I've lived in the College Grove area for almost 30 years. We moved out this way back in 1982 and…read moremy sister and I attended the old College Grove Elementary, which is now the Senior Center. When they rebuild the school just a little way down the road I was worried that it would loose some of the small town charm the old one had but I was mistaken. When my children were old enough they started at the new school and low and behold two of the teachers who taught when I was there, was still teaching. Long story short, College Grove Elementary School receives top marks each year from the state for the level of education they provide our children. It was a real pleasure as my two went all the way through from Pre-K to fifth grade. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a good school, College Grove is an excellent choice.

Sylvan Park is a Padeia Design Center - focusing on the Padeia philosophy that involves the "upbringing" of a child, the approach is more than just instruction, the idea is that the child is receiving an education. You can read more online, but I definitely see activities, school programs, and the style of teaching is geared in this direction with personal attention to each child. We drive 20 miles out of the way, 10 in each direction with traffic just to get her here each day having moved away from the neighborhood and I will continue to because she loves it here and I love her being here.

The school has a great system set in place for communicating with the parents. We get our children's grades emailed to us as their work is completed. There isn't a school on earth that is perfect and Columbia Academy is no exception. But we found it to be a wonderful school with caring teachers that nurtured and supported our children. I don't have any hidden agenda for giving a good review, just our experience as a family. I always felt that they were in a safe environment with a Christian family atmosphere, where sharing your faith and praying openly is the norm. Supporting what we were teaching at home about God and His love for them was PRICELESS. The academics are strong and they were definitely prepared for college. Columbia Academy WILL help your child succeed.

It is one of the most sought out schools in the area, with many parents fighting for homes in this district. They have amazing teachers, and many programs to help young kids grow into the best them they can be. I will never forget the etiquette class I took in 3rd grade. Performance aside, this is a school that should be an example of how well schools can work when faculty, parents, and community collaborate to reach a common goal of giving our children a well rounded education. All the props though really belong to the faculty here, they are tireless in their dedication and every one of them approachable and eager to work with you. Curriculum is built around language and reading. Children visit the Libra each day to check out books. They will also be receiving 30 minutes of Spanish instruction each day and will be amazingly fluent within their 5 year tenure at the school. Beyond that, the vibe is everything you hope and expect to find in East Nashville; friendly, open, diverse. Heck, you know your at a school in East Nashville when there is a hemp tattoo booth at your spring storytelling fundraiser!
