They wanted to bury my father in the wrong place so my mother refused to get out of the limousine. When we went to the office to discuss the situation they said that it was a mistake but we had to pay another $1500 for them to dig in the correct spot and postpone the burial until the next day! I went to visit my family and was horrified to see workers hanging out in the afternoon leaning on tombstones, standing on graves and keeping their bags on top of tombstones. Trash strewn around. The photos speak for themselves. What is wrong with these people? We went to the office and they told us they were aware and there was nothing they could do. Seriously? How about firing these low lives, hiring competent and compassionate people and perhaps train them on cemetery etiquette? read more

The only thing that stand out in the cemetery is its old trees that seem like they're guarding our loved ones. The service just to plant grass is slow and pretty expensive. You'd think that for the charge to be buried on a tiny plot such a simple service should be included.... like in other smaller cemeteries. Aside from that, negligence for update is in the air. The list is long - no email (!!!), the only way to pay for any service is mailing a check (seriously? XXI century???), the bathrooms are in a pitiful conditions and haven't been updated for years. The Sunday we visited was a rainy day, and hardly anyone was there, but the bathrooms weren't clean, the toilet seats - wobbly, and hand driers - antique. Time for a serious update! And no, I would not recommend the cemetery. (Our parents picked it with their friends while they were still in good health.) read more

It appalling and disgraceful (according to the reviews) that all of us having paid perpetual care for our deceased family members have to now replace the yews for an exorbitant amount of money claiming the money has since run out. When we had recently replaced the yews, they looked like they were dying. Went to the office to complain, twice, they said I needed to give the yew time to fill in. The woman who was being helped a few feet away by a NICE WOMAN told me later that she too has found him to be rude whenever she has had to deal with him. Visited for the first time in a while. When my kids were little, I took them there for their first Hebrew lessons, to read the names of the people each was named after from the stones. Each grave about 20 years old at the time, Those names on the matzevot are no longer readable by visitors, just the family names appearing from the overgrown yews which obscure the individual names. We had to manually move the branches to read the monuments. And that's with a perpetual care investment. read more

Amazing that this awful place sent a note responding to my review. I just found it and have to say my opinion hadn't changed much. I had the unfortunate experience of having to buy my daughter two years ago. She wanted to be buried by her grandmother so I had no choice but to go back here and even more so to purchase a plot for myself to be next to my daughter when the time comes. I've added a star because the manager is very nice and accommodating. Unfortunately perpetual care or any care is terrible. I purposely choose to care for my daughter's grave on my own; however, it is directly behind our family plot where several of the Graves have perpetual care. My parents' graves are supposed to have grass; nothing but weeds and always overgrown. Because we care for my daughter's plot ourselves we are there at least once a month and unless I go to the office and complain the 'grass' on my parents' please would be past our knees. To tell me that perpetual care is dictated by the extent of their income is absurd. They have the income to more the other areas of grass but not perpetual care? Further, their workers are disrespectful, placing equipment, clothing and lunch bags on tombstones. Here was their response to my first review: "You probably are not aware of how perpetual care works. This is a common problem. The cemetery maintains the graves to the extent of the income. That is what NY State law requires." Really? No talk of common decency or respect for the deceased. read more

I had lost both of my parents within 7.5 months of each other and they had plots in this cemetery. I had a great experience during both of these sad occasions . They were very clear with instructions and what they needed for the burial as I was coming out of state and had to make all arrangements via phone. Jeff from the office was great as he double checked that all the information is correct and that I have all the documents needed- so no glitches. He people at the office were super efficient - no waiting time and the staff was professional all around. Since I was out of town- did. It know where to turn for monuments - they have Sprung monuments right across the street - great service, but overpriced perhaps because of convenience. Did some research and found David Stone Decor, a monument business in Brooklyn- great selection , wonderful service and great prices . Not cheap, but much less than many others without compromising quality and service. Did not get the monument yet- so will review them later- it takes about 3-4 months with foundation work to actually complete the process. Hope this info helps others as I certainly was at loss when I started the process being out of state . read more

