I've lived in my apartment for 5 years. In that time the elevator has broke down more than a dozen times, usually for a couple days. This time the elevator has been broke for more than 3 weeks. Last week I couldn't use my kitchen sink for 3 days. Bieck says the elevator is out of their control. Who has control if not the people who collect the rent every month. Last time the elevator(a couple months ago) went out I was told if I didn't like it I could move. My son who has MS lives on the 5th floor and walks with a cane. He is having a very hard time doing stairs. Myself, I'm a senior and live on the 9th floor. Laundry is near impossible and grocery shopping is impossible because we can't carry groceries up 5 and 9 flights of stairs. I have been late with my rent a few times in 5 years, but I am a good tenant. I feel we should get a rent credit for putting up with all this because it really is out of our control. read more

I applied for a unit by Beick Management and was not happy with the experience at all. They only offer 1 year contract which is more than I needed although the unit was very close to my working place. I offered to sign a 6 month contract but got rejected. Then I offered to sign a 1-year contract and sublease it for the extra few months but they management office showed little flexibility to consider my situation and did not provide any solution for the issue. I scheduled a tour with bieck management through one of their property managers. I got to the tour early only to find that I had been scheduled with another person. Imagine my surprise when I called said property manager and it took me to a google voicemail! Even better when I called the management office, and they told me the apartment was no longer available, it had already been rented (yesterday when I in fact had made the tour yesterday late afternoon!) and that the property manager got stuck at his second job. Horribly lazy property management. Moved out and they couldn't even be bothered to check the apartment to give me my security deposit back. Always tried to call my property manager, Becky, and she was of no use. Lazy as can be and always conveniently "out of the office at this time". Becky never calls back, only responds to emails if you send multiple emails and then gives attitudes in her few responses. The maintenance man in the property I lived in repeatedly smoked cigarettes in the entry way of the hallway and constantly mouthed off to tenants. Our company has a suite in a Bieck owned property and this is by far the worst building management company I've ever had the displeasure to deal with. Building cleanliness. The bathrooms reek of urine, and rarely gets cleaned. The office only gets vacuumed once a week. No security. Our neighbors in the next building were robbed one night, and the only reason we found out about it was because the police officers were asking questions the next morning. No notice of construction/repairs. Loud construction is done without any notice, and it's so loud that it's impossible to work, or speak to clients over a teleconference. So, here's some context. Roof repairs started on a Friday morning, and went into the afternoon and continued on after we left for the weekend at 5PM. I come in on Monday and they continue repairs, which is louder than Friday. It turns out that none of the repairs was done during the weekend. I called in and spoke to the unsympathetic receptionist that told me "It's better than having the roof leak.", or "There was a major issue with the roof leaking.".... Yeah it was so major that it didn't warrant being finished during the weekend. The management team is lazy, and apathetic. Their attitude couldn't be worse. I've lived in an apartment building managed by Bieck for the last 3 years, and have had an overall good experience. The building itself is beautiful and in a prime location. At the time I was looking, I checked out all other three bedrooms in the area and all were at least $200 more per month, had less square footage and were in a worse location. Therefore I feel Bieck's prices are very reasonable. Also, since I have lived here my rent has not changed despite that I know they upped the rent by $50 a month for new tenets. It makes me feel appreciated by my management company, $50 a month appreciated. I agree with the complaint of the above reviewer: that Bieck's issue is their managers are not as well trained or responsive as they ought to be--at least not in my building. But this is not necessarily a bad thing. Think of it this way, the only thing better than a roommate you like, is a roommate who is never around. Our manager, though generally a nice guy, is also a bit intimidating and so we don't really bother him and he doesn't bother us. I realized that this could cause potential problems, especially because I am in an incredibly old building and things do fall apart (especially because no else who is in this building seems to care about fixing anything, but such is the curse of living