If you need to stay in Starke, FL, the Best Western is probably your best option for a hotel. It's a bit run down but I was working, so my goal was to sleep overnight, get my work done, and leave. The room was okay. Not great, not bad. Standard. The bed was a bit hard for me and hurt my back. It was clean. It did have a full length mirror which was nice. The wifi was fine and I didn't have any issues. The heating and cooling is one of the old units near the window. It cooled the room. I'm not sure how it would be in the severe heat of the summer, but it worked for spring weather. I really dislike these type of old units because they are incredibly loud! There is a decent size refrigerator in the room (larger than I've seen many places) and a small, regular coffee maker. The COFFEE MAKER is LOCATED in the BATHROOM which I found really odd and it wasn't appealing to me. I'd consider this unsanitary. I didn't use it. It's more of a motel with all the doors outside. If you don't request to be on the bottom floor, you walk up stairs with your luggage. Maybe there were elevators somewhere I didn't see. If you have a lot of luggage, disabilities, or don't want to walk up and down outside stairs to get to your room, you should request the bottom floor. It was slow when I was there, so it wasn't a problem getting a room on the bottom floor. I didn't have time to eat their breakfast, so I can't comment on it other than to say I saw the breakfast area. It was a small seating area in the lobby. For some reason they wouldn't honor the GSA rate for the area. They insisted on charging a bit more which I'll need to pay out of my pocket since my business travel must fall under those approvals. I'd have stayed somewhere else for that reason, but there's hardly any options in Starke, FL. Maybe that's why they can charge the higher rate and people pay the extra. If you need a decent place to stay and you have to stay in Starke (pass if you can), then the Best Western is a decent place. read more

I'm pretty sure the night desk employee was on some kind of drugs. The room was not clean. There was yellow gunk between the toilet bowl and the tank. We were there for four nights and never had our room cleaned. We had to go to the desk for fresh towels. The air conditioner was extremely loud. We stayed here as a last resort. I gave it 2 stars because the front desk receptionist were friendly. This will be my first and last night staying at this hotel. On the internet this was the best looking hotel in Starke, FL. I came here for work and my room had a cockroach infestation and if my room had it then all the rooms have it. The carpet smelled like mildew, no matter how many times it was vacuumed or sprayed. You can still smell it. The carpet needs a deep cleaning. Also the price was steep, especially for a place like that. $159 a night is ridiculous and that's not including tax. They gave me a 10% discount after I told them about the roaches but it is still steep. The cockroaches also had little baby ones but I didn't take any pics of those. read more

It's alright, but it depends on price. Dangerous flash flooding, high winds & a torrential downpour drove me off the road, so I had little choice... it was do a U-Turn & stay here or drive on another 20+ min barely being able to see the road. The bad is I landed the weekend of some sort of local competitions (Gator Games & Motorcross, or something similar), so my room was $325 with AAA discount for 1 night. I debated getting back on the road, but it had become a canal & after driving 10-hrs, I bit the bullet & stayed. Pros: * Staff is lovely. The young lady with reddish curly hair at the front desk is a joy... very pleasant & professional. * Bed is comfortable, lots of premium TV channels (what else are ya gonna do during flooding, although connectivity was out a good number of times with the storm), mini-fridge & m/w. * Coffee & hot water in the lobby 24/7. It's a nice touch & as an espresso snob, the medium brew (they don't offer bold) wasn't bad. * Morning b'kfast was standard fare for most hotels... scrambled eggs, sausage links & unfortunately, slim pickin's on carbs (cereal, bagels & English muffins were all gone)... again, with a full house of families with many kids, by 8:30am, when I arrived, I think most of it was gone. Still, it saved me $7 at McD's. For the cost, I wanted eggs benedict & a nice steak or tea delivered to my door. Good to know: * Hot water but the shower head was a bit light on power (could have been due to a full house that weekend), shampoo/cond/body wash dispensers on the wall, but they're hard to use... you have to push with all your strength towards the shower wall. To be fair, I'm recovering from a broken shoulder/arm & still in a sling, so that might have been half the issue. Cons: * Well, cost. No hotel is worth $300+/nt, imho. * 4, well used pillows didn't offer much in the way of support while sitting in bed, working on the computer. * Very dated for the room fees, but welcome to FL. 3* & that's with a +1* for the nice staff. it's too old & dated to justify more... carpeting isn't very clean. I have been staying at the Best Western in Starke, FL on Hwy 301 for many years to visit a local relative. I cannot say enough good things about this facility. The impeccable service is always appreciated, which is no surprise since it is a family owned and operated BW. This family totally committed three generations of management, going back 46 years, to provide consistent service. My reason for writing this review now is that this BW is completing an impressive renovation of the entire facility. This weekend I stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and was blown away by the quality, style, and updates. I've stayed in Best Westerns for years all over the country and cannot remember any other BW being any better than the BW in Starke. read more

