory dodgy 2 or 3. Mothers of kids learning to swim tend to occupy entire swathes of cubicles closer to the pool and the pool side showers which can be a bit intimidating as a single bloke. I use the health suite more than the pool and it's of a decent standard. The sauna has recently been refurbished and looks good. The steam room seems to need almost constant maintenance and every once in a while the forget to switch it on. No compensation for lost days either! I've never used the gym but it looks busy and I hear there are plans to expand it but God only knows where! There are often running and cycling classes taken place in and around the leisure centre. All-in-all it's ok but needs improvement.

I tried this gym with a daypass and forgot to bring swimming gear, so the review is mostly of the gym space. Let's start with the good and okay: the gym floor is huge and open and they've filled it with a very diverse set of equipment. The free weights area is large and though I'd have liked more squat racks, at least they have dedicated bench press racks to avoid double duty. They also have a "platform" for deadlifts and Olympic lifts, though that area is small and the platform units feel flimsy and not very solid or flat and the plates are mostly not "Olympic size" which means you HAVE to use the 20s to get a decent height of the bar for deadlifts. They have a great bunch of functional gear, but it's all spread out across the gym floor which means it can be annoying to try to set yourself up for a good HiiT session, but I was able to improvise and do a good one anyway. Big fan of the tyre, more like that please! The upcoming remodel and kit upgrade looks amazing from their info videos, and I would have loved to try it out once that's all in place! Now, here comes my soapbox: I am trans, genderqueer to be precise. I don't feel fully comfortable in men's changing rooms any longer, and prefer ungendered spaces. Puregym Waterfront, where I work as a PT, have two accessible shower rooms that are not connected to the gendered changing rooms and are open for trans members to use. At Nuffield, I am completely without this option. They have cubicles to change in and the showers are opaque stalls, but I'm sure you can see how that's by no means a sufficient solution for many non-binary people or trans folk who have not completed a transition. The staff seemed sympathetic to my situation, but there was little they could do to really help me here, so trans folk should be aware before they come. If it wasn't for this issue, I'd have been happy to recommend Nuffield as a gym, and I'd have been happy to work there as well. As it is, I will not consider joining as a member or otherwise as long as the changing room situation remains as is.

I've had three previous instructors.....two of which were awful....unfriendly, overly critical and poor standard lessons. Pat was just the opposite. Friendly and put me at my ease straight away as at 28 and putting off lessons after previous bad experiences it was difficult getting behind the wheel again. He was always super organised and prepared and even took notes on our lessons. He was very flexible and reliable. I passed first time too. Highly recommended.

I had been learning to drive before I moved and wanted a school to get me to test. After looking around I came to The Driving Training Centre based on the reviews I had read. Must say, am glad I did. Unlike my last driving school, these guys are professional, reliable and patient. My instructor helped me focus and I found his explanation easy to understand. My advice, learning to drive, use these guys they are years ahead of the competition. Thanks DTC for all your help.
