I was in Quebec City around Christmas time in 2010. We were staying at a B&B only a few steps from this hat shop. I was greeted very cordially by an older gentlemen. He spoke to me in French but when I said I was from Pennsylvania on holiday he immediately spoke to me in English. He saw I was wearing a Borsellino fedora and he directed me to an area that had many beautiful fedora' s. He helped me choose a couple in my size and made sure they fit properly. I purchased one and still have and wear it every fall and winter. I took a picture of the shop from the outside on a very snowy day.(I'm a photographer.). I have the picture hanging in my den. Out of curiosity I decided to see if I could find this shop on-line, and today I found it. If and when I get back to Quebec City I will surely visit the shop again!! Al C. 3/30/2022. I was visiting the city of Quebec with a non-profit group I was traveling with. I work at a hat shop back in the states and so I was on the prawl for a cool Canadian hat. I came across this store and was super excited to geek out with the workers and share experiences with other hat store employees as I almost never get to do that back home. I arrived and was greeted very coldly by the female shop owner. I told her I worked in the states with hats and she completely no sold it. Couldn't be bothered with me. Whatever. It's the middle of the work day so it can get tiring. I get it. I come across a hat I thought would be cool for my coworker and asked her if I could take some pictures so I can get my friends opinion (because I was raised to fucking ask before you do shit like that in a foreign country or any store for that matter). She proceeded to snatch the hat from me and physically push me out the fucking shop and accused me of trying to steal her ideas and her hats (which is ludicrous because I work in ANOTHER COUNTRY) and I of course don't take kindly to someone putting their hands on me. We exchange some words and I go back to the place I was eating lunch at and tell my travel mates what happened. After we finish our lunch (which was next door to the shop) we are waiting outside the street when the husband comes out and asks if there's anything I'd like to say about his shop (I was of course pointing out to my friends the woman who pushed me out the shop). The husband, wife, and I get into an argument in the middle of the street and I never once got an apology. I don't think I did anything wrong. I don't want to say it's race related but she treated the white customers in the store a hell of a lot better than she did me. Maybe they were regulars? There's another hat store 5 minutes away in the same district. The people are friendly there. Don't bother with these rude and aggressive people. read more

Been in Quebec City for a couple of days and decided to browse some stores. Stopped in this place as you don't see many hat shops around anymore. Within just a couple of minutes the old guy draws a bead on us and begins to berate us about our rain coats and hats because "they are made in China" (actually, my REI rain coat was made in Vietnam! ). I'm sure he was not happy with us because we are Americans, even though my ancestral roots in Canada go back to the time of Champlain and the founding of Quebec. Until I read these reviews I thought maybe he was venting off due to Trump's idiot tirades against Trudeau and Canada, but I guess this guy is just who he is all the time. Hat stores are a dying breed, and I love a good Mom and Pop joint. You really can't do any better than when the only two employees at the store ARE Mom and Pop. This place was a breath of fresh air...but since it's a hat store, I mean that only figuratively because literally the air smells like my grandpa. The monsieur was a great help, I've been wanting to do my part to bring hats back into everyday wear. The first hat he picked for me had that spark and I knew right away I was going to get it. He told me it was a good fit and I asked "How do you know?" He replied with "I have a lot of experience." I trust that answer more than anything from this man, very proud and knowledgeable about his trade. There are many many hats in here for both men and women, informal ones to top hats and everything in between often in multiple colors. I really doubt I'll ever find another hat store that matches this one. read more

Dry-witted older store owners In any case, I had a lovely experience here, after the gentleman stopped tailing me through the store (I get this a lot--I'm apparently too young or disheveled to be shopping for serious items of luxury, so the store keeps assume I'm a thief) and helped me find my size, I had a grand time with him and, yes, the quite polite, good-humored Bibi herself. If you go in for ten minutes, ask questions, try more than one hat on, then get rudeness when you leave without purchasing anything and so leave a low review, you deserved the shade that was thrown your way and your reviews mean nothing. I am quite happy with my wool hat and my experience with this fine Chapelier. Post-script: the reason hatters don't want you trying the hats on without them is not simply because they're detesting of tire-kicking (which they very rightly are)--it's because you can damage many hats with your hand's natural oils, and brimmed hats are meant to be handled on certain areas of the hat to avoid premature degrading of the wool, felt, straw, etc.. French-American here. They didn't think I was American, I speak accent-less French. The rude older lady went on an anti-american rant that was frankly insulting. The lady then tried to explain that smart people and successful people wear hats, but people that do not wear hats are intellectual​y difficient. My friend tried a beanie because his ears were cold, and after hesitating, the older lady told me that it is because he has no creativity and needs to instead roll the beanie up... Which would not cover his ears... mind you, she was not well put together... Finally, when came time to pay, the beanie had a $25 tag yet we were charged $35. And when asked, they said that the $25 was on previous sale.... The older gentleman seamed nicer even though he ripped us off. We went across the street in a sportswear shop and there were better beanies for about $15. Avoid this place. I feel bad because I think they are old and must be losing money.. read more

A serious hat shop with an attitude. The attitude stems from Bibi herself who is quite a character. Do not take her too seriously or you may think her rude! She is actually quite humorous if you joke with her. The selection of hats is outstanding and includes some rabbit felt hats made in Montreal. She may mock the hat you are wearing if it is a baseball cap or made in China, so be prepared. Actually, be prepared for jovial mocking in any case. The old fellow who is her partner is truly rude. For someone who works in a hat shop, he wears some really bad hats. Nevertheless, if you are up for mocking him a bit, he warms up and will give you decent service. If you just are there to look and not buy, be ready for serious scowls, though. read more

