Dr. Ember Carianna is a rare find. I was introduced to her by a family member who sought…read moreacupuncture treatments after a severe car accident that damaged her neck. She saw great improvement after seeing Dr. Carianna, so I decided to make an appointment for a different unresolved issue no specialist or Doctor seemed to be able to help me with. Dr. Carianna has the best bedside manner I have ever experienced and I have seen countless of Doctors. She cares about her patients and she gives a little of herself in each consult. When I met her for our first consultation, I knew she was a kind-hearted, empathetic doctor. She really listened to me, she asked questions, and let me express myself. At times, I was sobbing, and needed a moment to collect myself, and she was very patient, understanding, and made me feel that she truly cared and wanted to help me. She never rushed during an appointment with me, and she always wanted to know how I was doing. She asked me to give her an update of the good, the bad and the ugly, everything I had experienced after each treatment. Dr. Carianna is very knowledgeable about Chinese herbs, homeopathic remedies and acupuncture. She uses all of this knowledge to help her patients. I love that she is not restricted by one specific avenue. One of the most useful remedies she gave me was a tea. At first I did not believe that a simple cup of tea a few times a day could help me drastically from the painful condition I had been suffering from for almost 2 years. After all, I had seen specialists and other conventional doctors who had no idea what was wrong with me, and claimed that they needed to do more invasive tests to put a name on my ailment. All of them claimed I would most likely never heal. Even though initially I wasn't sold that a tea would work, I went ahead and drank the tea, and continued the bi-weekly acupuncture and homeopathic drops she recommended. I was amazed at how much I improved within a few weeks. I will be forever grateful to all Dr. Carianna did for me.

So, my insurance covers acupuncture. I had already met my deductible, which meant I was only…read moreresponsible for 5% of each session's cost until I hit my out-of-pocket max. Balance Point initially quoted me one rate, but they ended up billing my insurance at a higher rate. That not only increased the total charge to my insurance but also raised my 5% share. While the amount I paid per session wasn't huge, it added up--and more importantly, they were knowingly overbilling my insurance and collecting more from me than they should have. Maybe they assumed I wouldn't look into the claims details on my insurance provider's website--but I did. After reviewing months of charges, it was clear they'd been overcharging me the entire time. When I called them to ask what was going on, the doctor refunded everything I'd paid out-of-pocket, going all the way back to my first visit. It felt more like a move to avoid a bad review than a genuine apology. But here I am anyway. To be clear--acupuncture itself is fantastic. The treatment helped me. But what's not okay is the dishonesty. There's no way they didn't know they were overcharging me.

There aren't any excruciating pains either. It is actually quite relaxing.
