It takes over 15…read moreminutes to get somebody to pay attention to you, despite there being a buzzer on your table, which apparently means nothing! Haha. It's like being in a bustling diner/ deli/ market, the black and white checkered floors reminiscent of an 80's diner! The food is largely Italian style and the pasta tastes fresh and local made. Mainly tagliatelle, which is my preferred pasta, so I am very biased there! The people are very warm and friendly as I have found people in São Paulo and in Argentina to be! I just wish I could take the Latin America warmth and friendliness and sprinkle a lot of it in Connecticut, liberally!!!

Yelp Review 2025 #162:…read more Despite Anthony Bourdain not being around anymore, having watched his shows that I still rewatch til this day, I make it a mission to try places he's been. He has not steered me wrong so far. As soon as I landed in São Paulo, I hopped on a taxi to have my first meal in Bar do Mane with bags in tow. I got here at 11am and they still had plenty of empty tables - they do take up a lot of space in Mercado Municipal de São Paulo which means more tables and chairs for their diners. Scan the QR code that's on the table to see the menu. I already knew what I wanted to get so, I waived one of the servers over to place my order. There's only one thing you SHOULD get from here anyway: their famous mortadella sandwich...ok, maybe, try their bacalhau too. Under 10 minutes later, I got my food. Mortadella Sandwich: They come in 2 sizes: regular and large. Trust me, the regular sandwich will fill you up. If you're sharing with another person, get the large. Layers upon layers of thinly sliced mortadella with melted gooey cheese on top that you can literally see melting towards the layers of salty mortadella - all on a soft bun. The sandwich comes pre-sliced which makes it easier to share or take the other half home/ to your hotel. They're generous with the mortadella. The sandwich is about 48 Brazilian Reais which is under $10. The cheese is incredible. It's a squeaky kind of cheese even though the color looks like it's cheddar cheese. I asked for a box for my leftover. They boxed it up for me and put it in a bag. I ate the other half the next day - cold. It would've been better warmed up for sure. Most hotels don't really have a microwave unless you're staying at an Airbnb or an apartel. The service was ok. All you have to do is wave somebody over if you need anything. Sitting there waiting for things to fall on your lap will leave you sitting there for over an hour.

Parking doesn't seem to be a problem, and it's near the corner of Paulista and Consolação, for those who are on foot in the area. It offers a view with plenty of greenery by São Paulo standards, and you can feel free linger after you finish your juice. One important thing to keep in mind is that they only take cash or debit cards - no checks or credit cards. Also, during the winter, their hours are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Sao Paulo only seemed to make the absolutely terrible which really weren't kebabs at all. My search for a decent kebab led me to Pinati, an Israeli restaurant located in Santa Cecilia. However, each time I was nearby, it was Saturday and it was sadly closed. Though one Sunday afternoon I made the trip over to Pinati to test out there kebab. And boy I was not disappointed. At around 30 reais it might be a little steep for a kebab but it is totally worth it. The freshly made hummus, the juicy chicken made each bite explode in my mouth. The service was attentive and the portions were quite generous. Definitely on the list to return, just not on a Saturday.
