They have excellent facilities which includes a floodlit football pitch and a library within the school. It is now safer for the children to get to school as some of the local children had to cross 2 busy main roads which was a real hazard. The building is now a state of the art facility. It is good in the sense that all the children can mix together at break times. The downside for me is that it now houses 2 schools with 2 seperate entrances. Why did the local authority just not mix the 2 schools together??

the best school in the area and recently highlighted to be one of ther best in scotland after…read morepassing the HM inspection with flying colours gaining 3 excellents and 2 very goods regarding the education of children. there is a good relationship between teachers ,pupils and other staff within the school, and there is also loads of after school activities including rugby, football , basket ball. they take the kids to days out after school to plays like laser quest and to the theatre. the also have an annual choral shield held in motherwell civic centre , this is always a sellout as the pupils work really hard to put on a show for their familys and visitors , there are 3 houses in dalziel, colville, barclay and grieg, and they all have a different theme at the show with the winner lifting the cup for that year. mr miller the head teacher has worked hard over his many years here to improve the school and going by the academic report published he has succeeded.

just recently got a new head teacher mrs sheridan, who took over after mrs dickson retired, a…read morefriendly little school but has the usual problems with bullys,although mrs sheridan seems to be a lot firmer with this . clean school which promotes healthy eating and trys to bring out the best in pupils, they have a different class assemblysover the course of the year and they also put on a xmas and summer show which is also very well receieved in the area , both of them are usually sell outs . the pupils try very hard in these shows and the primary 1s are always amazing to watch and very funny. they have a low turnover of staff as most of the teachers have been here for years, so they must enjoy it

Whitburn Academy is a six-year comprehensive, non-denominational school. The school building opened…read moreoriginally in 1967 and was extensively refurbished and upgraded in 2001/2. It now provides excellent modern educational facilities for pupils from Whitburn and surrounding villages. There are 4 language laboratories ,6 Computing/Business Education Classrooms and 2 IT suites. There are now 10 Science labs,5 Craft & Design labs, 4 Home Economics Rooms, 4 Music Classrooms and 4 Music Tuition Rooms. There is also 1 Gymnasia,1 Games Hall,1 Conditioning Room plus 1 Dance Studio. Also an all weather pitch and changing pavilion plus a Swimming pool. My three children attended this school and all achieved good qualifications. Some of the staff have been there for a long time and this is good when you go to parent nights as they know you and you feel more comfortable discussing your childs education. The Academy is an important part of the community, used for Pantomimes and other shows, the starting point for the yearly gala day and of course it's most recent claim to fame was when local boy, Leon returned after winning X factor!

Classes are open plan which works supprisingly well they also have chill out rooms for any children who for whatever reason may need a break every now and then. Lots of things going on at the school very much a part of the local community. The school also encourages the kids to take responsibility for their own behaviour
