The Patrons' Dinner takes place on Friday, 30 September at the First Southern State Bank Community Room (20 Micah Way, Scottsboro), at a cost of $40, with reservations required. The Festival and Games will take place from 9:00 a.m. to about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and are held at the 1,500-seat Amphitheatre, all the way down the peninsula past the golf course and marina...it's basically the last structure on EH Drive and on the right). For a mere $7.00 per adult, or $3.00 for bratlings, you can watch the caber tossing and quickly race out of the caber's way; gawk at various clan tents; check out the items for sale, including weaponry (careful, lest you get kilt); savor anything from bridies to, if you're brave, haggis; and perhaps even hobnob with a Scottish Terrier or two. And they don't talk to just anybody. There's always plenty to eat and, weather permitting, plenty to DO. In addition to the aforementioned foods, try a delish Scotch egg...but they go QUICKLY, so hurry!...or a meat pie. You might try hitting them up with a bit of HP Sauce. A great experience for families or groups of friends, bagpipers or not.

This was my first year attending the Crush Food and Wine Festival. It's a great festival, but it's…read morenot open long enough. The general admission opens at 3 and the festival closes at 6. There isn't enough food. There were 3 food trucks, while they are great trucks, I was hoping for more food. Publix led the way with snacks and water. Lots of wine tents but the lines are long so 3 Hours just isn't enough to see everything without feeling rushed. Some tents give generous pours, other do not. I will definitely recommend and go again, but they should make it longer and put more food into the "food" and wine festival. Lots of great photo ops and freebies around from the vendors. They also had excellent live music! I was impressed by that.

Updated review... Loooong lines!…read more Did I mention looooong lines?! Indeed, that is what you'll see and experience like we did today. So have a plan next year and be sure your phone is juiced up. We split up into different lines and updated each other when certain booths ran out of wings. Sadly, most did. And if you were one w patience, you waited until they eventually replenished them after some time. Some vendors didn't. :( That was frustrating especially when we've been waiting for some time under the hot sun (happened at least twice to us, more w others). So some of the vendors actually started giving out pieces of cheese pizza instead of wings. And if you were smart, you traded 8 stamps for a whole cheese pizza vs risking standing in long lines only to learn half way up that they ran out... again. Will we do it again next year? Hmmmm?!?! Donate to the cause - indeed! Wait in long lines under the hot sun for subpar wings and cold pizza - uhhh, maybe not. After a while, the wings all seemed to taste the same. But I'm guessing they're better served in their restaurants than how they were served today. But who am I to complain? Our tickets were significantly discounted. 8P Weather was nice, sunny and tolerable. Street parking was free ($5 in the nearby garage). Seeing friends, co-workers, familiar faces and benefiting a worthy cause was a plus too. :) We'll see about next year. ///Original review/// Right off the bat- Battle of the Buffalo is a benefit fundraiser held in honor of Paul Michael Salmon (aka Fish) who died of leukemia in March 1, 2007. The brothers at ATO (Alpha Tau Omega) of UAHuntsville started this annual event to benefit the local Russel Hill Cancer Foundation. What you'll find there are local restaurants grilling up their best chicken wings for y'alls to taste, a contest for you wing eating lovas, local musicians for entertainment, as well as fun activities and a kid zone for the small ones. The event is today - April 12th from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Big Spring Park located in Downtown Huntsville (514 Clinton Avenue West, Huntsville, AL 35801). Tickets can be bought online or at the event for $15 each. Packages available, too. Some local companies offered advanced ticket purchases at a significantly reduced price ($5/employee, $8/family member). Something to plan for next year, right?! Each ticket is worth 20 wings and 3 drink refills. So put away your boots and throw on your flip flops (and maybe a bib) and head on down to the park for some wings!

This seems like a newer event to the area. It's located down at Ditto Landing. Look for the signs…read morethat say "Christmas on the River." There is a really nice walking path along the River and they have lights down the path and large "Christmas Cards" along the path made by local businesses. They have musicians on certain days singing Christmas music. We came the night of Dec 7th, for the fireworks. They have fireworks again Dec 21st. There was a food truck serving hibachi. But I feel like this was a missed opportunity for a hot cocoa vendor. On a good night, there is nothing like hot cocoa as you walk and enjoy Christmas festivities. However, this got us out of the house and it was peaceful and felt very safe.
