One part is a typical Victorian heritage building, the other half in the back is very 21st century with iron beams and glass-like cages. The grounds and garden around the library are also beautiful, flowering trees and landscaped gardens. This place really does feel like an oasis.

My visit to this library was during the Covid-19 period when my library card expired…read more I wasn't really interested in borrowing physical books but because I recently got a Kobo eReader and libraries which are part of Montreal (such as Bibliotheque du Boise) offer the ability to download certain ebooks via the Overdrive platform. Montreal libraries had the possibility of borrowing ebooks and without renewing my library card, I was able to borrow ebooks for a certain number of months and then go through this same process again but I decided to just visit the library to renew my library card. I verified that the library was open and went there to renew my library card. Upon entering, there was a security guard at the door who asked me whether I was picking up books and I informed her that I was showing up to renew my library card. I used the hand sanitizer which was there and waited to be served by one of the library workers. Once she was ready, I gave my driver's license (showing proof of address residency) and my old library card and within a few minutes, she provided me with a new library card. Many local citizens seem to use it but though busy it s not noisy at all. I once had a poetry reading there in English which was well attended and well situated. I intend to try another open to the public activity there soon. Frankly, it is a magnificent resource for the community. Anglophone, francophone, allophone, tout le monde est bienvenue. This new space is large, 2 storeys, very well-lit, so much so, that it can be uncomfortably warm when the sun is shining directly into the floor to ceiling windows. This is also a very family and kid friendly library, with study rooms, a virtual reality room, and one half of the second floor reserved for them, too bad they won't stay there; the racket can be very irksome indeed! Always a great selection of new books, and computers,on the main floor,computers and stacks on second, where abovementioned kids' space, virtual reality and study rooms are located. On main floor,there is a large area complete with microwave, to reheat your lunch or dinner, with tables and chairs to sit and eat, no food on laps here;facing the dining area, are nice upholstered couches to sit,relax and chat, or wait for the Maison de la Culture( located upstairs) doors to open for a show, (tix a must), an art gallery is next door to the lounge/dining area. There are various workshops,free to the general public, given throughout the year, reservations required. Great place.

Not of lot of comfy seating, but it's still a really nice place to stop for a while. It's cozy and generally quiet. Like, it is waaaay quieter than Benny Library. So if you live in West NDG, it could be worth going to MoWest if you want a more peaceful place to pick up a book. They also have computers that you can use for free. Good section for young adults, including a lot of graphic novels that are awesome for adults both young and old. They have other stuff you wouldn't expect, like Board Games. Lots of good activities happen there, often free or very low cost. If you live in the area, you should get on their mailing list.

A surprisingly great local suburban library, twinned with a community art galerie and cultural…read morecenter. It's full of bright lake light, surrounded by gardens, fountains, trees with name plates celebrating dedicated volunteers and their mums. There are quiet rooms, free internet, and comfy well lit reading chairs. And the collection is surprisingly up to date, I went today looking for a bunch of books off the NY Times Best books of 2011 list and they had them all, fiction and non. Or I should say, the system had them all listed as available. Finding them on the shelf was a different matter as someone seems to play a little fast and loose with the alphabet over there, but frankly everyone who works there looks like a volunteer or their mum just doing their best to keep cool stuff on the shelves and interesting performances coming in for the kids to maybe one day earn a tree with a name plate, so I kind of like the hint of lovingly befuddled. The music section is surprisingly diverse too, I walked out with a bunch of Joni Mitchell and M.I.A. today and nobody batted an eye.

Things I really like about this place:…read more - The Set up:  english and french fiction novels separated in 2 huge sections, but then the rest organized by topic (more or less). So that means all french and english books for Fashion (Cooking, Art etc..), for example, will be found side by side. Whereas if you're looking for the latest fiction novel from your favorite author it will be either in the french fiction section or the english fiction section depending on which language you're looking for. This is great for us bilingual people who don't mind informational books in any language but may prefer to read a story in our mother tongue. - Adults separated from Kids: Half childrens library, half adults library, kool again. Haven't tripped over a single kiddo while perusing the books. The kids section looks like lots of fun too, very eye-pleasing, but haven't been here with childers yet so can't speak to the quality. - Easy to use catalog system on their computers, fairly decently placed to find what you need in most areas of the library without having to trek back to the front. - Easy self check out system too - Extensive collection of books, magazines, movies, music etc to borrow. You can even have them ordered from other librairies if they are missing something in particular and another Mtl library has it. I'm not a big fan of 2 things: - Closes early Fridays, I would love to spend a Friday evening at the library, but it closes at 5 so not possible. - In house selection not quite as good as I'd hoped for certain topics, I was hoping to borrow a few knitting books, but not much selection to be desired. *** P.S. The library will close in Fall of 2019 until late 2021 during renovations and expansion. It will be temporarily relocated during this period (they will announce where later in the year). I love writing my exams here as they have private rooms and free wifi too. The library is super quiet and chill. Very little noise. The most amazing part for me was the reading areas. One had couches and the second sitting area had leather bonded couches and fireplaces. You could take your pick of magazines to read as well. The cost of a membership is high if you live outside the area but worth it if you are a heavy bookworm. Check it out I loved the art displays and the architecture!
