This wonderful library truly carried me through both college and university, and it holds a very…read morespecial place for me. It became my reliable space for studying, reading, and finding focus during long days and late afternoons. There is genuinely something for everyone here, as the library is very spacious and offers an impressive variety of resources for all ages and interests. With four floors dedicated to different needs, including music, children's areas, extensive book collections, and quiet study rooms, it is easy to find the perfect environment depending on your mood or purpose. The sunlight throughout the building creates a bright, peaceful atmosphere that makes spending hours there feel comfortable. One of the things I love most about this library is that despite how popular and busy it can be, it remains incredibly quiet. People are respectful, and there is a shared sense of consideration that makes it an ideal place to concentrate. My favorite study area includes comfortable cushioned chairs and large tables that give you plenty of space to spread out and truly settle in for long study sessions. The library also feels thoughtfully designed to encourage productivity and comfort, with clean, well maintained spaces and a welcoming layout that never feels overwhelming. Having a coffee inside the library is the perfect touch, allowing you to enjoy a coffee or drink while reading or studying if you feel like it. Overall, this library is a true gem and a space I will always appreciate for its calm energy, excellent resources, and supportive environment.

I recently had the privilege of attending the first wedding at Atwater Library in over 100 years…read more It was the perfect space for an intimate gathering of friends and family to celebrate the occasion. The ceremony was held in a medium-sized room on the second floor featuring a low stage and plenty of seating (this room can be rented for other functions as well for a very reasonable rate). The receiving line was held in the upstairs hallway and then we moved downstairs to the reading room for the reception. The area in front of the circulation desk served as a dance floor where we danced until 1 AM. I am afraid I can't comment on the book-related aspects of the library, but it seemed like they had a sizeable selection as well as the standard amenities. Overall it was warm, filled with books, and a tres romantique venue for a wedding!

An oasis of mind-nourishing calm in the middle of the noisy, seedy side of the St.Catherine/Atwater…read morearea. A large 3 storey old fashioned library, with the probably original wooden card catalogue drawers and heavy, wooden tables and chairs. There is also a fully-equipped tech centre complete with tekkies to help, should you need it. This is the oldest public library in the city, affiliated with the old Fraser-Hickson,the oldest private library. Membership is required, but the cost is nominal and a steal for the 60 plus set; in fact this library appears to go out of it's way to provide interesting workshops, lectures and info seminars for this demographic,at either no cost,or for a very small fee. On the second floor,is where many of the tech, "how to" workshops are provided, usually free of charge, just be sure to reserve a spot in advance. In the basement, and sometimes on the ground floor, you'll find their used book sale, usually books that were donated for this purpose, best sellers etc., all monies are channelled towards their building fund. I found several hardbacked current books for next to nothing, all previously from the stacks! Another interesting tidbit,as a previous posting stated, the library rents its premises for various social functions presumably, another fundraising initiative. They are currently in the middle of a major fundraising campaign to amass much needed money to upgrade the library and have an eleavator installed...VERY needed, especially for the senior set. Great place for some peace and quiet, some tech work for those without computers, scanners, etc,(there is a charge for these services),tech advice, and just plain old fashioned reading and writing.

I love my local library. I love how it has everything I need…read morewithout being overwhelming, unlike big national libraries that have floors and floors of books and documents. There's an ample supply of books for adults, teens and children in both english and french. In more recent years, they've expanded their collection of movies, music and video games which can all be borrowed free of charge. One of my favorite features is that you can make a suggestion for a book if the library doesn't have it, they'll put it on their next order list. An author I adore was coming out with a new novel and instead of rushing out to the bookstore, I knew I could rely on my public library to have it in stock when it came out. In the past, there used to be a small fee for reserving books but that has now been lifted. You can borrow books for 21 days and even extend that time if no one else reserved it. All that done with a click of a button from your online account, accessible from home. Like all libraries, they have great staff on hand to help you with your search or for suggestions. There are many activities for children, particularly during summer, book clubs, seminars on job hunting like writing CVs, to parenting tips or homework help. There are designated areas to study and read peacefully, or rooms you can book for group projects. Many computers and printing services available and free wifi throughout. It's a beautiful, modern looking building with recent technologies and a wealth of information to surpass the average person. Although the library may be inhabited by many students, I encourage anyone and everyone to take a look, get back into reading - discover something new. Best of all, it's free.

Theres also a lovely permanent exhibition of butterflies and some intriguing temporary exhibitions hanging around year-long. City Hall is right across the library (you can just walk from the inside), I love its parking and location!
