If your looking for a good family practice dr look no further!!!…read more I have been coming here for a couple years now and I couldn't be happier!! Granted I don't actually get seen by Dr. Paley, but nowadays thats how most practices are you only see the nurse practitioner unless you specifiy that you want to see the Dr. But the nurse practitioner wendy is just as good. She is getting my health back on track since I've been coming here and she genuinely cares for her patients. The office staff is always courteous and helpful everytime I call or need to reschudle, or if I owe a balance they are very easy to work with. If you love dogs, so does the staff lol. It's always nice to see the Dr's golden retriever and poodle walking around the office and come up to you to get some loving. I definitely recommend coming here for you primary care.

Upon arrival I was greeted and handed the patient paperwork in a prompt manner. The wait was about 30 minutes. So not terrible, and the waiting area had a beautiful big fish tank and peaceful feel to the atmosphere. The lady who did my blood work was a pro for sure. I have very small veins, and I'm always scared I'm gonna get poked up and leave looking like a Michael Myers victim. But she did it on the first try and with very little pain. Anytime I had questions about procedures I was given detailed answers and handed a booklet with even more info as well. They are very friendly and very thorough here, and I left feeling well educated and in good hands.

She was refused service for arriving TWO minutes past "cut-off" time, despite having attempted to call and notify the office multiple times that she would be late due to unexpected construction/traffic (she was only able to leave a message, which they ignored). The receptionist and head nurse were rude and even laughed at my mother's situation. The other two receptionists were blithely talking on what appeared to be personal calls. There was only one family in the waiting room. DO NOT see this practice if you are looking for a professional, caring medical staff. My mother has lived in San Antonio for 31 years and has never experienced this kind of a horrific experience. I am praying that she gets the medical help she needs, since now she can't find anybody who will see her before the New Year. What a travesty and a disgrace. Beware.

Let me preface this review by stating that my experience with my doctor and nurses has been nothing…read morebut positive. 3 stars for that. The front desk staff, on the other hand, have been consistently rude, as if speaking with any of the patients is a huge inconvenience to their daily activities. I DREAD office visits and calling to make appointments/have prescriptions refilled. An example: after being on hold for 15 minutes, I was given no other option than to leave a voicemail for a nurse to have my question answered. (I was calling to check whether she had received my previous voicemail.) The "not recommended" reviews are undoubtedly overly emotional, but they are accurate regarding the remarks about front desk staff. Healthcare is becoming more and more of a business (it is evident this office is organized for profit) and being such, as a customer (patient!), it would be nice to be treated with a minimal level of courteousness and respect.

Even for a basic office visit you may be waiting 2 hours after your appointment time to be seen by a provider. Test result follow-ups are very slow, even after they show up on the patient portal. Providers are also slow to write orders when test results are alarming to the patient. Dr. Coutinho used to be great but if you go here now odds are you will just see one of his PAs rather than the Dr. himself. I have nothing against PAs but the care here is simply not up to standard.

I used "Dr Jimmy" for years. He was recommended to me by my boss when I transferred back to San…read moreAntonio about 2005. Full disclosure: I knew him vaguely on a personal level because we were a few years apart in high school and lived in the same neighborhood. But family health is family health- not a high scroll reunion. He was the best Primary Care I ever had. Hands down. My wife will tell you the same. Nobody else has even been close. I too recommended him to several coworkers. They all loved him. Unfortunately, with the insurance turmoil, he is no longer in my system. But I can say this without hyperbole. I am alive today in part because of Dr Jimmy. Dr Jimmy was the first to suspect my cancer despite both a VA and an FAA physical that proceeded his. I had the same complaint on symptoms in each of those. He sent me to a specialist I'd never seen before who saw me THAT DAY. He and the specialist conference called me that night at 8:30p. It was Christmas week and the specialist was leaving on a family vacation the next day. My suspected cancer was not in either his or Dr Jimmy's specialty. But they were concerned and took part of their personal time away from their families during Christmas vacation to ensure I immediately sought out a blood cancer specialist. That was 2010 and I am still here. The experience taught me that a good primary care physician who cares can be critical to getting you the proper help I critical times, not just nursing you through the flu. The staff is efficient. They are friendly, but insurance companies have rules. If you get their a little early to ensure the paperwork is ready, you will almost always be seen on time. Think about it. Why do you wait at other offices? Because you get there at 9am for a 9am appointment and THEN fill out the paperwork-- and wait. Baros &Baros has a system where the paperwork is in the nurses hand for her planning before your appointment. The nurse has read your notes BEFORE entering the room and Dr Jimmy has read her notes before walking in the room a few minutes later. So they both walk in well informed. None of this- "So What seems to be the problem today". They immediately focus on your submitted symptoms and ask questions needed to fill in the holes to get a diagnosis. Since when is that a bad thing? They are friendly, and laugh easily, but the process is front loaded for efficiency so that if your appointment requires something extra, they are not fighting the insurance company's time tables. When you need extra time, you will get it. That has happened to me many times. But insurance companies drive the time table. If your appointment is at 11a and you have submitted the paperwork for the nurse to read in a reasonable time, you will probably get seen at 11a. But your treatment starts when you submit your paperwork at the window.

Ms. Fernandez, NP, is great to work with as well, and I really enjoy exchanging ideas with her as to how to better manage my diabetes. This gives me a chance to discuss my latest lab results, how I have felt since the last appointment, and any other issues I feel are pertinent to my ongoing diabetic care. At one point Dr. Cruz was in practice with another doctor in the same office, and it was chaotic at times.