I am appalled about the care of the ground and plants /bush on My grandparent graves ! The perpetual care was paid for life-of both of my grandparents by my mom .. today the greens are in bad shape and unhealthy looking and don't grow. I requested the Cemetery's office to look into it ! Just got a letter starting that each grave needs replacing all greens !!! And the additional cost will be 5.500 for each grave . Totaling over $1O k for both . That made me furious! As it's not fare since mom paid already for planing and forever care for her parents . Now mom is gone and she didn't want to burden us kids with the more invested monetary obligations. So what do you do ? Any suggestions please welcome !!! read more

For decades, the cemetery has allowed garbage from the street to enter through the fence on Elmont Road without coming up with a solution that is respectful to the deceased and their families. NO OTHER cemetery gets away with this. Imagine coming to visit your loved one's grave, only to have to clean off McDonald's wrappers, beer bottles, used face masks, and general litter! There is a solution! Create a better barrier or clean daily. It's more than disrespectful. read more

This cemetery used to be fairly clean and maintained. When we visited today, we were appalled by the garbage throughout the whole premises. Landscapers littered the whole place with their bobbins, strings for the weed whackers, their lunches, drinks and never bothered to clean up after themselves or discarded their trash in the receptacles. It is disrespectful if not irreverent behavior for a cemetery. Worst part is when we complained to the office, they said that the landscapers did not have time to clean up after themselves and that they would return on Monday to clean up! Would you accept this if this was your lawn service at home? Moreover, would these landscapers like it if they saw the same in their mothers' graveyard, right next to the grave. There was even horse manure! I have no idea where that came from. This is outrageous and unacceptable! Please do something about it! read more

My paternal grandparents, great-grandparents and great (great-great) uncles are buried here. It can be tricky to navigate, but the PC (Perpetual Care) option ensures that the gravesites are well maintained throughout the (many) long years and seasons. Sadly, there is no room left in ouur family's area so being buried here is out of the question. read more

Was just here for the first time in many years. I have many family members buried here including my father and his parents. This was the first time i brought my daughter though she's still too young to understand. It can be a tough place to make your way around though my family is easy to find only being thirty seconds from the main entrance. read more

My review is only related to my visit today. I have been fine about previous visits. It was Father's Day today and I went to see my father's grave and my maternal grandfather's grave and my other relatives all of my relatives graves today and I pay a lot of money out of pocket to make sure that my parents gravesite is well maintained and I got there horrified to find weeds growing throughout the gravesite it was not maintained at all for a very long time the weeds were so overgrown and there was no way it was maintained for many months certainly well before the COVID-19 happened. In addition to that my grandparents have perpetual care and their site was completely overrun and the Ivy was filled in in the engraving of their names! Their grave site was completely covered with weeds and Ivy it had not been trimmed or cleaned last spring it had not been trimmed or cleaned in the fall there had not been any maintenance of it. And my mother had spent a fortune to make sure it had perpetual care and I was thinking about getting perpetual care for my parents gravesite but I couldn't see how that was affordable now I am very angry and I called their office and they said well because of COVID-19 the men couldn't work couldn't stop working till last week. That's not true because All of the people who work on lawn care and tree care out here and East Meadow have been working for months already first it was with masks and then without mask because they're working outside and they're not interacting with anybody. Their excuse was that they weren't allowed to work until last week. I don't believe that the grounds people other than perhaps those who do the burial's which I find hard to believe that they would stop Aerials but they weren't allowed to maintain the property that they're paid to maintain and no notice was sent out to people who were responsible for having paid for the service and no credit was provided? This to me is wrong. I pulled the weeds they were plenty more I pulled them not knowing if I was pulling poison ivy or not and so many of them and so long it had been growing for such a long time there is no excuse for it as I said and I tore Ivy out of engravings. How stupid can they be to think that it's OK and that people won't come and see their relatives on the holidays? There's nothing cemetery has been an excellent one over the years I have no complaints about their service and every any other area it is just the lawn care landscaping maintenance that is the problem. read more

