After escaping from "The Crush" (L.A./Orange Co.) a little over a year and a half ago, I have been…read morevery diligent in seeking out as many places that carry local produce and other foods as I can...and I have found many. Among these places are packing houses, fruit stands and farmer's markets. I have discovered that there is a Farmer's Market almost every day of the week, at several locations throughout the Central Coast...even on Sundays. I have been to almost all of them, from Cambria to Nipomo to Paso Robles, and I have even 'suffered' the Orange County-like atmosphere of the Old Town SLO Farmer's Market. That being said, my question is, has everyone forgotten the Nipomo Farmer's Market? Including the farmers? In spite of a very prime location that is easily accessable by car, foot, bike or horsecart, with plenty of free parking very near, and easily gotten to, the Nipomo Farmers Market is, in the very heart of Trilogy is, to be kind, just pitiful...thats all, just... On a good day, during the warmer months, there may be as many as 6 vendors, and, like today, as few as 2 or 3. In spite of its very sweet location very near to Black Lake and other very good neighborhoods, there seems to be few things lacking, i.e. customers, vendors, variety, to name a few. I see a few of the local Trilogians there, but generally its a ghost town, or rather ghost market. I find myself driving past it on my regular Sunday run to the Garcia Bros. packing house in Oceano, and/or the Hayashi Bros. stand in Arroyo Grande, because its not even worth my while, or gas, to stop at the Nipomo 'farmer's Market'. I don't know, but I suspect that there MUST be some sort of association of local growers that kinda oversees the farmers markets. I wonder if they know? I wonder if anything can be done to infuse this particular location with more vendors and variety, and then add some advertising. That would make the Nipomo location a REAL fun place, indeed!!

You just park in the dirt so it's free to park! We were passing by and wanted to pick up some fresh strawberries. They were the best strawberries that I've had this summer season! I also saw that they had cherries but they were ripe and ready and I didn't know if we would eat them in time. We also enjoyed a bag of kettle corn for the road.

Grabbed a bunch of veggies to cook for dinner and makings for salad. Made sure to get fresh strawberries and cherries to eat while enjoying my day at the beach. Couldn't resist picking up some of their house made dressings and hot sauces. This is a place I could stock up on condiments and use for myself and fun gifts. I will be making this a regular stop when I come to the area. Service was friendly... They managed to upsell me from one basket of berries and cherries to three baskets of each; I'm the only one that will eat so I'm indulging. Glad they didn't see me checking out the other blackberries or I'd probably walked out with even more stuff. Seriously though, DON'T pass this place up! Nice little gem in the middle of the farmland.

Out in the "sticks" in the countryside of the Arroyo Grande & Edna Valley area, one can find…read moreseveral little farm stands on the back roads. This is one of several, and this one focuses on local AG produce, that is grown by the Bautista Family in Arroyo Grande itself. One cannot get more local, nor fresher than the produce here. The Bautista's grow a few dozen types of vegetables and they are invariably fresh and delicious. No matter who helps you, they are all super nice, friendly, and helpful. The Bautista's are really hard working locals who go to several of SLO county Farmers Markets, such as the one's in AG, Madonna/ SLO, and other cities/towns. It is nice to also have a Farm stand option for the hours that they are not at a FM. In all cases, the offering is fresh, right from the farm. It is fun diversion from the typical Farmers Market dynamic, which while nice, is rather urban. This is also a nice excuse to take a drive more out to see the countryside. This road then continues on to either Lopez Lake, or even to the more remote little village of Huasna. The road also later intersects with Orcutt Road, which then takes one to a whole slew of nice Vineyards [i.e. Wolff & Chamisal], and then back to SLO-town itself via the "secret" scenic back-way. Regardless of Farmers Market, Farm Stand, or other ways to get local produce, in general, it is often better than what one gets in many supermarkets. Places like this are a part of what makes living in the Pismo Beach area so fantastic. While tourists think that staying here [or even living here] could be all about the beach, or the wine... living here is actually far more appealing than just the typical tourist attractions. Of course, it takes several years of exploring to really get a good feel of this amazing area of CA. In any case, it is wonderful to have the Bautista Family working so hard to provide the locals, and a few lucky tourists who happen to drive by, with some fresh locally grow produce. Thanks!

In our favor was the late time we were headed in at 2ish. No line in to the parking area, four dollars cash was easy enough. I headed to an area closest figuring the early folks had already left...ta da. There was a great spot under a tree. No charge to walk in, great! So we strolled up one isle and down the other so we cover the entire ground. Initially I was not impressed, my first thought was that a ship from China dropped a couple of containers and that was the show. There were quite a few duplicate vendors a few too many. I was hoping for the days gone by when sellers brought everything in their garage, that wasn't the case here. I did find a couple of garage re-resellers but I rent so I don't need the gardening stuff. We bought some waters and had a seat at one of the vendors fold up table, the tables and chairs were filthy dirty as was the case for nearly every food vendor with tables and chairs set up. I thought to myself you could sell alot of cleaner doing a demo show of cleaning 'em. I picked up some fruit and some kitchen tool items but other than that it was a nice walk about. Folks were friendly the weather was perfect, a good adventure. Thanks Foodguy-Martin

They have good vegetable and fruit produce for sale and fun food options (my husband loved the BBQ ribs). It was $25 for a combo plate but they gave him a lot of food. We bought some large avocados, 3 for $5. We also bought some mini bananas, apricots, and fried pork rinds. I found some cute Hello Kitty items to use as gifts and some glittery heart shaped earrings for $5. This swap meet has vendors selling retail items originating from China or Mexico. Items such as clothing, jewelry, toys, and toiletries. There are also second hand vendors selling used household items and tools. There are not vendors selling handmade crafts like at a farmers market. It costs $4 to park and it was a zoo trying to find a spot. We lucked out and found a space in the handicapped parking. It was a fun thing to do on a Sunday in July 2025
