I have bought and sold numerous homes in the Atlanta area--including one through probate--and I…read morehave never encountered as many issues with closing as I did with McMichael & Gray. We provided every document the firm requested, including the POA and trust documents they themselves recommended. Yet each submission was rejected. The process became so unmanageable that we ultimately changed mortgage companies, as the original lender did not offer a product suitable for a loan made to a trust. The turning point for me was an unprofessional conversation between one of the attorneys, Anna Dougherty, and our mortgage lender. She insinuated that something "wasn't right" with our situation and claimed the story kept changing. She also questioned why the attorney who prepared the POA and trust had not contacted them--despite having no factual basis for that assumption--and suggested we had switched from a cash purchase to a loan without understanding the circumstances. In my own profession in healthcare, speaking about a client or patient in that manner would lead to reprimand or termination. In the end, we stopped using McMichael & Gray and closed with a different real estate attorney. The same documents that McMichael & Gray rejected were fully accepted for the successful sale of our parents' home in New York and by the attorney who ultimately closed our loan. Based on my experience, if McMichael & Gray are assigned as closing attorneys in any future transaction I'm involved in--and I am unable to choose a different firm--I would strongly consider walking away from the deal.

But when you don't care about the clients and just in for the cash this is what happens. If you want unprofessionalism and to pay them for you to do the leg work that they should be doing. Then definitely hire these clowns. When finding the mistakes and presenting to them they just shrug and say oh well and come up with an excuse. If we didn't contact the right people and rectify the situation who knows what would have happen. Your firm isn't worth the one star rating. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Our property title was never completed six months later. We had been paying a mortgage and an escrow without a home officially in our names. Little did we know, the title was having complications per Craig Long's assistant. No one contacted us during this time. We then had to have the old home owner come back to sign more documents to push things through. We now are paying back pay for the previous years escrow. An added $300 a month to our mortgage. Huge inconvenience with no rush to finish up the deal. No communication to notify us of the title process. Very unprofessional firm.

Perry, as our closing attorney, was responsible for ensuring the legitimacy of the transaction, yet he failed to do his due diligence. While title insurance covered the cost of the land, we lost a significant amount of money on the construction. Rather than owning up to his mistakes, Perry refused to take any responsibility. His negligence cost us dearly, and his lack of accountability only made matters worse. We would never trust this firm again.

It was stressed to her by our mortgage broker that my wife works in surgery and we needed an after hours appointment. But I guess her guests come first before an essential hospital worker. Shame on you Linda for not being available and delaying our closing on our remortgage!