visiting here for many years and always thought it was well kept until reading some of the yelp reviews here. It's like reading the restaurant reviews on yelp, some people love it and give five stars and others go to the same restaurant, have the same food and give zero or one star and write a hate letter.. Beth David, to me, is always clean and well maintained for such a large area and saw on my last visit they were repaving some of the small narrow roads. i visit four graves all in the same location, all way in the back. Two have perpetual care and i have a pair of small clippers in my car, taking care of any weeds, etc... in my garden at home after weeding, we can get rain and weeds are up and growing the next day, so i can understand if i see a few weeds coming up here. Besides the regular groundskeepers, i see at times, early morning, two large open body trucks, racks in the back with seats, coming in, each with ten or twelve, day workers with rakes, nothing is easy here. and last, the folks in the office have always been nice to me with my questions and concerns., thank you for reading this far. stephen read more

I RECENTLY had a family member's parent be buried here. We experienced a wait when we arrived here with the family and the body of the recently passed. they were terrible with making us and the person who needed to be buried wait and until they recieved the check they wouldn't let us bury this person even thou there was already a head stone hence the other spose is buried next to her's. anyway it was cute and to the point with the memorial service however the ride to and from was crazy for one being the driver had been speeding and a couple times almost got in a accident and i agree these roads in the cementary are not made for big cars or small cars and its embarassing with the stickers regarding pc and yellow ones and looks unkept some areas too.... read more

When I visited, I saw his footstone tilted. to an ugly angleThe surrounding ground was full of leaves and just plain dirt . I was told that it would cost me $77 to have the foot stone inserted correctly Huh? this is after 2 yearsI I requested that brown shrubs be removed, It was done, but leaves and wires were still there,My mother's footstone was also lopsided and there were weeds.. Both were on PERPETUAL CARE. The family plot looks like a dump. read more

Everything about our experience with Beth David was terrible. They delayed the funeral multiple times throughout the day, making a hard day even harder. The funeral was scheduled for 11 am, and it was 330 pm by the time we buried our loved one. The traffic jam that happens outside their offices is a shame, and it burdens those who are grieving. No one at the cemetery offered us sufficient answers for our questions throughout the day. Incredibly disappointed in the service. read more

Perhaps back in the 1950s when my folks bought their side by side plots, BD was a reputable cemetery; they are in the Workman's Circle section. However, the last time I visited their plots, the place was a wreck - the Grey Gardens of cemeteries. After that I paid for "perpetual care" but to be honest, I'm afraid to go back to see the conditions as I can only imagine how much worse (if that's possible) things have gotten, i.e. basically ignored and looking like an abandoned property. I visited Beth David Cemetery today, to see the resting place of my grandparents. Their stones were well kept and looked like they had been put in place a year ago, not in the 60s and 70s. The grass was mowed, the trees were healthy, a gentle summer breeze was blowing. It was heartwarming to see the many Jewish family names on the grave stones and the pebbles placed atop them in remembrance. This is a wonderful, traditional place. read more

My father died ten years ago and was buried in this cemetery. I paid for perpetual care but every time my brother and I visit the grave, the shrubbery looks horrendous. I complain, they say they will fix it, but honestly, it's an endless cycle of complaints with minimal effort on their part to do anything. They know we are not going anywhere. My husband's grandparents were buried there since the 70s and his parents and him have the same complaint. Needless to say, my husband and I are making alternative arrangements when we pass on. Beware of popular holidays like Father's Day or Sundays. The lines are terribly long, so you will need to tack on a couple of more hours, especially if there is a funeral. The lanes are so narrow that the only way to get to a grave is by parking in the middle of the lane and blocking traffic. I usually try to go on a Tuesday or late Friday, an hour before closing time. I gave them two stars and not one because the grave was ready when my father was buried. His tombstone was ready too when the unveiling came. We also needed a grave within 24 hours and they were ready to accommodate. And they have clean toilets for the living. If you have a choice, go somewhere else. read more