near a campus). Once I realized how difficult (and uncomfortable) it was to contact my manager, I began calling the Management company directly. I have always had wonderful, friendly and prompt service dealing directly with Bieck. I've even spoken with Lida Bieck, the head of the company, before and she (as everyone else in her office) were all very friendly and helpful. If I could give a negative star rating I would. My son met the owner down to the apartment with 1st months rent, not really even a walk thru, was told there was a new bath liner, NOT, and new carpeting. The maintenance guy did a spot paint job, is what he was told, and you can for sure see the two different colors. This was on Wed, Sep 1. There's no way to move someone mid week, so come Saturday we load some boxes into a car and bring at least that over. I nearly died when I saw what they wanted my son to live in. And who can you call labor day weekend? Nobody! Bathroom was disgusting. Someone else's crap and pee on toilet seat, door didn't close, it kept scaping tile floor that had saw dust, hairs and dirt all on it. The liner they said was new is obviously missing grout between tiles. The light fixture was missing a bulb and the cover wasn't put on, just sitting on top med cabinet. Med cabinet had one shelf that worked the other was just dangling, it needed 3 more pegs, did I mention how filthy it was? Yeah I wanna put a toothbrush in there! The bath floor transition from tile to sheet laminate floor, but transition slip was missing. Onto kitchen.. stove, counter, sink all had this clear hard glue all over it, stove was hot to touch, but wasn't on. If you lift stove top to clean under it, we found, dirt, food, nails, paper, etc. just what you want near a pilot lite that was burning. Cabinets full of black dirt, grease, etc. cutting board had same hard glue drops everywhere along with old pizza sauce, refrig had food, dirt, sticky all in it. After the new manager Angela Sargent was hired,The new maintenance guys did not do nothing. They did not shovel the front walkway and the front porch.The USPS mailmen did not deliver the mail to those two apartments located at 3006 and 3014 West Pierce Street. The new manager cannot be trusted at those two apartments. Gloria Colle and Dennis Mikulac who works at the offices cannot be trusted either. I lived in their country oaks apartments and they were hell. You could look them up and see my review for that, but as far as bieck goes, the employees are rude (if they respond which is rare). The apartments are garbage. I spent 48 hours cleaning my apartment upon move out (mind you, I'm an extremely clean person, I shampooed the carpets every other day and vacuumed every single day), and they charged us $350 to clean our apartment cause they wanted money from us one more time I guess? We had an entire month where we didn't live there and we would come back and clean it everyday and for some reason we owe them money on top of our deposit. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. You get what you pay for and these are cheap for how much space they have. read more

Bieck is a large rental management company in the area. They manage numerous properties around town, both residential and commercial. I lived in one of their apartments for a number of years. It was an older building, satisfactory for what my needs were. It wasn't great, and it wasn't horrible, and I thought I'd share a few opinions. The apartment itself was in okay-though-somewhat-battered condition. The air conditioner didn't work (was promptly replaced upon request, good). The refrigerator's dial had been cracked and couldn't be set. They fixed that too. The windows were loose and a little drafty, but with free heat, I took the one that I felt might be a security issue, and fixed it in place with a bolt and fender washers (years later, we note that it is still there). There were a number of wall dings and door frame scrapes, and the paint job was relatively terrible (the words "slopped on" do not do it justice). I gathered, over time, that Bieck provided some sort of cash allowance to the on-site manager to fix up apartments for new tenants, and that there was some sort of incentive that led to the manager usually doing the painting and cleaning him/herself. The first few managers weren't all that great, and they came and went frequently, although on the flip side, there were few occasions to deal with them. One day, however, I was hearing a lot of banging and power tools in the basement, went down, found a new manager. He had come to an arrangement with Bieck where they would let him have a portion of the basement as storage and a workshop, and he was framing and drywalling the area. Unfortunately right under my apartment. Sounds bad, maybe, but it was actually the beginning of a better time, because he took great care of the property, rapidly fixed problems that other managers used to call in handymen for, etc. He was there until I moved out. Might still be there, who knows. Anyways, the main problem with Bieck seems to be that the in-building managers aren't always what they could or should be, and that's the face most renters are going to see. read more

