Heat-treated Geode
HaiHai C.

I love it here so much!! Surprisingly, this place has the most affordable crystals I've ever seen. $1 for any tumbled kind. The owner is super friendly and he even gave me a discount because I met his dog, Chance. Spent $40 for a hoard of items, including a blue $5 geode that was fantastically heat-treated. The owner definitely knows his stock, he taught me so much about the process of his crystals while in the making. Please visit!

Our little gem in IB. Can't believe I've lived in San Diego so long and have not came here. My day started out a little rough but nothing that a stroll at the beach and some one on one with good people couldn't fix. One of those good people I met here. His name was Fidel. Not only was he nice but he told me so much about Bippy's I felt like a member of the family. The owners have been there so long the colorful building is home to anyone who frequents IB. You step inside and you're greeted by a friendly smiling face and so much beachiness. I was strolling through looking at the impressive sea shells and works of art. Honestly I was intimidated because of how beautiful everything was I didn't even want to ask the price. I folded, I loved the seashell mirrors and to my surprise &20.00!! Guess who is going to have a beachy themed bathroom!! This girl right here! fidel told me the mirrors were made by one of his personal friends that was a local and he didn't raise the price so Bippy's wasn't going to raise the price either. I ended up with two shell night lights and a shell trivet for under 15 bucks! I loved how this place feels like family from the very first visit. Mike you have a gem his name is Fidel and the shop ain't all that bad too!

I came here to look with fellow coworkers. This was right across the street from Babycakes. As we walked in, we saw so many shells, earrings made out of shells, bracelets and other stuff. The cheapest thing I saw were sea stars for 75 cents sold individually. Pretty cool. I was amazed at how much stuff is sold here. The two guys working in the store were nice and answered any questions we had on their items. I just looked around. I did see bracelets I wanted to buy but maybe next time I come here, I will purchase it. They take credit cards. It's right on the corner but good luck with parking as this time I came here it was full. Luckily we found parking on the corner. The afternoon is when parking can be a challenge. However, I truly enjoyed this store because there were so many types of shells. They even sell shirts that say Imperial Beach on them. Pretty cool store. If you're in my hood, come check it out.

Front and back... Which will never be mailed!

He says he enjoys when the vendors come and he adds to his inventory. He has wood, glass, silver and more from all over Mexico. So many beautiful quality items. I could shop to my heart's content. I bought bracelets, a money clip for hubs, earrings & hair clip for my granddaughter, a simple ring for Doc, a nativity scene with individual pieces. There were gorgeous stained glass but how to carry it back to Hawaii? I also bought colorful glass hummingbirds for our Christmas tree. The owner wrapped each piece in bubble wrap or individual bags and packed them in 2 compact boxes. It was very easy to pack in one of my carry on size suitcases. I would definitely recommend this shop. He told us which section was silver plated and which was pure silver.

A pretty great afternoon here exploring this ecosystem and getting the opportunity to view some…read moreamazing birds! Estuaries are great places for birders and bird viewing and this place is such a gem! Visitor center has an exhibition to learn about the Estuary, gift shop, ranger on duty, bird books you can borrow, restrooms and water fountain available. Ranger on duty today was super helpful and kind. She shared with me that the Clapper Raill could be seen here and gave me directions to take N McCoy trail and this was where I would most likely see this Rail, which is unique to this Estuary! I was pretty excited about that, however, since I came in the early afternoon. I did not spot one. Oh well, this means I have to come back! After this, I tackled S McCoy trail, which is a longer trail but when you come to the end of it, it where three water ways meet and this was amazing as so many birds were here. I got to see egrets, Willets and also some long billed curlews! Curlews have a very long beak and they are pretty striking birds! Wow! The path is well paved, flat and plenty of benches along the way. Great for a hike, bring your dog, come for a run, come for birding, enjoy a healthy dose of nature! No shade here so make sure to put on sunscreen and bring water. Overall, a lovely place to visit, definitely come check it out if you like nature and birds.

Parking is mostly street parking and a small parking lot at the Visitor Center. I started at Imperial Beach Blvd. and took the N. McCoy Trail and worked my way down to the end, where the water is between the north & south McCoy Trail. There's a nice look out there and a few benches to relax and bird watch. The trail I took was in good condition and consisted of compact soil and surrounded by the estuary and native brush, plants, and cacti. There were occasional benches along the trail. It was a good walk and I look forward to taking the S. McCoy Trail next time.