My paternal grandparents and my uncle are buried here. My poor grandmother, who I did not even like, never had a days peace with this cemetery and their failure to maintain my uncle's grave. She paid and paid. My parents used to go to the grave, and later graves, and took care of this by themselves. But their final insult was yet to come. Although bought as a 3 grave plot, they wanted my grandfather (3rd interment) to be buried in a child's casket, stating there was no room. Of course this was in the heyday of Jewish burials in the 50's and 60's when mobs visited before the High Holy Days. I went back a few years ago and still could find the graves without a map. I went all the way to New York got sick as a dog walking around for 2 hours trying to find my fathers grave never found it. It is a humongous cemertery and got no help from the office employee who showed on my map but wouldn't take me to it. He was the only one working there that day. So solve that by having more help on weekends. I just can't pop by any time i feel like it. I was beyond pissed and especially went to New York to see the grave. Loosen the purae strings and pay for more people to work weekends. You owe hundreds and hundreds of dollars for going up there for nothing. read more

Old school Jewish cemetery, established long before the nearby Idlewild/JFK was ever contemplated. Now deceased Jews rest as peacefully as they can beneath the roar of jets approaching the active runways, under headstones marked with rocks and pebbles placed by visiting survivors. The graves are chock-a-block, marked with sad looking yews cut viciously back, with crab grass and night shade vines teeming around them. The office is a decrepit afterthought of a building with stained rungs and bathrooms located outside in the cellar. Graves that are to receive perpetual care are unceremoniously marked with large blue stickers with PC emblazoned on them. More appropriate for the dollar store than a cemetery. The care itself shows no care whatsoever. Weeds abound on "PC" and non pc graves alike. My relatives headstones have sunk into the ground leaving their inscriptions partially buried. Sad place, sad to visit, even sadder to say goodbye to someone you love. Thousands of good souls, and, I daresay, a few rotten ones rest here. It is sacred ground and the final resting place of my grandma, grandpa, uncle, aunt and in-laws. Rest in peace good souls. Thank G-d you can't hear the planes. read more

This cemetery is very disorganized and inefficient in the way it handles things. I was here Sunday for an unveiling, and we were stuck in a traffic jam outside the main offices for over an hour and a half. They had at least 4 funerals going at the same time, and it was a traffic jam that resembled a parking lot. Very disturbing and upsetting for those who are grieving. They didn't even have the monument covered for us. They handed us a piece of rolled up gauze mesh with a cotton string that didn't hold up in the strong winds. Nonetheless, we made the ceremony work, but they really needed to have the stone covered before we got there. read more

This cemetery is outdated and poorly kept. It was not built for modern cars. The one way streets are extremely narrow and are invariably blocked by a car or truck which is parked by the curb, forcing one to detour around and hope that the next (often one way street) will not be blocked. The graves are neglected, and I found my grandmother's grave covered in poison ivy. read more

I can imagine how difficult it is to work in a cemetery given that people who call and visit are typically dealing with deceased friends or family. This makes it more important to treat people courteously. To tell a caller that he should know that a Jewish cemetery can not be accessed on Saturday was very offensive. It was very insensitive to the religious beliefs of the caller who may be unfamiliar with Jewish prohibitions. The person who answered the phone needs to be sensitized to the diversity of people who may call. read more

Our family has had decades of experience with this cemetery. They have not honored the perpetual care we paid for several graves. My brother's grave in particular has been neglected from the beginning. Despite many requests since 1995 to maintain enough soil for the plants, they have ignored the grave, and now it is in complete disrepair. Their suggestion is that I now pay 4 times the original endowment to restore the gravesite. I will not, nor will I pay for future perpetual care for other graves, because they cannot be trusted to perform proper perpetual care. read more

I was most surprised at his answer when i thanked him. He said there was no need to thank him as he too was Jewish and it was his mitzvah too.