My fiancé and I rented a one bedroom apartment on the east side for 3 years and we had a good experience. The manager did not live in the building but was very helpful and prompt. We had minimal issues with our apartment, but leaks and any other issues were resolved quite quickly. Over the three years we lived there, rent only went up 10$! Overall not too bad! I would not recommend renting an apartment managed by Bieck Management. I am tenant at 617 e Henry Clay, Sunday December 6, 2020 I was awaken from my sleep with noise. Turns out my downstairs neighbor was trying to break into my apartment at 2am. Law enforcement was immediately called and the downstairs neighbor was taken into custody. The next business day I reported the information to Bieck as instructed by law enforcement and Bieck's response was that they would ask the downstairs neighbor to write me apology letter for trying to break into my apartment. Needless to say I never received that apology letter and was advised by Bieck there is nothing else they could do. The main area of the complex smells often of cat urine caused by the downstairs neighbor pet. I took the initiative to place a glade plug in in the hallway but even that can often be over powered by the smell of cat urine. Please if you are looking for a safe, clean place to reside look elsewhere. read more

We're seven months into our first year in a beautiful apartment that we really love. The people at Bieck have been very prompt in taking care of anything that has come up, and have always exceeded expectations. They've been very friendly in handling any matter, and have never tried to cut corners. They've also taken great care of the property in general. BASICS: Based on personal and second-account experiences at the E Royall Pl location, Bieck Management is an unaccommodating, uncaring company. While the building is decent, its staff is under-performing and, at worst, extremely rude. Avoid this company if seeking a rental unit with a tolerable, helpful staff. DETAILS: The building gets three stars, but the management gets zero. This is the one and only year at this site and with this management. Living in Bieck's E Royall Pl building started well; the tour was nice, the on-site manager seemed pleasant, and the place is overall a decently-kept unit. The price is fair ($750-850/month for a 2bd), the location is great (just a block away from Brady St), and despite sitting right between Oakland Ave and Farwell Ave, the noise is very manageable. Parking isn't too hard to find nearby, and the location is extremely walkable (15min to Pick 'n' Save, 10min to your restaurant of choice on Brady, 5min to Walgreens) and bus-friendly. There is no elevator inside, but moving things up isn't too hard since the stairway is somewhat open. Laundry (several machines) and indoor bike parking are on the base floor. The white walls have a brushed look to them, and the dark wood frames and doors make the place a simple and cozy abode. The bathrooms are a bit dated, including old plumbing that result in showers and sinks taking sometimes 5-10min to get hot, especially in the winter. The living room and kitchen are spacious, the bedrooms are okay and have small closets, and the entryway is adequate. There are a handful of windows and the lighting is nice unless you're on the east side of the building (with a condo tower across the alley). The one main complaint is that the wooden floors are extremely creaky (apologies to the downstairs neighbors) unless you put a carpet down. All in all, the physical place is pretty nice and very affordable. The problem lies in the management. The on-site manager is only present Friday-Sunday/Monday, if even then, and has stated that - for those days which she would be in the building - she would not answer her phone past 7p. This begs the question: what's the point of being on-site if you're not going to respond? Worse yet, she turned out to be pretty harassing - living nearby was a nightmare. Initially she texted complaints at least every weekend about random noises, and that was between awkward invitations to go out drinking and her once taking a cat without permission. Then, she began to come to the door (every time, without fail, mentioning how she's sick) and tried to use guilt to discourage 2pm vacuuming, small (4-person) social gatherings, or other reasonable, everyday, apartment-confined noises she oddly deemed 'too loud'. Another tenant filed a harassment complaint against her at some point because of how often she complained, and from what I understand her boss ended up making the manager send the complaints to the big man rather than the tenant. Things went back to the way they were - silent and undisturbed - for a couple months, which was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, though, things