This is the first time I've purchased from an actual hat store, and I must say the experience was well worth it. The department stores don't give you one-on-one time, or frankly know which hat to suggest for you. The saleswoman here was extremely helpful, and only showed me pieces based on what I wanted. The salesman easily adjusted my husband's hat to perfectly fit. They have a large selection of both male/female hats spanning all 4 seasons. I am visiting the lovely city of Quebec with my family and we were enjoying many fine stores with many purchases when we saw the Bi Bi Chapelier sign and walked in excited to purchase a gentleman's hat to remember this charming city. While being waited on by a friendly gentleman who couldn't have been nicer we were trying on many hats but not sure which one to purchase when out of no where a large woman possibly the owner began to berate me stating that she has the best hats and told me that I don't know quality when I see it. I begged her pardon and told her that I had many hats that I have purchased through my life some extremely expensive and that I wanted to continue dealing with the gentleman that I began with. She became very curt with me and shoved me in the chest and told me to get out of her store that she did not need my American money. My poor fiancé and daughter were mortified and I shook the gentleman's hand and told him that I have never been so insulted and have never been aggressively shoved by a Proprieter in my life. I never give negative feed back because there are days that people aren't at the top of there game and forgiveness is always the best way to handle a bad experience but this woman was nasty, aggressive and bitter therefor I give this establishment the poorest grade ever. My apologies about this bad review but she deserves it an we ended up finding another fine Men's hat store and made a purchase. Being ignorant and mean is unacceptable in any circumstances. Terrible employee, super rude. The man was helping another couple, and we were browsing the shop. We found a mans aviator hat, and we were trying them on, with intent to purchase. The man walks over, and begins to berate us something about "does not pay his rent". I was speechless, apologized, and he said, "next time you should ask, apologies do not matter". This was the first shop we stopped in, and thankfully the only rude person we encoutered our whole trip. It was so bad, I wanted to walk back in and show him the hat WE DID BUY from his competitor. When I first walked in, I was 'greeted' by a younger man (by 'greeted' I mean without so much as a 'hello', he said "what kind of hat are you looking for?"), and not knowing much about the store, decided to take a rather quick look around. After just glancing at the other side of the store for maybe 10 or more seconds, the man says "that's the women's section", which I knew full well (Curiosity killed the cat I suppose). I thus turned around and started looking at just the men's section. For such a small store, they have quite a range of hats -- ranging from berets to top hats to furs, they have a wide range of hats to choose from, and the first one I fix my eyes on happens to be out of my price range. After putting it back, the old man came over and picked out a different hat for me that was both in my price range and just as nice, if not nicer than the one I was looking at. I tried on two different sizes, the first of which we decided was the better fit, and he put in a foam strip. After that, it fit snugly. When I got to the cash register, he offered me a very limited, yet very fitting selection of feathers, gave me a bit of information about whether or not I choose to stick the foam strip, and we joked a bit about how long the debit machine takes to process. I walked out a pretty happy customer. Long story short, the store has a really homey, familiar feeling to it. A little daunting to a first time hat buyer (such as myself), but as long as you don't touch every hat in the store or look around aimlessly for 10 minutes, the owners are actually quite friendly and helpful. read more

My wife really wanted to buy a brown hat. After being forced to try on several old-ladyish hats that were too small and looked ridiculous, the wife and husband started their barrage of insults such as, "if you can't see yourself in a hat, don't waste my time", to "if you spend that much money on your boots why won't you spend that much on your head." I felt like we were being scolded by the beret-wearing villain in the Goonies movie. Then the husband turned to me (I was wearing a college baseball cap) and said "like you, wearing your cheap Chinese made hat that's only good for publicity." After less than five minutes in the store, the husband said, "if you can't see yourself in a hat, better to go elsewhere." And with that we did. I shop at BB's every year, I love their hats. It is a hat shop and run by a very nice man and woman. Reine and Rejean are wonderful. You can not find their hats anywhere in US. They are very honest in how it looks on you. It is a store where you can try on these beautiful hats. Some for men some for women. It is a store with its own style and no glize. Terrible, worst shop in Old Quebec by far. I walked in, turned and picked up a hat. At that point, some prick actually greeted my wife and I by asking if we were blind or deaf. We are neither. He apparently wanted to tell us that they find sizes, I guess I don't know my own size well enough to try a hat on. As he gave his pathetic explanation of his rude behaviour, my wife and I walked out the door. Will never be back, couldn't pay me to take that kind of treatment. Like a breath of fresh air after having dealt with a musty, mouldy shop and its similar keeper. Ibiza had great service and a delightful lady who actually let you try the hats on. I spent some time in this store today and had a wonderful, educational visit with the shop owners. Both were busy making hats when we entered. My husband told them up front I liked looking at hats but did not like to spend money on myself just to prepare them for my "tire kicking" visit as another reviewer put it. While there are no "do not touch" signs in the store, it was obvious their inventory Is special that deserves respect and careful handling. They joked with us while we took a quick stroll around the store until we arrived at the fur hats. I put them in charge with no intention to purchase and within a few minutes (much to my husbands surprise) I was ready to buy.
