Guy there calls himself a "Rabbi", but has not graduated from rabbinical studies and makes frequent errors doctirnal errors. He doesn't know -or care enough to find out about-traditions and rules for ceremony. He makes derogatory remarks about the group there, as a whole, and frequently zeros in on individuals and "bullies" them. During prayer meeting, he plays with his phone, flips through his notebook--remains disconnected. Don't waste your time or money. He doesn't want you there, anyway. read more

I personally found the group of people there to be angry and arrogant. It was so much so that I had to ask the Rabbi why he puts up with them?! Seriously, I wanted to slap some of those people! They weren't very nice or warm. A lot of them had attitudes. Don't expect love or patience from this congregation. The Rabbi is cool though. read more

Husband and I wanted so badly to attend Beth Messiah and be part of the "family" but it just wasn't to be. Talk about snotty people, whew! This place was a giant nightmare and we'll never go back. I had just had surgery and was wearing clothing a little baggy, but everything I had on was brand new and I explained myself to several people, but several folks had no problem in putting me down loudly and asking Rabbi to tell me to leave because of my clothing. Husband was dressed very well and I thought my new clothing was very nice, but guess I didn't fit in? What about the SOUL, what about the love of G-d for mankind? Beth Messiah has been in Tidewater for 42 years. For the past 21 years, they have resided on Granby Street in Norfolk, across from Granby high school. My family have been integral members for over four years and we've found a loving and caring faith community family here. Members are welcoming and the leadership is approachable and caring. Shabbat services are musical and uplifting and the teaching is Biblical, sound and informative. We've enjoyed holy day events, lifecycle events such as bar mitzvahs and weddings, retreats, meals and other events for the whole family. I can't speak to the experiences in the negative reviews found here and I honestly suspect that at least one of them is referring to another place of worship. read more

I have been at Beth Messiah for a long time (years and years!), and I cannot imagine being anywhere else. The truth of the Bible is taught, worship is wonderful. We have services on Saturday, but that's not all! Saturdays begin with Torah study and the Shabbat service follows. After that, there is time for fellowship. We have a prayer group on Tuesday nights, Bible study on Wednesdays, and we celebrate the Biblical holidays. I have made many friends here. The review that mentioned judgments concerning clothing--that simply can't be our Beth Messiah. I wear jeans every week, and no one has ever commented negatively on my clothing. People come dressed in what they are comfortable in, and they are welcome that way. It's not whether we wear dresses and suits or jeans. What matters is being a congregation that worships Yeshua and loves and encourages one another. You are welcome to come and see if this is the place for you.