got a bit worse as some awful noises began to come from the manager's unit every weekend - specifically fighting/throwing things, loud and constant swearing, and gorilla-like love-making moans. In addition, the smell of cigarette smoke has been smelled in passing, seeping out from the cracks in her front door once in a while (and, to note, it is a non-smoking building). Almost everyone around her unit witnesses the weekend wackiness. For an on-site manager who lives there for free (or so I've been told), she sure abuses the privilege. It really was unfortunate that she was supposed to be helpful, and yet instead was the worst part about the experience in that apartment. Her superiors only responded when a harassment complaint was filed, and since have done absolutely nothing, not even acknowledging tenant communication. In other words, the building management there is, and pretty much always has been, horrendous. read more

Pros: Price, Location, Space Private Entry Cons: Poor management (slow to respond & rude), smells, lack of interior improvements, bugs, shared garage space, dryer barely worked, consistent rent increases (ours about $15.00 p/year), obnoxious neighbors, energy efficiency issues, parking, Tiny bathrooms, pluming issues........ pulled a two foot clump of hair out of our drain, old appliances. I was suppose to look at an apartment on the south side with Jenny and she didn't answer my call or call me back (I waited 30 minutes outside of the building) which was a total waste of time. I called he office to let them know thinking they would apologize and offer to get in contact with her so I could look at the apartment. Nope! They said it was nothing they could do if she didn't answer. Do you treat your tenants like this?...probably so. I would never rent from these type of people!! Lived in a Bieck apartment for almost a year in Whitefish Bay. The building was pretty old. My front door didnt even go all the way to the ground. I lived on the second floor with my daughter who was 9 at the time. I could hear the dryer running through the laundry shoot even on the second floor. My unit had an "updated" kitchen, which basically meant it had a dishwasher. Randomly I got a letter in the mail that someone complained about noise and was hearing banging and stomping. I had no idea what noise the person below me could be hearing as my daughter and I weren't home much and went to bed early. I talked to my neighbor next to me who told me the apartments were paper thin, but she never heard us being loud. I also talked to the lady below me who complained to Bieck. She didn't understand how noise traveled through the apartments and was sorry she just complained about us instead of talking to me and it was mainly her 11 year old daughter who was complaining. Also, she told me she kept hearing a banging noise in the kitchen area. MY DISHWASHER. I mean did this lady think we just sat in the kitchen stomping. About a week before this, my daughter was in her room and tripped and the lady below us started banging on the ceiling scaring my daughter. I confronted her about this and she said admitted it. About 3 weeks later, my boyfriend's 3 year old was over and was running around playing. This lady came up and told us her daughter was sleeping and we were gonna wake everyone up. It was about 8am and I'm not sure how I can tell a 3 year old they cannot run around and play. Was it in my lease that children cannot play? She proceeded to tell me she would just continue to document everything I did. Later than day they were banging on the ceiling again. I called Kim at Bieck and told her the situation and she told me I needed to just call the police. Kim was absolutely no help. So somehow I can get noise violations, but this lady can get away with purposely doing things. Kim told me they were not going to make the other lady move out and they also were not going to let me move into an upper unit anywhere else. She barely would speak to me and said she had other work to do. She failed to realize I am a single parent, with a child in school. I ended up moving. I asked for leniency on the 60 days notice because school was starting in 6 weeks and I needed to switch my daughter's schools. Kim wouldn't. I had to move, switch my daughter's school, and lost my security deposit. All because of a woman who didn't understand old buildings. I lived in this building before this lady and the previous tenant said we were very quiet. I talked to the other tenants who lived in the lower building and they said they would hear the other upstairs lady's cats running around. If you can hear someone's cats, your gonna hear people. This was 2 years ago, but I am still bothered I didn't funnel this up at Bieck or call the police on this lady disturbing my peace. read more

