I do not say the following lightly: Nikolai is by far one of the most talented massage therapists I have ever had the luxury of booking a session with! I've been managing back & muscular pain with massage and bodywork therapy for 15+ years due to a scoliosis that causes overworked back/shoulder muscles as well as the occasional athletic-based injury. Rarely do you find someone like Nikolai who is the trifecta of talent: fantastic technical skills (read: amazing pressure), listening skills (to tailor your session) and a deep diagnostic understanding of how the body's systems interact. For myself, the goal of a massage is first and foremost to be a physically therapeutic experience; to relieve very targeted pain/tension and enable better range of motion in problem areas on my body. I'm not looking to take a nap on the table, I'm looking for a therapist that understands the complex interplay of the musculoskeletal body system. Nikola was so receptive to explanations of what felt wrong in my body, but more importantly, he brought to each session a focus on diagnosing and understanding WHY tensions were being held where they were, and discussing how to relieve and prevent them. He employed a combination of classic massage techniques, kinetic bodywork, hot + cold therapy, some supplemental topicals/treatments, and (I cannot stress this enough) a comfortable and open environment to discuss exercise/physical habits that may have led to injuries and tightness. All the above added up to: leaving my apt feeling physically fantastic post session, as well as so much better educated about how to prevent and treat persistent stress and tension. I came in with severe pain and tightness in my shoulder due to a rotator cuff injury, and the fact that he was able to work around a recent stressor + congenital skeletal issues is pretty impressive. YES, the price tag here is on the high end of bodywork type services I've even received, but between the high cost of living in Aspen and the amazing service provided, I cannot recommend Nikolai with more enthusiasm. His knowledge, experience and skillset are priced fairly for the benefit your body will receive! read more

I have been suffering from a painful disabling case of Sciatica for over a year an a half. I reached the point where I could not even walk my dogs for a quarter of a mile. I have tried every treatment option from treatment with a Chiropractor, electrical stimulation, massage, steroids, physical therapy with 3 therapists, and three epidurals with a skilled pain management doctor without success. Erica completely sped up the healing process for my stress fracture. I am an ultra runner, and unluckily had a stress fracture injury in my shin this summer. During my first session with Erica, she completely reactivated my entire right side that had shut down after the injury. This made a huge leap in getting me back to normal. From here on, she focused on increasing circulation in the injury through electronic stimulation, thoughtful acupuncture, and relaxing massage. Wow what an amazing massage! I came up to Aspen/Snowmass from Denver with YWB 2014 and met, the incredibly personable and lovely, Erica at one of our parties. I have to say that Erica's massage was absolutely the most enjoyable part of the trip. Don't get me wrong.. good eats and plenty of booze in Aspen is fabulous but nothing compared to the self-care and healing one can get from a much needed deep tissue massage. (Ha! I suppose I've grown up a little!) ;) Honestly, I have never had a more effective and intelligent deep tissue massage in the over 15 years that I have been seeking such a service. In my younger days I suffered quite a few athletic injuries and have more than my fair share of scar adhesion in my muscles. And deep tissue massages have always been somewhat disappointing because typically they were not very deep and not very balanced. When they were deep it was usually on a very limited part of my body, very painful, and left me feeling bruised or sore. Admittedly I bruise easily as a ginger but definitely not after Erica's massage! What really amazed me about the Ashiatsu massage Erica gave me was the way it was very evenly deep, and the way it lengthened and re-oriented my muscle tissue. Truthfully fingertips just can't compare to how a foot can penetrate and at the same time lengthen and stretch you, especially the way Erica does it (she balances and supports herself on two wooden bars that run across the ceiling, so that she can use her feet in long strokes, with varying pressure). It was amazing how much technique went into the massage Erica provided! If I didn't know she was using her feet I would have had no idea what was touching my body. Something powerful, strong, hard, and soft. It was also amazing how even and thorough the massage was. And again it was a very deep tissue massage without the pain! It was by far the best and most effective massage I have ever had. It was worth taking the time to write this review. Also pretty sure I still dream about this massage weekly :) If you enjoy deep tissue massage and have never tried it before, I would highly recommend an Ashiatsu by Erica. My husband and I left the kids at home and flew to Aspen for a week this winter. I arrived with a headache and extreme shoulder/neck tension. Thankfully, I found Erica Boulangee on my second day of the trip. Erica's office is beautiful, clean and she didn't chat with me during the session (unless I asked a question). She went above and beyond to pinpoint the source of my tension and, specializing in necks, went right to the source of the problem. She gave me so much more than a good rub --it was an incredible experience of healing and realignment. Her experience and training were obvious and I was able to relax, trusting her knowledge and skills. After the session, I immediately booked another massage with her for the following week right before my departure. She has a lot in her bag of tricks... she used several techniques on me: stretching, hot stones, combined with her super-strong hands and feet (you'll see what I mean).