They should make their rooms look as modern and clean and refreshing as their lobby! I walked in the room and it smelled like dirty carpet it was so hot I turned on the air for the room to get cold and it never got cold. My family and I could not even enjoy it and take a nap because it was so dang hot. I called the front office made them aware of the problem and the guy just said give it a few if not I'll be up to check it out. 3 hours later I notified them again about the issue and he then said he was doing the best he could and did absolutely nothing. I could not sleep all night due to that damn piece of crap air unit they have there. I would never stay here again! The restroom was also hot as hell! Didn't see how bad it was til we were inside and settled in. That's when we looked at the door and saw the most obvious damage. Then went into the bathroom are and saw that damage. You cannot see any of it from the doorway. The a/c was loud and smelled musty. The peeling wall may have had mold, especially in the bathroom. read more

'Ello chaps! Not many options in the City of Starke but Best Western is pretty much your best - and only option. Service at check in is good, although the overall cleanliness and feel of the property seems to be that of a typical Best Western. Not the cleanest of places, but not sketchy dirty either. Motel is due a remodel; however, well maintained and clean. I would have taken off a star but the gentleman at check in and out was excellent. We got down for breakfast 30-40 minutes before the breakfast ended. Most things, eggs, sausage and gravy were cold and they did not bring out any bacon the second day within the last 40 min of service. Upon check out when asked how things were I stated that breakfast was lacking. The lady who does the breakfast came out and wanted to "debate" the issue, stating that we came at the last minute. My comment was if you advertise you close at 9 then I would expect you are open until 9. Gentleman on check apologized and I let feeling ok with the stay. As we started up our vehicle out comes the checkout man with a bag of fruit, water and granola.. above and beyond and sensitive to the issue. I would give the stay an average of 3 stars, but the man who checked us out went beyond what was expected. read more

The Management (Tim) (Edit 1 - the prick's name is Todd) at this location is amazingly pompous, unprofessional, and rude! Surprised he still has a job with his lack of customer service. We are from out of state. My wife's car broke down nearby and was sitting on their exterior bench trying to figure out how to have her car towed, secure a room at this hotel, and was extremely vulnerable and scared. This a**hole comes out and kicks her off the property for loitering. He put my wife's life at risk by doing so. There is a lot of drug activity and dangerous people throughout this town. She didn't feel safe yet he kicked her to the curb to walk to another hotel. I calmly called him personally and he would not discuss any details. He would not give me his full name. He would not tell me his supervisors info. He cut me off multiple times while I asked why he would do such a thing and eventually hung up on me. I never cussed or raised my voice with him. Best Western needs to get this ass clown under control before he ruins this location's business. DO NOT STAY HERE! THEY ARE HORRIBLE AND RUDE!!! PLACE IS DIRTY AS WELL. The room was fairly clean but did find parts of the room that were not vacuumed very well. That really doesn't bother me too much. The biggest issue I had was that the tv on the mount was crooked. I tried to fix it but it's obviously damaged. I'll stay again but I expected more from Best Western. I've always thoroughly enjoyed my stay at other locations. read more

Great experience here. Seemed to be the best hotel option in Starke, and we weren't disappointed. All staff that we encountered were VERY nice, professional, and welcoming (which is saying something as we are backpacking a trail through the area and didn't exactly come off as...presentable). Room was clean. Shower was hot with great water pressure. The included full hot breakfast was excellent (shout out to Beverly for her hard work and friendly demeanor). I have been staying here for over 10 years. I booked a two night stay and requested a handicap room over a month ago. When I arrived there was not one available. I got a ground floor room near the front. I almost fell in the bathroom trying to get into the bath tub. When checking out, the clerk was to busy to take my complaint. read more

Clean room! Was freezing cold when we walked in (love that). I think it was remodeled recently, the rooms look great and did I say it's CLEAN!!? The other hotels in Starke aren't too clean. I will definitely stay at this hotel every time I come to Starke. The front desk woman Terri who help us was so pleasant and informative. A+. read more

All I can say is wow. Not a good wow mind you. A really crappy bad wow. Our ac cut off at 130 Am and had to be moved to another room. When asked if they could do anything about compensating us for having to move Maria (the manager) said yes and that she would put it in to the log that we needed a refund. When I called back several days later she very rudely said no to the refund because now they have to clean two rooms for us and lied saying she wasn't the manager so she couldn't do anything in terms of compensating. Then she lied about calling the general manager and then lied about when she worked. Also rooms smelled weird and there was hair everywhere in the first room. The second room was a handicapped room and was a little cleaner but anyway that was my rant. Wow. read more