First off let me start by saying BIECK MANAGEMENT IS THE WORST. My landlord 'Jenny' is absolutely terrible. We contacted the property owners and they were no help as well. We moved in and 4 months later my girlfriend and I found a bug what we come to find out is a bed bug. We told our landlord and she automatically assumed it came from us and has been NO HELP whatsoever. Now we are stuck paying for an exterminator where our complex has 20 units and they can potentially come back from them spreading. The property is Vermont Manor and would not recommend it. I've lived in an apartment building in St.Francis for 3 years and I had my bathroom ceiling fall when I was gone for a weekend which was due to a toilet above me leaking. It took 4days to get someone in to repair it .This past Christmas Eve I came home to my toilet over flowing on the floor due to my upstairs neighbor plugging the sewer line .They sent someone to unplug the line but not to clean my bathroom it took me a day to clean it . Then I moved out May 1st and got a bill for $185.00 from them to have someone clean it and it was as clean as it was when I moved in .They constantly have ppl moving out and theres a reason for it . read more

I am currently living in an apartment run by bieck management. It is honestly terrible dealing with them. Here is my most recent experience with them regarding a carbon monoxide leak: I call my apt manager around 4pm on March 24 saying my carbon monoxide detector (that says replace by dec. 2015 on it) went off a couple times that morning and she says... "Ok well close all your windows and call me if it goes off again." It does an hour later and I call her back and she says "Ok well i'll be by to replace it in an hour, its probably just malfunctioning." 2 hours later she comes to replace it with a new one and tells me to shut my windows again. About an hour later the new one starts going off! I call her and am like, shouldn't I contact the fire dept or something? And she says "no they wont be able to do anything i'll come over and shut off your gas heater and stove and someone will be over there monday to see whats going on. So she comes to shut the stuff off and gives me a 10 minute lecture on how i should clean the grease off my stove top (which is basically baked on and not much of it) and how that will attract the roaches. The roaches have been a problem since last year. Multiple tenants have had them and I have only seen 2-3 in my own apt in the past year. The roaches are not coming from my apartment. And honestly I think they are coming from the walls of the building itself but bieck it too cheap to even find out the source of the problem. Not to mention after a recent conversation with a neighbor this past weekend, they told me they were not even aware there were roaches in the building! But that is besides the point, my manager basically said if I didn't clean the stove I would get a letter, this was just a deflection from the bigger problem at hand- WHICH WAS THAT THERE WAS A CARBON MONOXIDE LEAK IN MY APARTMENT. She gave me a space heater for the wait until monday- which i'm pretty sure is a fire hazard in itself. And today the maintenance came and said the reason the carbon monoxide detector was going off was because there was so much soot in the gas heater that it clogged the flue and essentially caused the gas to back up into the apartment! This was basically a result of poor management and lack of maintenance of a basic gas heater that bieck management is responsible for. The way they handled my carbon monoxide detector going off was slow and unprofessional. I had to sit in the apt for at least 4 hours with this toxic fume in the air. Complete lack of regard for tenant life and their rights. Through all this hassle bieck management only gave me a $50 rent credit. It makes me wonder how many other tenants have similar issues. People's lives are nothing to mess with. People are more important than profits. This will not be the last they hear of this. read more

While living in Milwaukee I had the pleasure of living in two different Bieck properties. The first was a fairly old building located off of Downer on East Belleview Place. I shared a unit with 3 other roommates and the price was extremely reasonable I believe the total when I moved out was $1,050. I was fairly indifferent to the property managers at this building due to the fact I never really dealt with them and any issues or questions I had I went directly to the main office. The building itself was fairly well maintained for how old it is and our rent never increased more than $10. I lived there for about 2 years then moved to a Bieck Property in Riverwest on Weil Street and had a great experience. I lived in a rather spacious 1 bedroom for $535 which included a parking spot. The utilities weren't included but it was all electric and I don't think my bill ever went above $70. The property manager Jackie was on top of every issue I ever had and was extremely approachable. When I relocated to Colorado I even left some items on accident and she was kind enough to mail them to me. Lastly, I have to give them a lot of credit for the acceptance of my animals (3 cats), it was one of the few places that didn't charge an excessive pet deposit. Overall, I would recommend Bieck to anyone in Milwaukee looking for reasonably priced apartments. read more

