He provided so many interesting facts and details throughout this historical tour. He even gave us tips on other things to see on our own. It was truly a great introduction to all the historical landmarks we would see during our stay in Philly. He had so many great recommendations. The pace of the tour was perfect. There is a cobblestone path and a slight incline to navigate from Elfreth's Alley to Christ Church. It was all super easy considering all the walking we did that day. The tour ends just behind Independence Hall. He walked those who were interested over to the Liberty Bell Center from there. I think the biggest surprise for all of us was that it wasn't super crowded in Old City that day. It was the Friday before Labor Day. I'd gladly return again in September. It was a beautiful day!

From the outside, it looks like a church a small church but on the inside, it is immaculate, ginormous and just all in all beautiful. You do have to do a tour that's the only way to see the facility which we did. We got there around 10:30 and then we just booked a tour for the 11 o'clock. They gave the history, they talked about the architectural, their charity work, and the facilities also used for weddings, photo shoots, etc... but so fun we really enjoyed it. This is probably one of our favorite highlights of our Philadelphia trip.

At least a couple of the staff were inconsiderate, thought they were better than everyone else, and downright weren't professional. However, just wanted to give caution to anyone wanting to use this venue in the future to Celebrate their special day to be careful. You may run into two-faced people who run your show to which I sincerely apologize in advance. Anyway this comment probably wouldn't matter to people, but I'm gonna give my two cents anyway. If you need to use the restroom before the Tour, use the one in the Betsy Ross House because the one in the Starbucks across the street didn't have any toilet paper. We had a very big group but Toni kept us all together. She is such a gem - a much better storyteller than the Tour guide from the Independence Hall. This tour with Toni made up for the anticlimactic one from the Independence Hall. She was very thoughtful and made sure we always stopped in the shade since it was a very hot day. Her stories were entertaining and engaging. I loved all the historical snippets she'd give us about the timeperiod of the founding fathers. We got so lucky because Benjamin Franklin's printing press was finally opened after a 10-year closure. Such a great addition to The Tour. You donate whatever you want at the end and I would highly recommend it if you're in Philly.

We started at the Betsy Ross house where we stayed outside for about 15 minutes. We went to elfreth's alley where we spent close to 30 minutes learning about the Trinity style architecture and lots more. We walked to the courtyard of the Ben Franklin museum. He also gave us the lowdown on where to go for the best cheesesteaks. It's pay what you wish and overall gives a great introduction to the city.

An Incredible Halloween Experience in One of the Coolest Historic Locations!…read more We visited Eastern State Penitentiary for its Halloween Horror Nights event, and we had an absolute BLAST! This place is already fascinating because of its history and the atmosphere of the old penitentiary, but experiencing it during a Halloween event takes things to a whole new level. The setting alone makes this such a cool place to visit. There's something about exploring a historic prison after dark that creates the perfect atmosphere for a haunted attraction. Add in the Halloween decorations, incredible actors, and immersive experiences, and you have the recipe for a fantastic night! The event featured five well-themed haunted mazes, and we were thoroughly impressed. The haunt actors were incredible, bringing so much energy and commitment to their performances. We also loved the Touch Pass option, which lets guests opt for a more intense, hands-on experience. It's a great addition for those who want to take things up a notch and get even more immersed in the scares! There were tons of great photo opportunities throughout the grounds, so you'll definitely want to take your time exploring and grabbing some pictures. We appreciated the variety of food trucks available, too, which made it easy to grab something to eat while enjoying the event. The absolute highlight for us, though, was the Speakeasy experience inside Al Capone's cell! We paid a little extra for this experience, and we HIGHLY recommend doing the same if you visit. The singers and actors were phenomenal! One of my personal favourites was an amazingly talented woman who sang opera beautifully. Her voice was absolutely incredible, and it was such an unexpected highlight of the evening. I also loved the woman who performed a lovely rendition of Barracuda. Both performances really stood out and made the experience feel like so much more than just another Halloween attraction. You even get a complimentary drink included with the Speakeasy experience, and the beer was excellent! Between the live entertainment, the historical setting, and the overall atmosphere, it was absolutely worth paying the extra money. Overall, we had an amazing time at Eastern State Penitentiary's Halloween event. The combination of the historic location, fantastic haunted mazes, talented actors, Touch Pass option, photo opportunities, food trucks, and unique Speakeasy experience made for a memorable night. If you're visiting Philadelphia during Halloween season, we highly recommend checking this out! And seriously, don't skip the Speakeasy at Al Capone's cell. That experience alone was a major highlight for us! It is an old prison set in a neighborhood, kind of like Wrigley Field is in the middle of a neighborhood. The structure is huge and has a hub and spoke type of detention with 8 cell clocks around a center location. The cells were small, but they did have Al Capone's cell, which was decked out! He was there for a year for an illegal weapon. Nice narration and a great way to spend an hour or two in Philly!

It is a museum, part of the Colonial Germantown Historic District. -Wikipedia This house is extremely well preserved, and you can easily make a day of visiting this house and the Germantown White House (this is where President Washington lived before the house we refer to as today's White House was built) which is within walking distance. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and was nice enough to allow our party to have a picnic style lunch in the backyard of the house once the tour was complete. He shared with us that he is a retired University professor and Philadelphia native. He loves this city and it showed! We learned about the history of one of the oldest markets in the US (over 100 years old) and sampled some items along the way. We also saw street art and learned more about the history of the City, William Penn's plan for a "utopian" type society and the legendary "curse of William Penn." The Penn statue on top of City Hall used to be the highest point in Philadelphia until the 1980's when the mayor alllowed skyscrapers in. The legend goes that after that, all the Philly sports teams had a losing streak until a worker on one of the new tallest buildings added a mini statue of Penn to the top, then the teams started to win again. On our tour, we sampled... Sesame seed sprinkled fresh bread (with no preservatives) Italian cookie drizzled with chocolate. Aged Balsamic Vinegar, Fig Vinegar and Coconut flavored White Balsalmic Vinegar Special cheese (can't remember the name) coupled with spiced cashews Fresh (made today) Tortilla chips and fresh tomato salsa from a shop where the owners are from Central Mexico Mandarin orange from the produce stand Plus we got 10% off when we purchased additional items at the vendors we passed for being on the tour.

This is a fantastic way to spend an evening, taking in the history of not just Philadelphia, and…read morenot just Pennsylvania, but the birth of the United States of America. This is where it all happened. Bear in mind, my review is written based upon our visit to Philadelphia and our having taken this tour package on September 1, 2018. The meal at City Tavern was very good. We were seated at tables downstairs, and the room size was perfect for our group. The actors and actresses had ample room to carry on with their dialogue and fun while we ate. From the City Tavern we walked (via our "tour guide" John Dunlap) over to Independence Hall. It was just getting dark when we arrived and the place was absolutely beautiful. I am also posting photos, which include some taken outside of Independence Hall, before and after we were taken inside the building for a private tour, and a peek into a vital point in our nation's history... dare I say, the world's history(??). The package is well worth the cost, as it is filled with many different treats and available points of history being presented. I would especially recommend this for families, and it is equally applicable to couples, singles, young and old! But he readily admits it, along with his reasons. Our tour was at least an hour and a half long and I think covered pretty much everything in downtown Philly with big history.
