When I finally decided to take a hearing test, my situation turned out more advanced. Jonah patiently reviewed my medical history for any indicators, and very kindly answered my many questions. It was such a relief to talk to him, as he was so kind in explaining my options for hearing aids, the insurance coverage and especially advice on how to adjust it to my lifestyle. I initially thought hearing aids were once size fit all, but as Jonah explained, there are various types depending on need, age, lifestyle, use etc. I'm glad I went to him instead of Costco, as his care and personal guidance made me more at ease with the life change. My recent experiences elsewhere in the Bay Area were frustrating; for instance, while the audiologists at the Stanford Hearing Institute are competent, they don't seem to listen to their patients. In contrast, the audiologists at Sound Speech & Hearing Clinic are both knowledgeable and dedicated to following up on any issues. Melissa Beer is highly competent and friendly; she worked with me extensively to fine-tune my hearing aids over several sessions. An additional benefit is the pricing, which is much more affordable than the Stanford Hearing Institute for exactly the same hearing aids from Oticon. Even though I live forty miles away from San Francisco, the travel is well worth the effort.

I informed the Lady on the Phone. Asking for Phonak P70 VS P90. She politely informed me she will get back to me ( I dont normally Expect a response basing on my experience with couple of Providers) BELOW ME DOWN..She called me couple of hours to inform me ..Yes...The Price was way way way below for what i Paid from from KAISER $$$. First Available appointment was on the 5h of January.... Impression soon as got inside their Clinic? HOME !!!! I Felt at home..Their clinic was not like most others . It just made me felt at home. They had a great Protocol too..My appointment was at 2:30 and I just waited outside their clinic. (Good precautionary ). I was greeted outside by Melissa ..the Audiologist...First time I met her made me feel im welcomed and she's there to help... She Informed me the difference between P90 vs P70 ( Higher end Hearing Aid) . I told her since i worked in a very noisy environment I could hear all the plates and glass more than vocal speech of people i interact. She told me to upgrade to P90 (Noise Cancelling ) I said lets do it... Im Looking forward to trying and getting P90 Next week... I love My Kaiser Hearing Aid Clinic too.but their price is way OVERRATED compare to this Great Clinic...TRY IT

I have to agree with the previous reviewer and I hope this review helps others who are trying to…read morefigure out their audiology care. The audiologist who helped me was kind and competent. This was a standard audiology visit with a hearing test: "Tell me when you stop hearing the beep." The test took about 25 minutes. After, I had a five minute conversation with the audiologist to review the results. It turned out that though I have some hearing loss, it is not enough to require hearing aids. Very good, thank you! I paid $95 for the hearing test with an audiologist. This is reasonable for California, as I knew from many friends who have had their hearing tested. UCSF Audiology Clinic then billed my insurance $1,300, applied a $700 discount, and send me a bill for $600. This is an outrageous price for this kind of exam, and when I called to check on it their explanation was: "This is a specialty hospital, any charges here will be billed at hospital rates and include facilities fees." I pointed out that I didn't go to the hospital, never saw a doctor, just went to the audiology clinic for a hearing test, and if the bill was going to be $1,300, they ought to have given me a heads up. The answer I received was very frank: "It is not our responsibility to tell you the price. It is your responsibility to know the price." Well, I got taken advantage of pretty badly here, but you don't have to. If you have something better to do with $600, go to any normal audiology clinic rather than UCSF Audiology. If it turns out you have something seriously wrong that requires treatment by a otolaryngologist in a hospital, I suspect UCSF has some of the best ones. But first, go to a regular audiology clinic for your hearing tests! They will give you exactly that same exam and they will bill less than 1/10th of the price here.

First, the pluses: The audiologist I visited was helpful and informative and did an excellent job…read moreof fitting me for a custom earpiece. The bad part: As a business, they made me nostalgic for dealing with used car salesmen. I wanted to try out a pair of hearing aids. Every other audiology business I visited offered demo programs -- 30-45 days to try out the hearing aids, no money down. UCSF policy is money up front, return it within 45 days for a refund if you don't like it. No payment plans, no billing. Which in my case meant $7,300 on my credit card before they let me out the door. The custom ear molds were great but the hearing aid itself was kinda wonky; noisy-room mode did the exact opposite of what I wanted. But the thing that cemented my decision to return the hearing aids was doing some research and learning how grossly overpriced they were. Hearing aid dispensers are generally pretty opaque about pricing, but UCSF gives it the full hospital routine. I was shown a grossly inflated price, UCSF magnanimously applied a $5,000 "discount" for not being covered by insurance and I was supposed to think I was getting a great deal. But a little online sleuthing showed I could get the exact same hearing aids for half of what UCSF was charging, with a better service plan and dispensed by a more convenient and friendly (UCSF Audiology front desk staff gives you the full hospital waiting room treatment) local audiologist. With the cost spread out over a year of no-interest payments! I used Zip Hearing, and there are several other similar online services that cut deals with manufacturers and contract with local audiologists for fitting and service. The final (I hope) insult with UCSF is that it's nearly two weeks since I returned the devices and they haven't processed the refund yet. No explanation from them why it takes so long, and I'm now coming up on a second month of $100+ interest charges. Upshot: Do your research before you put any money down on hearing aids, and don't assume a hospital is the best place to go.

Advised Jeffrey of this at first fitting but my concern was dismissed. At second session, the process of replacing the wires was complicated by a massive collection of wires, some tangled together. He struggled but could not provide wires that fit properly. I can see why he dismissed that request when I first made it. But that was not the worst of the experience. When I got home, the hearing aids required repeated pairings which was a long, laborious process ending repeatedly in failure. I could not access the Bluetooth function. Another technician tried to help me by phone, as Jeffrey is available only 3 days per week, so better have your problem Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. The phone tech confirmed, upon my suggestion, that the apps from my two prior Costco hearing aides were still on my computer settings and interfering with the current hearing aid app. I mentioned this to Jeff at first fitting, but he dismissed my concern once again, amazingly reaffirming his doubt at the second fitting despite evidence to the contrary that should have been documented by the Friday tech. These hearing aids were impossibly complicated, having dozens of options, several of which were not easily or intuitively accessible via the app. In addition to the above problems, I believe Jeffrey is not adequately schooled and/or updated in the Apple operating system. I give this company two stars, as they did provide a phone tech when I called on Friday, so I did not have to wait until Jeffrey returned the following week. This unfortunate and very time consuming experience at SF Audiology made me appreciate the services offered by Costco immensely, and I will gladly return to them. They charge far less and their techs are extremely knowledgeable about the Apple system and manually dexterous in making adjustments to the hearing aids.