This review is based simply on my recent correspondence with the rental office. I found an ad for a two bedroom apartment and it said specifically to call Kim. I called the number and extension that was given and never received a call back. Two days later I received a call back from another person at that office who said that Kim was unavailable and some how my number was given to them. They said they shouldn't have it, but do. I asked about the apartment that was for rent and was told it is no longer available. I then, was asked to submit to a hard credit pull and apply before I even saw any property. Firstly, hard pulls last on your report for up to two years. You shouldn't be doing this to peoples credit under any circumstance unless they are renting from you. Secondly, you shouldn't be telling me you don't know how or why you have my number and don't know what happened. Then, you tell me that the property is unavailable but that you require my information and want to run my credit. Something is seriously wrong here! Following up the experience, the apartments that were listed are still listed as available and have not been removed since I inquired. I agree with Holden K. This company is absolutely unprofessional and I will never do business with them ever. They cannot be trusted with peoples personal information let alone showing a building. VERY DIRTY AND RUDE MANAGEMENT! DO NOT LIVE IN THESE APARTMENTS! This has been the most disgusting and poorly managed apartment I have ever lived in! I would never recommend this place to anyone! To start off, when I move in the apartment looked like it was hardly cleaned if even cleaned at all, the carpets were not cleaned and the walls were not painted, all things I was promised would be taken care of before I moved in. A thick layer of dust and dirt covered the windowsill and it appears that behind the refrigerator and stove had not been cleaned in years. Our toilet seat and exhaust fan were both broken when we moved in. After many attempts to have someone come and fix both with no response from the property manager we just bought our own toilet seat and after a month of phone calls the repair man finally came to fix the fan. There were multiple sightings of mice inside my apartment and one was caught in traps that we again had to purchase ourselves. After the management claimed to have had an exterminator come a dead mouse sat in the stairwell the entire day. On top off the mouse problem there was also an ant problem. am a tenant on the north side been there for three years, loved the place at first and still think its a nice area, unfortunately after the situation that occured with me having mice,ants things have changed. i now have to either give away my dog that i had for two years or keep him caged all day which i think and feel is cruel. all happened after manager came in to check alarms and felt he was agressive because he was growling which if u ask me a normal reaction to a stranger, and given the breed of my dog he was being very protective, he hjowever never bit or harmed anyone, still the fact remains get rid of ur pet or cage him, harsh in my mind, dont u think? the numerous complaints about mice only got resolved in the metter of three to four months after i threatened to call the health dept, and even then they said its our fault because we keep the garage door open and the front door when the dog goes out, how very stupid, the doors are there so we can eneter or exit the house, yes!!!! we do open and close doors. the windows are very dirty and i was told by manager they will not be cleaned because she used to do it, but got injured and now i guess noone cares, the sink in kids bathroom has mold and the counter is chipped, everything is old and needs attention, but noone cares, cabinets had an awful smell in the kitchen, i even replaced all shelves and still stinks, manager notified she said noone will replace them, floor in the kitchen is old and dirty linolium which needs to be replaced, i wanted to do it with my own money was told by manager if i do it will be considered damage, how is that possible???? had two leaks in master bathroom, which leaked down to the kitchen now the ceiling is damaged, hope its not going to be our fault, toilet leaks second time after they fixed it. overall i am dissapointed, old bldgs yes, but for gods sake invest some money in it, if u want people to live there and be happy, the rent is high, therefore they need to take care of their people and they dont give a shit, i am dissapointed, i have to not only give my dog away now i have to think about moving. i was a good tenant not loud, not disrespectful, my dog never harmed anyone or their dog, this is unfair to us , i will not recommend this place to people i know and the only thing i will miss is the pool. read more
